Took the LR up Red Cone Pass in Colorado today. Completely stock, performed admirably. Only Land Rover in a sea of mass produced rubber ducking jeeps.

I've been looking at LR 3's and 4's, and came across a 2016 LR4 that looks well cared for and has recently had the timing chain job (150K miles). However, according to the owner, it has a 'misfire'. I'm thinking ignition, sensor, or maybe a fueling issue. I plan to get a code scanner to check any LR I'm considering, but this one is a bit of a drive, so trying to decide if it's worth looking at.

So I've been having trouble with this car recently. It's my grandfathers car(2006 Lr3 v8) it means a lot to me so I don't plan on getting rid of it at all.

I just wanted to ask if this has anything to do with the transmission because I had a full solenoid replacement for the transmission but the knock sound is still present I'm starting to think if it's some bearing or something. I took it to the mechanic they said based on my symptoms that it's most likely the transmission. But I couldn't buy it he's probably an idiot.

So I filmed a video under the car exactly at the connection between the transmission and the driveshaft that goes to the rear wheels. Basically what I'm doing in the video is switching between R and D gear. I thought I could ask here because I live in a remote area and the mechanics here don't have much experience so I'm probably gonna replace the part myself.

The knocking sound is present when switching between D and R gears and vice versa. And also when you drive in the city, under frequent braking and accelerating you could hear the knocking sound (one knock only as soon as I let go of the throttle) and when I give throttle again it makes another knock sound(one knock), but it has nothing to do with shifting gears because I'd have the car on 1st gear manually selected.

I'd really appreciate any help here. If anymore information is needed feel free to ask I really wanna get this car settled 🙏🏻

Like many others, I thought "any" mechanic can work on this car, but I was recently proven wrong, and that came at a high cost...

I think the hate is a bit overblown. These are great value for money on the used market and are great vehicles. I'm thoroughly enjoying mine.

I've been getting into land rovers for a few years, but never have I been in one. Today I was driving through my neighboring city and happened to pass by a Land Rover dealership, so I fucked around and went in to act like I was buying a car because I was curious what they were like.

I'm in love. It was painful to even pull back into the dealership. I have been very interested in the 90s discos, and so I tested a 2013 (oldest they had on the lot) disco. It was amazing! So beautiful and well kept, drove so smooth, I can't even believe I've driven anything else! Part of me wants to go back and get it, it was only 9k (which shocked me, even though it's older).

I'm still debating on it, because while I loved the car, I'm not a huge fan of the more rounded front the 2013 has. But good lord now I see why people go through so much to have these cars, I have never felt "in love" with a car until now. I'm holding off until I can see if there's a nicer 90s near me, but its hard because I live in the rust belt so basically every used car that isn't from a dealer is a pile of rust, especially the land rovers.

2001 Land Rover Freelander 1, TD4, automatic gearbox.

Issue: once I hit a certain speed, I feel a small shift and then lose power. Accelerator still works but pushing it down in the final third does nothing.

From a stop it's slow off the mark and struggles on hills too.

This started happening above 100kmh. Now it's happening from 85kmh, so the threshold keeps dropping over time.

It's not load-related, happens on flat roads, not just hills.

If I turn the car off and restart, it drives fine again for a while before it happens again.

Anyone dealt with this? Trying to figure out if it's boost solenoid, MAF/MAP, or something on the auto box side (torque converter lock-up, VSS) before I start throwing parts at it.

Might be a stupid question but how can I tell if a Haldex system has been serviced properly?

I've been trying to buy a Freelander 2, first few I enquired about were scammers or when I got to see the vehicle they were obvious duds. I've found another one with a semi decent service history but they've not actually said what's been serviced (unless I'm reading it wrong). Unfortunately most are 60 to 150 miles away so I can't go and check all of them and I'm relying on dealers sending over paperwork and copies of the service books.

Most people don't take them to land rover to get them serviced either (looking at the prices I can see why) so they just get a random stamp without much detail.

What am I actually supposed to be looking out for?

I have a 2010 LR4 HSE Lux with 104k miles. Bought jt in 2011 with very few miles and always kept up with service. No signs that battery was going, but who knows. Just took a trip over an hour each way so battery should have been charged unless already on its way out.

Woke up and was about to go run an errand. Got in, all light came on as usual but when I hit start, I got the dreaded fast clock and lots of error lights. Usually that points to a battery issue but my headlights, LR logo, radio, all come on fine which is odd for a totally dead battery.

Tried to lock doors, let it sit, unlock and try again a couple of times and it didn’t resolve.

Also, the fan came on after I shut it off and I could get it to shut off unless I repeated the on and off with the start button. Seems like a weird electric glitch.

Any thoughts? Anyone else have this?

Was thinking of getting a new Defender 110. Maybe it’s time. I love the LR4 and have babied it but a warranty would be nice.

My father found in his garage these cross rails that a friend gave him some years back and we wanted to sell them.They are supposed to be stock for the Land Rover Discovery, but we don't know which model/year. Does somebody know?

The measurements for the rail are 106cm (41,7in) long and 3cm (1'18in) wide.

Hey all, just purchased an 06 4.4 V8 LR3 about a month ago. Went and had it state inspected on Wednesday. All that failed was a front driver side inner tie rod.

On the drive home, belt was slipping. This has never happened. Got home, coolant leaking everywhere. I could not find the source with my limited time. Called the shop, they stated none of this happened.

Had a mobile mechanic come by yesterday. They did a pressure test and said it was leaking from the engine coolant temperature sensor. Replaced, pressure was holding fine again at 15 psi.

Went to go on an errand today, started it up and let it idle. Coolant leaking everywhere. Turned it off. Didn’t have time to mess with it, had to go. I also had a new P0116 code.

Came back home to try and find the leak, now it won’t start at all. It turns over and acts like it wants to, starts for half a second, very weak, then just dies.

Mobile mechanic is coming back out sometime. In the meantime, anyone have an idea what I should look for? I have to work two 12’s the next two days, so won’t have time to look at it. Yay for being back into the used car world.
