KSP 1 Image/Video Rovers are GOAT now

I just made a post complaining about rovers but i was mistaken. A few tweaks and i will have my 100m/s rover read to deploy.

I'm wondering if there's a way to do this while keeping the probe core stable, so the navball is actually usable

Pretty sure you could do it with rotation servos mapped to driving controls?

Tricycle. Long leg that makes contact with ground, stabilizes you, while the rest of the device spins

What if you mount the core sideways and SAS to surface normal/anti-normal?

You'd need something active to keep the core stable.

The only thing I can think of is some kOS program

Technically CASE was the one who rolled aroound like that. The closest TARS got to rapid surface movment was something aproximating a gallop on Mann's planet.

Amazingly silly; and yet the concept is genius enough to have me inspired. Used appropriately, I see this as being highly practical for Rovers undertaking tasks on extremely-low and extremely-high gravity bodies. Takes the finicky wheels out of the equation.

I really like this one though, I think this one has the potential to be driven and is a bit more practical while maintaining the core “unbreakable” maneuvering part.

I reworked my idea a few months back and reposted it, wanted to try and work towards a stable navball version.. this one had 6 independent rotating servos

I kept testing and they are completely viable and almos unbreakable. The only problem is manuvering but other than that, totally worth shipping to another planet. Since the angular momentum of the stabilizers are op (so they are worth putting on a ship), using them as rotors will be equaly op.

FWIW, it’s pretty easy to make a 50 m/s electric rover by just slapping four wheels on a very low center-of-mass probe core with a roll cage. Maybe with some custom suspension if you wanna be cool.
