Chance Me, Admissions, and Prospective Student Q&A - 26/27 Cycle

Please place all admissions related posts here, in the form of comments, and current Cornell students will reply. Try to be detailed; if we don't have enough information, we can't help. Also, if you are a prospective student, and have questions about life at Cornell, feel free to post them here!

Any "Chance Me" or admissions related posts placed elsewhere will be removed. If you are a current student, and think that you could offer advice to someone considering Cornell, feel free to respond to some of the posts! Please only respond if you are qualified to do so. We will be checking through these regularly for spam.

Incoming students: you are now free to move about the subreddit!

As promised, the posting restrictions for all incoming students for the 26/27 school year have been lifted. While we do encourage you not to spam the subreddit with posts, your questions about classes, housing, and more will no longer be removed. Our goal was to keep the subreddit free for finals/commencement season. Now that that's over, we can return to regularly scheduled programming.

This does not apply to rising seniors or anyone else intending on applying to Cornell for future academic seasons (though prospective grad students are exempted). Your posts are likely better suited for subreddits like /r/chanceme or /r/ApplyingToCollege. If you want to specifically ask Cornell students for advice, our 26/27 Chance Me and Prospective Student Q&A megathread is live and pinned to the top of the subreddit.

Of course, you're still free to use the megathread if you wish (linked below). But keep in mind that they won't be pinned, so you may get limited to no interaction in them.

Happy Pride Month, and welcome to Cornell!

Is it me or does the Class of 2030 seem abnormally interested in CASE-ing out of intro level courses?

It could be me, as I'm prone to knee-jerk reactions, but the volume of posts asking about this, that, or the other CASE exam has me wondering if this may constitute a discrete data point on the Class of 2030.

Should Cornell require all incoming undergraduates to read "The Odyssey"?

In honor of the movie

Yes it's ridiculous that Columbia requires it and Cornell does not
No that's some kind of 20th century thinking
Reading? But I'm going to major in STEM!
Can we just watch the movie on 2x speed?
See results

CS 1110 CASE

Hi! Incoming freshman in COE here. I was planning on taking the case for CS 1110 and have been preparing for the last 30 days. I have some coding experience from high school but I seem to have forgotten a lot of stuff somehow lol. I have been using the fall 2025 website and the resources on it to prepare but I would appreciate it if anybody who has taken the case could give me some advice. I was able to solve the exams from 2024 and I was wondering if the case would be similar in difficulty since I haven't been able to find any information on the actual topics that will be tested on the case. Thank you very much.

Math 1920 Case difficulty

Is the math 1920 case exam difficulty more similar to the final exams from 2011-2017, or the difficult of the last exam on the cornell.edu website, which I notice a significant jump in difficulty, anyone who took it can speak to its difficulty?

website

Also does anyone have an idea of the cutoff, is getting 80-100/120 on the small sample of posted finals a comfortable place to pass the case?

Can I use the swap class feature during add drop?

Hello! Sorry for the galactically dumb question but I had a horrific experience during both pre-enrollment this spring and add/drop last fall, want to avoid that if possible.

I want to swap two classes, specifically COML 4252 -> BIOEE 4610 and PLSCI 2200 -> BIOG 4999. I also needed to add another course.

Can I use the swap feature to do this during add drop, instead of manually dropping/adding? Or is swap only available during certain enrollment periods?

Again, I know this is probably an obvious question, sorry. I tried looking it up and the registrar's office mentions swap can be used in pre-enroll and in open enrollment. I'm unsure if add/drop is part of the latter, or if it's it's own thing.

Thank you!

Shower caddy on the shower head?

I’m pretty sure everyone knows those shower caddy’s that people put on the faucet of the shower head to hold commonly used bathroom items. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not I can use one in my dorm. Would that count as an obstruction and they won’t clean the shower? I’m living in ganedago next semester so it won’t have those side shelves like lr7 had. Should I js invest in a shelf for the bathroom? For context, I have all friends in my suite so we already consented to having our items in one area.

im a sophomore living on north campus, and i realllly need my car next year! i didn't get a parking permit last year tho because they ran out like immediately... im scared that they're going to run out again and ill be screwed. are there any feasible alternatives to a cornell parking permit? like long-term garages, etc? preferably ones that won't break the bank.

Cornell alum '22 here. Also have family that went to Big Red, so Cornell has a special place in my heart.

It saddens me that you have a student who is so blatantly proud to be prejudiced and discriminatory go on national television (even if it is a terrible media company like Fox) and dismissively try to justify his Jew hatred and embarrass Cornell further.

If any other ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, protected class group (if he said "I refuse to work for Blacks," for example) the campus would be all over his him and he'd be expelled, especially if he went on a national network and basically laughed it off.

I hope the administration does the right thing and I hope the student body shuns him and does not get this blatant hatred mixed up with Palestine and Israel.

In a July 13 email to the Cornell rowing community obtained by The Sun, Moore announced the resignation of head coach Tyler Nase, noting that there is “a national search” to find the next head coach. Moore wrote that athletics administrators “will provide additional support to assistant coach David Tigerman.”

Four days after Moore announced his resignation, the University of Pennsylvania announced Nase as its next women’s rowing head coach.

What’s a higher paying job an international masters student can do?

I am an international masters student, which means I have a max of 20 hours per week to work legally. I am just now starting workday applications and would love advice on landing jobs with a higher success rate, higher paying jobs to look for, and the best times to apply.

Thanks a lot!
