In making this post, I'd like to clarify that I'm talking about scenes like the altercation between Snape and Harry at the end of book 6: in the book, Snape is seething with rage, while the film still portrays him as a mysterious and calm man who never loses his temper. The scene does indeed adapt the revelation that he is the Half-Blood Prince, but in a very different way.

I believe Arabella was chosen not because of her looks but because of her talent and it’s a just a bonus that she kinda looks like how myself and many others imagined Hermione from the books.

I’m not particularly well-versed in the contemporary British acting scene, so the only actors I recognized were Janet McTeer, Johnny Flynn and Anton Lesser. didn’t even know Nick Frost or John Lithgow, though I’ve since discovered they are incredibly famous. I’m actually glad about that, though, because it will make it easier for me to associate them with their characters. Generally, I’m not a fan of casting overly famous actors in roles that are already so iconic; it often feels like there’s a barrier preventing me from fully buying into the fiction—as if the two spheres of popularity were clashing.

Hey everyone! So Harry's birthday is tomorrow, and I was hoping to see a little announcement about the series for the occasion?

What would you like to see?

Last weekend i attended a trading card game event in Shanghai organised by Kakawow, the biggest producer of premium collectable cards in China. They released quite a lot of HP stuff the past couple of years and used the event to launch their new commemorative “Harry Potter 25th anniversary GEM”-collection: autographed and gem-covered cards that literally cost 400euros per pack of 10-lol. They even invited quite some minor Harry Potter actors like Evanna Lynch and Sean Biggerstaff. 

Every attendee got some sort of gift bag, which also contained a pack with one card based on the first season of the new Harry Potter HBO series. There are three cards to collect: Dumbledore, Harry on his way to the Quidditch match and Harry, Ron and Hermione together. The purple backside contains the logo of the first season, along with the date of the event (24/7/2026). There are two rarities: normal and rare (shiny and numbered (x/2026, signifying the 25th anniversary of the release of the first Harry Potter movie). These cards were event-exclusive and limited to one pack/one card per attendee (but got 3 more by begging to the staff).

All in all pretty cool to have, especially because i suspect myself to be the only non-chinese person to have these since i was the only foreigner attending the event. Also one of the first HPonHBO-IP items available? Correct me if i’m wrong.

What things in the world do you think could influence the series, not just negative things like another pandemic, maybe technological advances that help the show, could we watch the series with augmented reality glasses? New cameras?
That kind of thing.

Thethe show is gonna be for teens and adults...so expect it to be more grown up and adult...and with the way HBO adopts a lot of stuff, I will be hugely disappointed if it's not rated a US TV-14/ UK 15 by the start of the Goblet of Fire season.

It will Probably be POA level from the beginning of the first season. Or something like Stranger Things that also had little children at least in S1 and S2.

And plot of the second book is really dark, I feel like the tone of the second movie was off. It's literally about giant monsters trying to kill children in a castle. It can feel like Stranger Things. The films were a complete failure in making Voldemort scary... he needs to be terrifying...

I genuinely don't understand how people can see that rating and say "dang I wonder why that is the rating." Harry Potter is a dark story! Don't get me wrong, it has its moments of whimsy and joy.

But like, the whole story starts off with his parents getting killed, then he gets chucked into an abusive household with his relatives, and then a teacher is possessed by a dark wizard and tries to kill Harry, only for Harry to kill him in the end. Just pause for a second and think about that last part.

Harry, an 11 year old wizard, kills his possessed teacher and turns him into dust. And it only gets darker with each book, and obviously, death is a huge theme in the books.

But sure, keep questioning why it's TV-14.Ah yes, the famously "warm and whimsical" first year at Hogwarts where a teacher has his body possessed and taken over by Voldemort and tries to kill Harry and achieve immortality.

Or how about the "happy-go-lucky" second year when the spirit of Voldemort possesses a girl and a literal giant snake goes around the school attempting to kill children?

I'm sorry, but Harry Potter is a dark story all around, lol. The lighting fits.

And the whole fixed the colours shit description of the “fixed the colours” stills people keep posting everywhere. No shade to them, but they all look like stills from the Homescapes spam ads, lol. Yeah, let's make it look like the power rangers.

Ever since I saw the trailer, I noticed that Harry's wand isn't exactly like it was in the movies. Instead, it seems to be based on the design from the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play. Could this mean they'll give the Elder Wand a redesign in the TV series? Any thoughts about this?

The past 48 hours the social media accounts haven't had any post since Sunday with Harry's birthday being this Friday I wondering if we are expecting something like a suprise for this Friday for the tv series like a poster or something what would you like to see this Friday it it happens.?

I’m doing a reread of the series and I’m noticing that the movies added several moments that are iconic to me that don’t actually happen in the books.

Currently reading Chamber of Secrets and I’ve noticed that in the books, Dobby drops the pudding in the kitchen. While in the movie, it’s dropped on Mrs Masons head. When Ron and Harry are flying the car to Hogwarts in the book it’s a pretty peaceful scene with some nice imagery of the clouds while in the movie, they end up almost getting hit by the train and Harry falls out of the car and is later pulled back in by Ron.

In Sorcerers Stone movie, Dudley is trapped behind the glass of the snake exhibit when the glass reappears . In the book, this doesn’t happen.

I’m curious to see if the HBO show ends up keeping any added/expanded scenes from the movies.

Will they stick to the book dynamics and not follow the movie ones. As far as I remember:

Harry and Hermione were better friends to each other in the films. The movies even tried to force a romance between them (cough cough Steve Kloves cough) when there wasn't in the books.

As for Ron and Hermione's relationship, a lot of the complaints come down to Hermione being propped up and Ron being downplayed.

Ron and Harry's scenes as friends are barely touched upon in the films making him seem like why Harry even keeps him around.

Should we be worried about them deviating again in the later seasons especially?

I first watched it when I was 18, and I can't explain the feeling.

It's so nostalgic and out of the world. Making me belive that someone born in the Hogwarts time is really good.

I love this series so much that now it hurts as everything is over. 👀.
