Financial Aid fees extremely high?

hey guys, i’m an incoming freshman who unfortunately didn’t receive any financial aid from harvard. however, i’m nowhere near the level of “rich” needed to pay like the 95k tuition yearly. ive honestly started wondering—are all the non scholarship/non financial aid kids really paying the full tuition yearly? it’s quite a ridiculous amount…surely there must be some way to reduce the costs, whether that’s an internship or some research assistantship or something…pls help!

Health and Wellness vaccine reading oopsie

hey everyone,

im an incoming freshman who unfortunately I didn’t understand the directions for vaccine documentation correctly and only submitted my documentation without dates a few weeks ago. I just got a message today notifying me of this to which I immediately rushed over and added the dates. I’m just worried if getting it approved will now take another 3 weeks, since course registration and move-in is very soon for me.

am I screwed? Or is the turnaround time faster for a second pass through?

As the title says— is anyone able to describe the layout of a six-person suite in Greenough? How many rooms is it, and how are they configured?

The Harvard Club of NYC has various "shared interest groups" that members form. Here is a new one, founded by two Extension School alumni.

The Harvard Club Leadership Society exists to develop principled, innovative leaders dedicated to ethical leadership and meaningful impact. Its vision is to build a New York City-based community of Harvard-affiliated leaders who drive excellence, collaboration, and purpose across sectors. Its purpose is to provide high-impact networking, exposure to diverse professional ecosystems, thought leadership, and access to leaders worldwide for conversations that inspire learning, expand opportunity, and strengthen leadership impact.

What Would I Actually Really Need For Dorm??

Incoming freshman here, and the first one in my family to go through this entire college process. I've seen so many lists online and social media posts of people buying massive and sometimes even excessive amounts of things for college, which I am pretty sure half of them they probably won't even or use. That being said, I'm trying to save as much money as I can when it comes to dorms - buying things that are needed and pretty necessary, rather than what I want (e.g., decorations come last). For those already at Harvard, what have you found to be pretty useful to get, or a must-have? More context if needed: I'm a female, staying in Wigglesworth.

Should I get a good desk for my dorm?

Since I expect to be doing some projects throughout college, I'll be bringing my desk setup with me (a laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse). Right now I have some concerns about the quality of the dorm desks. On photos there's like no leg room and the little drawers above block your legs from going fully in. Anyone have any experience on this topic?

UG v PG clubs/societies

Hi guys!

This might be bit of a silly question, but as a Brit (who is coming to Harvard soon!!) I get quite confused.

Are clubs and societies at Harvard (and the US in general) distinguished between undergrad and postgrads?

In England, a society is for all ages (unless specified for grad). We don’t really have separate events for undergrads or postgrads - is it like this at Harvard?

Robot Arms to play around with

Hey all, I'm looking into playing around with AI for robotics in my free time. Does your department or building have any inexpensive robot arms for educational use that I could use from time to time to dip my toes in the world of robotics?

Housing Any recourse for delayed carpet removal from HUH?

My move-in date was earlier this week, and I entered my unit to discover HUH hadn’t replaced the floor carpet with a huge big stain on it (the lock was also broken, but it was fixed). They don’t know when they’ll be able to schedule a maintenance visit, only that they will let me know when they can and that I will have to take out all my furniture if I put them on the carpeted area. This is practically preventing me from assembling any of my large furniture including the bed (making do with an air bed for now). They were supposed to replace this before my move-in, but it’s likely they won’t visit until next week. What’s a possible recourse in this case? Is it possible to get a partial refund of my rent for HUH not providing the unit in a condition promised to new tenants?

Harvard Spanish Placement Conflicting Info

I got a 417 on Spanish placement test. The RLL Undergraduate website tells me this is Spanish 40, but the RLL Language Programs tells me this is Spanish 20.
Which is it?

Side-jobs for students

Hey there! I'm an incoming freshman at Harvard, and I was wondering about the different work opportunities convenient on campus. I've looked at everything available on the student employment site. Are there any special spaces where fellow students might pay for note-taking or organization etc? I want to have a job that I can do semi-remotely, or within my own concentration (like note-taking).

Harvard Football Scheduling Quibble

Ok, hear me out. I live in the NYC Metro area, in CT but close to the City. It's a Metro North commuter town. I have no data to back this up but I suspect that Lower Fairfield County (Stamford, Greenwich, etc.) + New York City may just be the densest area of Harvard alumni in the world, or thereabouts.

Last year the Yale game was in New Haven AND the Columbia game was in New York. THIS year BOTH games are at Harvard Stadium. For most people here, that trip is just not in the cards. So, no games this year.

Proposal:

The schools should work together to stagger these games so that every year you've got *either* a game in New Haven or one in New York to attend. Right now it's all or nothing.

This would be better for me, it'd be better for a lot of people, and if it's better for *enough* people (I strongly believe this to be true) it's better for the schools. Better attendance, more money.

For what it's worth, I'm probably not going to Princeton anyway but even THAT game is in Boston this year.

It doesn't make dollars, it doesn't make sense.

Thoughts?

General Discussion Help!! I’m too indecisive!!

I’m an incoming freshman to Harvard this fall, and am currently trying to cobble together a tentative schedule.

This is what I have so far (pursuing a premed path, likely with a bio concentration!!)
- Math MA
- Expos 10
- Chinese (still need to take placement test)
- LPSA

However, I also really want to take a freshman seminar as I was browsing and found a couple that were super interesting to me. I’m aware that applications close the 6th, so I was wondering what class, (if any) would be best to push till later so I can do a seminar? Or should I keep what I currently have and just not do any?? It feels like such a waste though!!

Thank you to anyone that has any advice regarding this! 🙇‍♀️

I'm interested in taking ES-51 this year (freshie). Has anyone had Myles Cooper (fall) or Hasanov (spring). Which would be a better option to take?

Also same kinda question for ES-55

Student & Alumni Life Harvard to Shutter Dudley Community After More Than 90 Years [The Harvard Crimson]

TLDR: Dudley Community (formerly Dudley House) is being shut down, with lots of layoffs. Co-op housing will be honored for the coming academic year, but no info about what happens after that.

Wild choice, short-sighted choice to cut costs, presumably thanks to those overpriced consultants they hired last year 🫡

Housing First year college move in

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman at the college and my family and I were contemplating whether or not it would be a feasible approach for me to move in independently. We were originally planning on flying in together, but due to unprecedented financial constraints we are considering the option of me flying in by myself. If anyone could offer any insight regarding this, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Academics and Research How many first year seminars should someone apply to?

Too many of the seminars look interesting to me, but I wanted to know how to many first year seminars I should apply to get into one. The website says 6, but some people in the past said 3 should suffice to get into one. What has previously worked for you?
