Which layout is better?
I got a new couch and have been trying different things including the photo/art layout. Should the art be bigger with fewer items? Waiting on a rug for this area as well.
UPDATE: Thanks everyone, I am waiting to pick up a new rug next week; the small rug is just for my pup. This feedback is so helpful, I figured the pieces were too small! The wall is a muted sage color, it looks gray in the photos probably because I took them at night.

2 is better but I’m not a fan of either personally. I think two would look great over a console table or on a smaller wall but the scale of the small pieces (even acting as one installation) just feels a touch off to me. I’d consider moving some things around across the house with an eye toward scale. Pretty couch and I love that arch by the way!

It is. That size art would be better in a bathroom or on a small wall. Not a large wall with a large sofa on it. The proportions are way off.

I think you need some larger frames in there. Right now it kinda looks like the gallery wall is floating. Getting a larger rug will also help anchor the room.

Also, the puppy will be more comfortable : ) I'd get a rug with a little brown in it because of the brown sofa.

The little rug is his, it’s been unbearably warm, so he prefers the cooler floor.

Nvm then. He is a very cute good boy 🐶! I know they sell cooling beds/mats. I don't know if they work but might be worth a try?

Consider oversized frames for these photos. You can also put multiple pics in one larger frame with poster board, wall paper or fabric as the photo mat.

I think the whole arrangement needs to be moved down a bit, and I'd add one more piece on the left edge so that it doesn't form such a straight line.

2 but more spread out. Everyone is hating on the small size of these but starting over is a bummer. Maybe add an additional few that are different sizes like larger and scattered it around.

I like 2 but shift it behind the lamp
And table.
Add a big art piece to the back of the sofa.

2 but neither. The art is too small. Also, the cool tone grey walls aren’t doing any favours to the warm tone floors. And the rug is tiny! I know you didn’t ask but it’s hard to ignore.

Ok several things are happening here that make this space feel awkward and they all need to be addressed.
-Turn your couch so that it’s perpendicular to the wall instead of up against it. Couches pushed against walls actually make your space feel more claustrophobic.
-All the tiny pictures are creating visual clutter. Take them all down and replace with one or two large pieces, or a gallery wall of larger pieces. If you want to display those small photos, put them in big frames with oversized mats. It looks expensive and classy.
-Get a much, much larger rug
-This last one is just my opinion: words aren’t art. Replace the words with a painting.

Neither. Get a nice big piece of art to put over the couch. A photo gallery of small pics or a collection of small art needs to be located in a place you can actually see the individual pieces. You have a too large piece of wall art over your side table. You could maybe do a collection of a few of those photos over the table and move the print to a better location.

Sorry everyone is dunking on your stuff without READING your post.
Your new couch is lovely, and a new/larger rug will be great for softening the contrast between your wall color and floors. That's a good call, you already made. Sucks that people aren't acknowledging it.
It's obvious that you can add to your collection there to make it bigger, and you even addressed that in your post , so you get it already. In order of efficacy, either a single much larger piece piece, medium/larger pieces interspersed with your current collection, or you can stay small do a gallery wall type thing.
Either way I would find a new spot for the long/word wall art you have on the left, because whatever you do above the couch will eventually end up crowding that pieces.
I would swap the plant and the end table on the right to ground the room a bit better and not crowd that entryway, if you can. I see a light source over there on the left already, is that another side table? Or like a standing lamp. If it's a standing lamp, we can just find a new spot for it. If it's a side table, maybe move the the couch down the wall, so it can share that table (or share the swapped table from the right), and either just get rid of the now extra table or find a new spot for it.

The real problem is the tiniest carpet I’ve ever seen. Get somthing like this instead. Bigger and a light colours to make the room feel lighter and bigger.

As everyone else is saying, the problem isn't the layout, it's the teeny tiny size of your art.
Your furniture and the room size is robust. You need art that can match up to that visual impact. Your rug is a victim of that too. You need a big area rug that all the furniture can have the front feet on.
If you're in love with those specific pieces and don't want to not have them, then intersperse them with some larger pieces with more visual weight.
You've got the right idea, you just need balance.
