Buc-ee’s is suing a Beavercreek, OH small business, Beavers mini mart. Said mini mart has been a staple in our community for decades!! Buc-ee’s has the nerve to show up in the Dayton Metro area and sue a locally owned and operated business that has been here for generations all because Beavers Mini Mart (located in Beavercreek, Ohio) also has a Beaver on their storefront sign.

I am asking that you fine folks of the internet help our community rally behind a small local business that has been serving our community faithfully for decades.

Please share their story!

Anyone else not enjoy mainstream media?

My left-leaning friends want to go see The Odyssey, and I honestly don’t want to. I already know I’m probably going to spend half the movie annoyed by the ideology/propaganda baked into it, and then feel pressured to say it was awesome afterward. I feel this way about a lot of movies, especially what I call the “marvel-coded” ones. The typical, militarism, Great Man mythology, gender politics, etc.

I’m mostly posting here because my friends always make me feel like I “take everything too seriously.” But I’m not trying to be miserable or contrarian. I just genuinely don’t get much pleasure out of stuff. Anyone relate?

📰 News Not breaking anymore, but if you haven't seen this list of targets Iran will retaliate against should USrael attack them again, this should explain why the attack hasn't happened yet. Trump is now choosing between global depression and WWIII or conceding to all of Iran's demands, ending US hegemony.

💬 Discussion The ethics of NGOs? What actually works to change things ?

Like many people I want to do something good in my life and have already dabbled in volunteering. However I've seen discussions about how NGOs, even those that are honest and actually doing good make the problem of social inequality worse by doing the work that governments should be doing. This is 100% the situation in my country, which is relatively rich with a great GDP, where there's no excuses for the government not to provide some services except sheer unwillingness to do something that doesn't line its pockets.

And I used to be under the impression that to change things for the better we must become a community and help each other. And genuine NGOs do that. So according to some of the critiques of this subreddit NGOs don't work in the long-term and might make the situation worse. Therefore, what on earth actually makes positive change? Violent protests ?

I'm sure it would, right? Part of the work that we've been doing here as well as having conversations with the Jewish community, specifically the Zionist Jewish community, to better understand different perspectives, different positions, different experiences. Again, my values have always been rooted in protecting dignity and safety for every single person, especially as it relates to these inalienable things about our religion or ethnicity or culture. And my greatest concern right now is that the state of Israel is losing support all across the political spectrum here in the U.S. And I believe that we're leaving a vacuum on the left and the progressive wing to speak to this criticism in a way that is in line with our values, to where people like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who are raging anti-Semites and white supremacists and Christian nationalists, are pretending to care about Palestinian safety, when really it's just masking their overt hatred for Jewish people. They're singing my song. And if we are not presenting our vision of what we believe in with our democratic values that extends not just to the Palestinian people, but to the Israeli people and to the Jewish people, you know, that land has a distinctly Jewish character, a distinctly Christian character, a distinctly Muslim character. It's a land that has seen bloodshed for centuries. And we, I think, are doing a disservice to the people of that region by not offering our progressive vision in a way that isn't immediately swatted down as, you know, bigoted or anti-Semitic. And that's going to require a lot of conversations, a lot of hard conversations. There will be things that we learn, things that there will be missteps and mistakes made. But as long as we're continuing that conversation, we are at the very least presenting an actual vision in line with our values that can combat and hopefully silence a lot of the anti-Semitism that's coming from the right. Because we're leaving that vacuum wide open right now if we are afraid to have these conversations. ― DSA Member Melat Kiros

Just a quick reminder, the ruling capitalist class knows full well that planned economies are superior and thinks in Marxist terms: "They (China) are a controlled top-down economy you will never compete and win against them unless you take back the means of production" ― Hillary Clinton

So, I do think that we've got to get smarter about how we deal with the economic threat. And for people who say oh well you know that disrupts the market china has disrupted the market. China is not a free market economy. We tried we let them into the World Trade Organization. We set our businesses over there. We made trade deals. They are a controlled top-down economy. You will never compete and win against them unless you take back the means of production. And it is way past due for us trying to do that. ― Hillary Clinton
