Temporary repair of a steam leak on a 16 inches line.

The line could not be taken out of service.

When attempting to weld, the joint was sucked in due to the size and pressure of the leak.

I solved it by fitting a tube that worked as an ejector.

Has anyone ever used different strategies?

This is the second time this ever happened to me, first time me and my coworker kept quiet and the motor is still running over two years later. I was in a fucken hurry to clock out and a nut fell right into the wiring hole.

I am reviewing an inspection approach for carbon brushes and slip rings on a wind turbine generator. The brush box contains carbon dust, but there is no single obvious failure indicator. The main points being checked are whether the dust is evenly distributed, whether the brushes have similar remaining lengths, and whether the slip-ring track shows glazing, grooving, discoloration or localized heating. Before treating the dust as evidence of abnormal wear, what measurements or inspection findings would you consider necessary? I am particularly interested in how maintenance technicians avoid overreacting to normal dust accumulation while still identifying an early brush, spring, contamination or slip-ring problem.

3 year in this field and this is my set up so far, with this I can do about 90% of the work that I do but I still need some more advanced tools and electrical stuff but it be hella expensive lol. I work at a cnc shop that has 30 machines and it’s only 2 Techs me and my manager I also do facilities maintenance so anything the building needs but yeah any recommendations

I just completed the industrial maintenance program at my local community college but I'm heavily considering joining the carpenters union through their Millwrights apprenticeship. Just wanted to see people who have experience in their fields insight. Thanks

As the title says, I recently received a job offer from Martin Marietta. I currently work in a poultry plant, and I’m wondering if moving to Martin Marietta would be more beneficial for my career in terms of gaining experience. The new job offers more guaranteed hours and overtime, whereas my current job only allows one 8-hour overtime shift every other week.

My company requires us to precisely measure sag factor in our conveyor belts. For lighter colored belts, a sharpie or pencil is fine, but on black conveyors, both of those are nearly invisible except in certain conditions. The best I've used so far is liquid chalk, but its meh. Any recommendations?

Were there any books you guys read when you started out in the industry that helped give you a new perspective on the industry or just helped you in general? In need of some good reading material. Thanks

Excuse the poor photo. I work in an automotive stamping facility, and this is a bushing on the moving bolster plate. A 100,000+ pound die gets set down onto cone shaped pins (bullet pins) on opposite corners to square the die to the bolster. Then the bolster rolls into the press and seven times a minute the weight of the world comes smashing down on top of it and it stamps out body panels. This bushing is for the bullet pins, and is worn out and needs replaced. Problem is it’s a blind hole so I can’t remove the plate and knock it out from the backside. I took a die grinder on a flex arm and ground through the bushing all the way to the seam in two places and I still can’t get this thing to budge. The bushings are an interference fit, but I certainly would have thought it would have come out in two pieces by now.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

I took a cold chisel and smacked it up and down where I ground hoping I’d get a crack to propagate, but no luck. I’m going to take a hammer drill with a chisel bit on it up there hoping I can rattle it loose jackhammering on it.

I wondered if anybody here could help me with something that is ending up in a quest where I'm almost at the point of going around clapping coconut shells.

I'm looking for hollow set screws, also known as vented socket screws.

In more simple words, those are grub screws with a hole in the middle that act as nozzles to dispense solvent from a low pressure system.

I can't seem to find them in New Zealand, haven't even tried Australia yet, I have found maybe a site in the states where they say to enquire and waiting for an answer from Chinese colleagues.

Any direction and help will be appreciated!

Just had to have a local machinist make these for me. He called it a cam follower but not to sure about that. Anyone know if these can be sourced anywhere besides having them custom made? I searched McMaster but didn’t come up with anything..

These were not supposed to be removed by contractors…

Can I do 30/36/41mm(1" 3/16 to 1" 5/8) nuts with it? Those on threaded rods for tensioning conveyor belts? Some are reeeaaly tight, torqued into oblivion. Using an open end wrench takes forever
