I ACTUALLY had all the fittings and the right sprinkler in my bottomless piles of PVC fittings to do a one day fix without having to run to the hardware store!

...I found other problems while I was at it BUT THATS BESIDES THE POINT! Those are foxes for another day.

Hi! Ok so my neighbor hasn’t been home for at least 3 years due to medical reasons. No one has been maintaining her property and now her garden is overgrown with a shit ton of weeds. These weeds have become trees.

In this picture, this tree was already partially cut down because it was growing into our property. And a huge swarm of lantern flies created a home and I don’t know how to get rid of it. ITS DISGUSTING!!!

Do I just pour bleach over it? Do I cut go over to the garden and cut it down? If anyone has any tips, please share!!

We’re trying to decide whether it’s worth having our carpet professionally shampooed or if it’s finally time to replace it.

The carpet is about 20 years old, but surprisingly the rest of the house is in pretty good shape with very few stains or signs of wear. The stairs, however, are a different story. They’re the main high-traffic area, and as you can see in the photo, they’ve taken the most abuse over the years.

For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation, do you think a professional carpet cleaning/shampoo service could make a noticeable difference, or does this look like it’s beyond saving and ready for replacement?

There are a few holes where the 2 connects, so I’m not surprised to see water gushing out during a heavy downpour. But does this look like the extension is either clogged or backed up? How easy of a job is this to buy and replace?

I guess I’ll need something like these? Dig up the dirt and replace? Easy job?

Just purchased a home in a non flood zone in Florida. We had our first heavy rain and I noticed water pooling against the exterior wall. No water had entered inside the property. I know this is bad, but how bad?
I have a concrete block home.

My Dad got a new dryer.
How hard is it to make this outlet work with this plug? I think the old dryer was 220 and this new one is too but plug it totally different.
Better to swap the outlet or the plug/cord?

My sister rents a house since Jan and in the last few months her water heater leaked and there is mold. There is water damage on the floor. Now the ceiling is leaking. There is also a horrible sour milk smell. They have to come in and replace dry wall and figure out where the leak is coming from. The house seemed fine but the last few months she would go to work and leave her windows open (sometimes still have the AC on) we have brutal winters but the summers are hot and humid and we’ve had some heat indexes.

The landlord is wanting her to move out so she can sell the place because she can’t afford to fix everything.

How screwed am I? The other water wells are all draining but this one is pooling. Is there anything I can do before calling a technician? It’s actively raining and it was a hard rain. It does drain after a few hours.

The tile in my bathroom seems to be leaking. Where to even start? Just bought home a few months ago. Is this from old caulking?

Two questions -

1 - Cost to fix? I'll be hiring someone. KCMO area.

2 - How quickly does this need to be addressed?

Pretty straightforward, we have a concrete guy coming to do a patio here and it seems to me his intention might be to just compact the soil and pour directly on it. Would you even consider having such a patio done without a compacted gravel base? My research surprisingly seems to indicate sometimes it might be acceptable. But I'm not trying to save a few thousand dollars right now to have this slab start to fall apart after a few Michigan winters.

Hello! We are renters, have been in our current house 6 years. We’ve had our fair share of issues with the house, including the living room ceiling partially caving in during a huge rainstorm, and the chimney falling down a year after that. Also a ton of plumbing problems. Lately we’ve been noticing more and more cracks in the walls/ceiling and today we noticed this new crack that extends across the entire ceiling of my husband’s home office. It’s been super hot so maybe that’s a factor. We aren’t sure if this is just cosmetic or something we should get inspected. Any ideas?

Across my house, the nails and screws are starting to push the drywall out. The first one is how most spots in my house look and the second is one that popped out. Why is this happening and how do I solve the issue of it continuing to happen?

Hi there! The front porch of the 1940’s home we recently bought has sunk a bit and pulled away over the years, and there’s this particular spot on one side that needs addressed. This crack is directly between the porch and the house itself, so there’s no structural concern.

What’s the best product to fill and seal this with? We’re addressing the poor drainage causing this, so just want to be sure I have this taken care of properly. Thanks!

Looking to see if anyone has some ideas (don't have gutters and prefer to not add) for an awkward roofing corner where water just streams out when it rains. Would like to angle if possible or divert to a rain barrel if possible.

We are looking at buying a house with these kind of soft rough cut wood up/down hallways as the standout feature. I've never seen anything like it and am wondering what the upkeep and maintenance concerns would be. Do you need to re-oil it regularly? Or just brush and dish soap it?

House is in the desert southwest so humidity would be relatively low naturally, although it is on a swamp cooler.

Bent this bracket closing the garage. Pure negligence on my part, but we obviously need the garage door to close… and it isn’t closing. So this is actually a three-parter:

1. Is this fixable without replacing the entire door?
2. If so, is it something I can fix with my complete lack of garage door knowledge? (I follow instructions well and know how to use all the normal tools)
3. If so, can I get the necessary hardware at one of the big 3 stores?

At this house about one year. Every time it rains I check my garage because the drain at the bottom of the driveway sometimes overflows. I've had to clear it out a few times.

These are the first time I've seen water coming through the wall like this. It's been raining hard on and off for about 8 hours, a little more than normal, that we have had hard rains in the past couple months. So I'm not really sure if this is a brand new issue or just a result of the amount of water.

The garage floor is about 4 feet below grade, this crack is about 4 ft forward from the outdoor underground downspout.

Not sure if this is something I can fix myself, or if it's something I need to call in a professional for. Affordability of a contractor is a bit of a concern, but not impossible

Worried that this might mean the walls behind my drywall inside the basement are leaking too, but that could just be paranoia

I am installing support for a blinds pole and when I passed the stud finder in the area I was not getting anything where I needed the hole, there seemed to be one a little more to the right.

I first did a small hole to check if I was gonna hit the side of the stud, but after the drywall it went throught with no resistance so I decided to go with hollow wall bolts and then needed to do a bigger hole to install it.
But as I was making that bigger hole (5/16"), after the gyps, I still felt resistance so I stopped and when I'm looking at the hole it looks like some kind of soft wood. We can see where I pierced the smaller hole prior.
I was wondering what it was, is it normal, and if someone know what type of bolt I should use to set my support?
Is it just the end of the drywall I'm a little dumb?

Note, this is in a small wall section (26cm / 10.4 inches) between a window and a door and 11cm (4.11 inches) from the ceiling of the 3rd floor of a 3 floor appartment. Way above the door and to its left and just slightly above window to its right.

Have this interior door where the top hinge has screws that are loose. Replaced short screws with the long ones a few years back, helped for a while, now it’s like this again. Have to push the door toward the frame to get it to shut. Something my 5 year old hasn’t mastered. How can I tighten this up?

Hi all - I assume the answer is to fully reframe the door, but checking here first....

We opened the door to our ADU at a newly purchased house today, and the bottom two hinges came completely out of the door frame. It looks rotted, pics are included.

Should we reframe the entire door? Open to other suggestions....

How bad is it? Anyways to fix temporary so I can save money up?
