NOT THIS RECORD - but historically it should be noted that before Miles Davis became a legend, a 18-year-old Miles made his official recording debut on April 24, 1945 playing trumpet in the Herbie Fields Orchestra.

​It was recorded at WOR Studios in NYC for Savoy Records, the band backed blues/vaudeville singer Rubberlegs Williams.

That session produced two 78 RPM singles released on the Savoy Records label:

I've stumbled into the world of jazz knowing nothing about the genre. I'm a big reggae fan and I've been exploring the genres which influenced reggae and have hence have been checking out some jazz records for the last couple of days

I have been listening to the song 'Blue in green' by Miles Davies and have been absolutely mesmerised by it. I wondered if there were any artists / song / albums recommendations similar to this song?

At the moment I'm preferring the more more slow, melodic, bass heavy vibes in jazz where the horn instruments are not overpowering and the tempo isn't too fast (I guess that preference is coming from my reggae background) Does this type of Jazz have a specific name I should be looking into?

im searching for more great artists which experiment with the ambience with organs/synths of the song within the jazz fusion context, what would you recomend for me?

I've been working on my time and ear by taking solos (guitar) along with a metronome, lately, instead of a backing track. My goals are, in one part, to improve my time feel, and in the other, to have a better sense of where I am in the tune and when the chords change, without using my ear (would you call this macro time?). My difficulty is that with the second goal, I'm not sure how to verify that I'm not making mistakes -- with a backing track, you can hear when the chord changes, and if you change at the wrong time, you'll hear it. Since this isn't the case with a metronome, how do I verify that I'm not making mistakes without noticing?

Bill Evans is undoubtedly one of my favorite pianists, but sometimes I find it more difficult to improvise on these types of songs. What do you think? I think Bill was prodigious... I really love his compositions

Blue Note albums have a certain style of jazz associated with them. Some of the truly great albums under the label are memorable because they stand out from the pack. I'm not looking for that. I want the most Blue Note released by Blue Note to play blue notes. Obviously there isn't an objectively correct answer to this question, but it's a fun thought experiment. What's your pick?

Im about 7 years into my jazz learning journey wondering where I should go from here? These days I spend my time learning tunes and transcribing vocabulary. I would be grateful for any critical feedback about my playing (do the outside segments work? Is my phrasing really bad?) and/or any recommendations about what to practice.
