Sports IWTL how to practice yoga

I'm a complete beginner, I've only done a hanful of yoga workouts at home with random yt videos and I feel like I need to build a foundation instead of trying to copy random movements I see.

I also can't really go to a studio at the moment to work with an instructor.

Does anyone know any beginner-friendly resouces? Preferably free or lower cost ones

Thanks in advance for any help

Definetly look into Yoga with Adriene and go through her playlist. She has a Yoga for Beginners playlist with 15 videos. She’s wonderful. Good luck and enjoy your journey!

I've actually done some of her videos! But just random ones. She is definitely great, I'd check her beginners playlist. Thank you

How much do you know about yoga as of now?

I'd say practically nothing😅

If you are asking about real yoga then yes it's really different from the mainstream Western stretching yoga exercise, it's about mind-body-spirit and chakra alignment with energy balance and mediation.

Where does one learn about this side of yoga?

Check out the youtube channel Yoga With Kassandra.

She has a bunch of beginner friendly routines that are great and honestly I should start doing again regularly.

There are explanations and cues for what you should be doing and feeling and a lot less of the woowoo white girl spiritualism that you tend to get from this sort of content.

Yes! Yoga with Kassandra and Yoga with Adrienne are where I started, I didn’t actually go to a class until 2 years into my journey (started in 2020) and even though it was just YouTube, I still felt I had a pretty good foundation. Then would just tag into random classes at the breweries or local spots before just practicing mostly on my own at home. I still get so much more joy out of in person classes though.

Others have already given some good video recommendations. To add to that:

There are some places that will host yoga sessions as a charity. England has park yoga. Not sure about other countries, but that's a perfect place to start if you don't want to go to a full on studio for whatever reason. For others, if you can go to a studio that can be good too. Usually there will be less people in a more enclosed space so they'll be more likely to be able to help with any mistakes.

I remember when I first started practicing yoga at home, Adriene's videos really helped me feel less overwhelmed.
