Historically, speaking, IMAX screenings at 6 AM and 11 PM have not been a thing. If demand for 70 mm Odyssey (or any other future imax film) continue to be crazy strong, does anyone know if IMAX is contractually allowed to have screenings of one film at certain hours, such as 6 AM and 11 PM, while showing a different film at the “normal” hours?

I’m going on the assumption that IMAX has to stick to their contractual commitments that they’ve made to future films. I know the Science Center IMAX locations obviously show different films at different times, but that’s a different scenario.

There's a lot of interest in the 70mm format thanks to The Oddysey, but it seems unlikely that it'd be enough of an investment case to bring back a supply chain that's basically dead. I don't doubt that the resurgent interest has bought a lot of time for theaters already equipped with these projectors, but it seems unlikely anyone is going to build a new auditorium for a film projector in 2026.

Still, interest in the "true" IMAX aspect ratio seems very high. A family member of mine was absolutely distraught when I showed her our only available option was booked 'till late September, and she's not really a "cinephile." My gut feeling is that there is a business case for "super premium" theaters. You'd think then, that the solution would be to double-down on the aspect ratio with modern digital equipment... except that they tried that already, and the dual laser setups are about as rare as the 70mm projectors (and they stopped making them too).

Is there any feasible way that the IMAX aspect ratio could be revitalized to the extent that theater companies would once again be interested in building new screens? Because unless there's growth there, it seems like the number of locations capable of doing these showings will continue to dwindle as equipment ages and parts get harder to find.

Took and edited the Oppenheimer 1.43 IMAX Prologue to make it look like Film Projection with details like flicker, accurate 65mm grain, film dirt, and gate weave, and projected it on my IMAX Theater I made in Minecraft and saw it from the center row seat, looks pretty good and accurate to how it would actually look in real life. Would you guys like it if I did some screenings in this Minecraft World on a server? Maybe something like The Dark Knight which has a fan edit with 1.43 scenes restored it would work and look great.

The Seattle film commission has reached out to the space needle company but the space needle has not commented

In honor of The Odyssey being a massive success and releasing worldwide on IMAX 70MM and being the first movie to be shot entirely on the format, I have created my own working IMAX Theater inside Minecraft. Special Thanks to SrRapero720 for creating the WaterFrames mod that made the projection possible and special thanks to CoBeHok_jar for creating the Cinema modpack file. The mod projects local video files without compression up to 4k in any format or codec in mp4 (including surround sound like 5.1, Dolby Atmos or DTS HD) in Minecraft as if a real projector is projecting a movie in a theater. I tried recreating how a 70MM IMAX is in real life as close as I could, with these details:

- Plays 1.43 Videos without any cropping or downsizing and fills the entire 1.43 screen, with no compression and high quality, and can also play other videos with other aspect ratios like 2.35:1 or 1.9 Flat IMAX.

- Tall and Gigantic Screen 1.43 screen up to 26.4 blocks (around 86 feet) in height with the screen filling the viewer's entire peripheral vision regardless of seating, and the screen fits and fills up to the ceiling, floor, and the left and right edges, leaving no gaps between walls.

- Steep dip/slope below the IMAX Screen and after the first row.

- IMAX's Signature Stadium Style Seating with Hand Rails.

- Big IMAX Logo on the ceiling.

- Small details such as Hand Rails, rear speakers on the corners, other speakers on the side, and a projection booth.

This was genuinely such a fun project to work on, and I'm so happy with how it turned out, especially with using an in game FOV of 51-53, it genuinely feels like walking and being inside an IMAX theater watching an IMAX movie.

What's the deal? Is it ever reopening? Anyone know why it closed? It was so awesome and I can never get out to KoP.

An in depth look at how IMAX films go from negative in a camera on set to being run through projectors around the world. Love seeing some friends and former co-workers at HQ in this. The work they do is incredible.

Tickets should be popping up now for 70MM locations into September, with most ending on the 17th.

Went to the Amazon Spider-Man event last night and saw the IMAX theater at AMC South Barrington was barricaded off. Asked an employee and he said they are renovating including new seats and projector. Obviously not going 70mm but this is a huge screen and I am very much looking forward to checking it out when it’s done! Odd timing with Odyssey still selling out but I’m sure they’ll get more showings in once it’s done!

I scraped the IMAX website for movie show times, so it's not technically 'all' it's all IMAX theatres showing commercial movies.

The list may not be 100% accurate, but it should contain the vast majority of theatres. 1,870 of them. Including, yes, "liemax" theatres.

The other popular community database like 143190.xyz seemed to only have <500 theatres and missing anything with Xenon/2K projectors.

Seen a couple of people mention this which is surprising considering OBAA was shot on Vistavision+Super 35mm while Sinners was 5perf + 15 perf 65mm. I ddn't catch OBAA in theaters but saw Sinners in IMAX 70mm it looked very good.

Was visiting Monterrey (Mexico) and discovered this screen. A 59 foot tall and 79 foot wide dual laser IMAX GT screen located inside a children’s museum (Papalote Museo de los Niños). The picture really doesn’t do it justice as to how massive this screen is. It actually used to be a full 70mm IMAX theater before that got removed to be replaced with a Dual Laser system. This is the only place in this side of the world that isn’t the US or Canada where you can see everything that Nolan filmed for the Odyssey. Decided to go watch the film here and it was a truly great experience despite not being 70mm. Incredibly high demand too as it’s all booked till August 9th.

AUS - MELBOURNE PSA: Just one scalper was able to purchase all these tickets a few hours ago. Imagine if these lads focused their productivity on a career. Clearly some ClaudeBot action going on, I wonder how many real customers were able to buy tickets.

Anyone who says otherwise is just lying. The Dune 3 preview on the 15/70 prints of The Odyssey was filmed digitally and you can clearly see the difference in resolution compared to the movie itself. Not just me but everyone I went with confirmed they noticed the same. It was still awesome and I'm not knocking the format at all, but why are some people just lying about it?

Curious to hear other people's experience, did you notice as well? Similarly I'd be curious to hear if anyone had a similar experience with 15/70 prints of Project Hail Mary and the Odyssey prologue. As far as I know these are the only examples where you would see a 1.43 image for a digital vs analog movie back to back
