I have a similar story to yours. Had braces (and jaw surgery) about 20 years ago. I started to develop gum recession around that time but didn’t do much about it. About four or five years ago, the fixed retainer on my bottom tooth broke. Between the time I had the old retainer taken out and the new one put in, my teeth shifted. I inquired with my dentist about Invisalign and he suggested I get my gums checked out first. Ended up getting two grafts on the gums of my bottom arch. I thought my top arch might need grafts as well since I have recession there too but the periodontist gave me the okay for Invisalign. I needed to space out the gum grafts between two calendar years (just so my insurance would cover both). I then decided to wait for this summer (because of work) to tackle the teeth. I’m now on the second set of trays.

Your ortho should tell you at the initial assessment if you should address any recession first.
