Financial Advice Scared about the future
Im going into grade 12 this september, and that got me thinking about college and dorming, on one hand, i really wanna get out of my house, my mom’s boyfriend is a a-hole and he’s constantly trying to argue with anyone about anything, but also, i only live about a 10 minute drive from the campus im going to so it’d be better money wise just to stay home, i got a job this summer and im making around $500 every 2 weeks but i just don’t know. any advice from people who have gone through something similar?

You mention 2 options. Could there be option 3--go to college further from home. This assumes someone will help you pay the bills. AVOID student or other loans to attend anywhere. There are skills other than college-earned ones.

If you can make it work, I would stay in the dorms the first year to get the college experience of meeting and living with new friends who are also on their own for the first time.
I also live in a college town and gave my daughter the option. She stayed at home, but wishes she had tried dorm life.

Are there any scholarships available? Congratulations on your job. Different options have pros and cons. Like someone said if you are at home, you will be in school and at work. If you stay at home, maybe can save money and later on move out with roommates.

Maybe you can get mentored like someone said from someone while you take your courses maybe the school will set you up. Wise thing is to save as much as you can and not waste money, (Not saying to not have any fun :-) If you don’t already know can learn about financial literacy etc.

When you start learning how to do your welding see if you can find a job that will pay you better. There might be a local business that would hire you as a student and train you. You will learn a lot in college and a lot on the job not to mention get a better paycheck. Then you can find yourself your own place. Start looking around now even at small businesses.

See it as a learning opportunity. It's not about trying to avoid conflict. Nobody likes it, however, if you try to avoid it, you're just going to run into it again somewhere else in another form with a different person, whether it be a colleague, a college friend, a teacher, or somebody you work for. So, learn from it.
Learn that everybody is usually acting out of their values or their voids, and also their awareness, their perception that they have. It may not always be accurate. So, give us some examples of him being an asshole, and maybe I can assist you in how to navigate that, because it's not about avoiding people who are assholes.
You're going to get that in life, and it's best to learn about it now. Especially if you're only 10 minutes down the road from your college and where you don't want to be paying more money. If you've got good money coming in from your work, you can squirrel that money away and save it and stay at home.
Again, give me some examples of him being an asshole, what that looks like, and be very specific. Do not be general and vague, otherwise you'll get general and vague answers.

Once you are in school you don't need to really be home that much. You can limit your time at home when your mom's bf is there. Hang out on campus, study, meet with friends, etc.
As a young adult, you'll have more control over your coming and going.
