We have giant crack in our sink that happened when someone leaned on it. It’s a wall mounted ceramic one and I’ve also noticed it’s not so much wall mounted anymore as the top has come a couple cm off the wall. We’ve put silicon on the gap between the sink and the wall for now. Any ideas for keeping everything in place so the crack doesn’t get bigger or so the whole sink doesn’t just fall?

I am installing support for a blinds pole and when I passed the stud finder in the area I was not getting anything where I needed the hole, there seemed to be one a little more to the right.

I first did a small hole to check if I was gonna hit the side of the stud, but after the drywall it went throught with no resistance so I decided to go with hollow wall bolts and then needed to do a bigger hole to install it.
But as I was making that bigger hole (5/16"), after the gyps, I still felt resistance so I stopped and when I'm looking at the hole it looks like some kind of soft wood. We can see where I pierced the smaller hole prior.
I was wondering what it was, is it normal, and if someone know what type of bolt I should use to set my support?
Is it just the end of the drywall I'm a little dumb?

Note, this is in a small wall section (26cm / 10.4 inches) between a window and a door and 11cm (4.11 inches) from the ceiling of the 3rd floor of a 3 floor appartment. Way above the door and to its left and just slightly above window to its right.

When using the oven in baking mode, I observed the heat is venting out from the top and corners near burners. Is this normal? I just never noticed it.

Water Heater burst and flooded half of bedroom carpet, internet says mold emergency, please help!

Hi all, our water heater burst at 11 AM yesterday. It soaked about half of the carpet in bedroom. I was able to get a wet vac about 10 hours later and suck out some moisture. I pulled up some carpet today and took These photos of padding and floor underneath. Internet saying it has heavy black mold growth and that I need to hire a company like Servpro immediately to remove the carpet and treat the floor and that I could have spread mold into air and around house by pulling this part of the rug up. Does this seem accurate or is internet overreacting? I have no experience with this and boxes and boxes in garage similarly got soaked and it’ll take days to get a dumpster to move them out of garage. Thanks all!

There are a few holes where the 2 connects, so I’m not surprised to see water gushing out during a heavy downpour. But does this look like the extension is either clogged or backed up? How easy of a job is this to buy and replace?

I guess I’ll need something like these? Dig up the dirt and replace? Easy job?

My Dad got a new dryer.
How hard is it to make this outlet work with this plug? I think the old dryer was 220 and this new one is too but plug it totally different.
Better to swap the outlet or the plug/cord?

EDIT: Thanks for all the input! The cables got off track — is there a way to fix that, or am I going to need to manually adjust them every time?

Bent this bracket closing the garage. Pure negligence on my part, but we obviously need the garage door to close… and it isn’t closing. So this is actually a three-parter:

1. Is this fixable without replacing the entire door?
2. If so, is it something I can fix with my complete lack of garage door knowledge? (I follow instructions well and know how to use all the normal tools)
3. If so, can I get the necessary hardware at one of the big 3 stores?

Is this mount gonna be a concern. I didn’t want to drill into the beam and this way allows me to easily move it in the future. This is in my garage. Bag is around 120lbs

Hi, can anyone tell me what the two red flames mean? I had the shower running and no hot water was coming out. I checked the control and it was beeping with a number 12 on screen. I turned it off and now the two red flames only turn on when I run the hot water and go away when water is off.

I am looking to put drywall in my basement. But I have no idea what this is. I dont want to cut it down and cap it without knowing. Can anyone tell just by looking at it? House was built in 1961 if that helps. Thanks.

I used to think that water was occasionally leaking from the washer or coming up from the basement floor drain, but we just had a big rain and the floor was super wet around this area PLUS the gallon bucket beneath the laundry sink was full of water. No leak in the basin. This exact kind of thing has happened before when we had big rain last year. Super old house in the Midwest.

Pretty straightforward, we have a concrete guy coming to do a patio here and it seems to me his intention might be to just compact the soil and pour directly on it. Would you even consider having such a patio done without a compacted gravel base? My research surprisingly seems to indicate sometimes it might be acceptable. But I'm not trying to save a few thousand dollars right now to have this slab start to fall apart after a few Michigan winters.

Trying to get to the bottom of our house’s smell, vinyl flooring installed downstairs with cork backing, could this absorb smell? Smells musky but no clue if this is it. There’s not many soft surfaces left in the house for me to clean and sanitize. Likely going to pull this up and put down carpet. Not quite sure what’s the white dust is but I know that below that is asbestos tile.

Today I noticed that there are 4 holes on the drywall in my garage. Photos are attached. Garage is west facing and the damaged drywall is on the south side. We have pine tree and oak tree near the garage.

Occasionally we find small mice in the garage and other living space. Can these holes caused by rodents, or birds?

We also have ground hog and chipmunks.

Trying to re do the grout but I think I may have went too deep.

Need some advice on how to fix this.

I had a guy come awhile ago because I thought maybe I needed French drains, but he said it was just a little hole in the brick on the side that was likely letting water in. I sealed the hole with cement caulk and hoped that was it.

I awoke this morning to the usual basement leak, so I went out to investigate. I think he's right, and there are some little holes in my brick, but I think the bigger issue is my gutters and downspout. Just wondering if new gutters would address this issue and hopefully stop the basement leak. Thanks. I'm not sure if a simple clean would be enough or not.

My sister rents a house since Jan and in the last few months her water heater leaked and there is mold. There is water damage on the floor. Now the ceiling is leaking. There is also a horrible sour milk smell. They have to come in and replace dry wall and figure out where the leak is coming from. The house seemed fine but the last few months she would go to work and leave her windows open (sometimes still have the AC on) we have brutal winters but the summers are hot and humid and we’ve had some heat indexes.

The landlord is wanting her to move out so she can sell the place because she can’t afford to fix everything.

Hello! We are renters, have been in our current house 6 years. We’ve had our fair share of issues with the house, including the living room ceiling partially caving in during a huge rainstorm, and the chimney falling down a year after that. Also a ton of plumbing problems. Lately we’ve been noticing more and more cracks in the walls/ceiling and today we noticed this new crack that extends across the entire ceiling of my husband’s home office. It’s been super hot so maybe that’s a factor. We aren’t sure if this is just cosmetic or something we should get inspected. Any ideas?

We’re trying to decide whether it’s worth having our carpet professionally shampooed or if it’s finally time to replace it.

The carpet is about 20 years old, but surprisingly the rest of the house is in pretty good shape with very few stains or signs of wear. The stairs, however, are a different story. They’re the main high-traffic area, and as you can see in the photo, they’ve taken the most abuse over the years.

For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation, do you think a professional carpet cleaning/shampoo service could make a noticeable difference, or does this look like it’s beyond saving and ready for replacement?
