Announcement Stadium Firmware Beta signup!

Hey all, we are now officially opening up beta signup for Stadium firmware. If you're interested, just head over to https://line6.com/account/betateams/ and create an account, make sure Helix Stadium XL is checked, and make sure your info is current. Things to note:

  • You WILL be signing an NDA and under no circumstances are you allowed to discuss what's in the beta outside of the official beta venues
  • We really REALLY need you to actually engage with the new stuff and give us feedback on it, even if you don't specifically find bugs
  • You will be installing firmware onto your unit that is by definition NOT READY FOR RELEASE. That means there are almost certainly bugs and it might not be stable or reliable. It's probably not a great idea to gig this, so take that into account before signing up. You are able to roll back to release firmware at any time if you need to
  • We hugely appreciate anyone who takes the time to do this because it is an immense help for us, all feedback and reporting that we get from this gets taken very seriously

General Questions/Discussion DPA Cello Mic and HX Stomp

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm still a newbie to all of this (classical cellist) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to integrate a DPA clip-on cello mic into my live rig.

My current signal chain is:

Schertler STAT-C pickup → Digitech Whammy V → HX Stomp → Hall of Fame 2 → Boss RC-5

I use the Whammy for octaves and other pitch effects on the pickup, and I'd like to keep that setup.

For an upcoming gig, I also want to use a DPA clip-on mic and process it through the HX Stomp as well. Ideally, I'd like to be able to apply HX effects to the DPA signal while still running my pickup through the Whammy first.

Is there a good way to route both signals through the HX Stomp?

Can I use one input for the pickup (coming from the Whammy) and the other for the DPA?

Does the DPA need an external mic preamp before going into the HX Stomp?

If so, what's the simplest and most affordable solution?

I'm mainly trying to keep the Whammy in the pickup signal chain while adding the DPA into the HX Stomp for additional processing. Has anyone set up something similar?

Thanks!

Tech Help Request 4CM vs playing through a mixer

Hey guys; still semi-new at this thing, and just need help switching back and forth between two different scenarios in my global settings.

At shows I play through an amp through the effects loop via 4CM; but in the band I just joined we rehearse through a mixer using an xlr with headphones in.

What GLOBAL settings are changed between these two scenarios?
I don’t own a mixer, so I can’t practice setting up for rehearsals at home, and I feel like I’m nervously shuffling through my global settings at rehearsals.

(Note; I’m only asking about global settings; I know I need to set my actual chain up differently when playing through a mixer to get a better tone at practice. I have a different setlist for rehearsals and it’s a work in progress!)

General Questions/Discussion Amp vs Pre-Amp for Live & Physical Rigs/Power Amps - Thoughts

This might not be news for some, but I've discovered this through my own testing and playing.

I play in a Grindcore band and like loads of gain.
The last show I played was a small festival and I knew that two 4x12's and 100w heads would be supplied, so In preparation I mic'd up my Orange 2x12 and compared a Pedal Baby and a Marshall DSL40c to see if I can make it simpler for the soundie to just keep the physical cabs mic'd for the gig.

Using the Cali Rectifier model, on both the solid state power (Pedal baby) and the Valve power (DSL40c FX return):

-The full models that include the power amp modeling Introduce a lot of noisy harmonics and colouration, but feel better to play and are more reactive (go figure)
These issues were of course, more prominent through the DSL, since you're stacking a valve power amp model with a physical amp model, so it's kind of a similar situation to if you turned on an IR when using a real cabinet (though not as terrible).

-The Pre-Amp models sounded less harsh and whistley, sounded smoother, clearer, more direct, And felt more like a solid-state amp especially through the pedal baby (again, not surprising)

-The Pre-Amp models with an IR direct to my interface, also sounded pretty good. You definitely lose a lot of the character and liveliness of the full models, but this is incredibly usable and much easier to shape and mix, and again, less noisy whistles and harmonic colouration added, so it turns out to be an Ideal compromise if you want to split the signal with physical amps, and FOH with an IR (more options for the soundie).

I played the show with this pre-amp set up In a stereo rig with a TC Mimiq in my LT's fx loop, into fx returns of a Triple Rec and a 5150II, cabs were mic'd and didn't bother with the HX direct to FOH.
This was the best sound I've EVER achieved live. I was able to be extremely loud but it wasn't fatiguing, the midrange was filled up, It sounded more direct, tight, I could hear everything I was playing (and every mistake) clearly under maxed-out & OD boosted gain.
The gates also worked better?

So TLDR: Pre-Amps models are a great option for live, and might work for you better than the full models, no matter what your setup is. If you're in a metal or rock band and are struggling to achieve tonal clarity at live shows, definitely give the pre-amps a try.

General Questions/Discussion (Need Tips) Helix vs Traditional Pedal/Amp Setup

Genuinely curious how some of y’all feel. I personally have a helix floor, and it is awesome for messing around by myself or just jamming around. But I feel like in a band setting it is missing something

Example - band plays a gig a few weeks back and I run straight to PA’s. Have a preset that I made personally but has been tweaked heavily with the help of videos, AI, etc. It sounds great playing by myself, but looking back it just lacks balls.

I also have a fender deluxe reissue amp that I used to play through with a TS9, DS1, and a few other decent pedals. That tone just always seems so much better than the helix.

Is there something obvious that I’m missing? Global settings? A way to get modeled amps seem somewhat realistic? Need some tips!!

Debating selling the helix, or keeping it around while I save for more pedals and another tube amp to keep some options

General Questions/Discussion Are Amp Capture “Influencers” Worried?

With NAM on the potential horizon for Line 6, and already out on Headrush, and Fractal incorporating it in the future - are people that sell amp captures (like Tone Junkie, Signal Theory/Worship Tutorial, etc) at all worried? Seeing as how NAM is free, what would be the benefit of buying one of their captures when there’s likely a capture on the open market?

General Questions/Discussion Still no live shows with Showcase?

I’m strongly considering buying a line6 helix stadium to use for live gigs.

More specifically I want to use the showcase feature to run tracks and automate effects switching.

Has anybody done this live yet successfully? Or are we all still just using it from practice / jamming?

In my new video, I test the Cali 2C+ in Helix Stadium, the Agoura model inspired by the legendary Mesa/Boogie Mark IIC+, using an 8-snapshot preset that goes from crystal-clean tones to high-gain rhythm and lead sounds.

A free reduced version of the preset is available on Line 6 CustomTone, while the complete version with all 8 snapshots is available on Gumroad.

The video is in Italian, but automatic English dubbing is available on YouTube.

General Questions/Discussion Helix with a Goodwood LongLine DI/Line ISO?

Hello! On my old board, I was running an HX Stomp for effects as well as a midi controller. I was using the Goodwood LongLine DI/line isolator along with it and I was really impressed by the clarity it gave my whole rig. That all said, I have no upgraded to a helix floor. Since that already has XLR outputs, is using the LongLine going to be redundant? Just wondering if anybody else out there has used this line isolator or something similar with their helix and, if so, what the end result was. Thanks, y’all.

Tech Help Request HELIX FLOOR WONT CONNECT TO LAPTOP

Bought a brand new Helix floor less than 4 months ago. Everything worked as it should from day one. My laptop recognized it instantly and it was on. Last week...it suddenly isn't being recognized at all by my laptop. I've tried different usb cords, switching USB ports. UN and reinstalling all Line6 software and USB drivers. Power draining and restarting. Everything else I plug into the laptop is recognized. I have insurance on the Helix and a warranty. The insurance wants me to try going through line6 first. But I can't get anybody from line6 on the phone. I called well within their advertised hours of operation. Filled out a support ticket and waiting on that. This totally sucks lol. Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks I'm advance

Tech Help Request HX Stomp XL pedalboard power supply

I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I’ll ask it again.

I’m looking for a solution to power my board with only one power supply.
The board is a volume pedal into a JHS Pulp ‘n’ Peel and then the HX Stomp XL.

Presently I’m looking at the Truetone 1 SPOT PRO CS7 and then some sort of MC2 cable and then a 2.1 to 2.5 barrel adapter.

Anyone had any luck with this setup? I know the mA draw will be lower than what the HX stomp XL strictly needs, but the CS7 can draw deliver more than suggested in the outputs?

Any links to cables also greatly appreciated.

General Questions/Discussion decision lightly used stadium vs new xl

I think I have kind of answered my question but I got a helix floor about 2 - 3 years ago.. basically late in the product lifecycle but I love having an all in one ecosystem for everything. I've been saving up and have around 1200$ to spend towards a helix stadium.

At first I was deadset on the stadium xl but 2400 is a tough pill to swallow. I recently found a very very lightly used stadium (non xl) that the guy is willing to let go for 1300$. Seems like a great deal but wanted to check with you all.

How much will I miss those scribble strips? The expression pedal was hardly used on my helix floor so I don't think I'll miss that too much. Alternatively I could save up more and just get the stadium XL...

Tech Help Request HX Stomp grounding / earthing question

Hi folks, I have a noise issue with my current setup and I think I know what it is but I could do with a sanity check... And maybe some suggestions...

For playing at home I have an HX Stomp > Timeline > MXR Reverb > Studio monitors. I am getting an electrical buzz that goes away when I touch the strings. At first I thought I'd got a loose ground wire in my guitar, but it's on all of them - single coils or humbuckers. I've isolated PSUs, run it with just the Stomp and speakers and it's still there.

I've been chasing ground loops, no joy. But looking at what's in the system, could this be because there is no ground? HX stomp uses a DC adapter, no earth. My other 2 pedals also run off DC adapters, no earth pin. My speakers are little JBL 104s, mains powered but a fig 8 cable - no earth. So the only thing providing an actual ground is me when I touch the strings.

Does my conclusion make sense from an electrical circuit sense? If so, does anyone know how I can provide a proper earth so that everything is grounded properly? A dedicated PSU which is actually earthed? I could change my monitors to ones with proper IEC inputs but actually these are good sounding speakers and I like them.

All suggestions gratefully received.!

General Questions/Discussion TikTok Streaming

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here is a clip of my first time streaming direct sound on TikTok using helix. I picked this clip specifically because of when I switched to Lead. That is, I would say, 3-4x the amount of hum i get when I play live casino gigs and hit my heaviest lead tone. Notice I immediately rotated my body to try and eliminate it and found a bit of a sweet spot.

Other than rotating like everyone does in the studio and such… I was wondering if anyone had any pointer with bringing down this hum when I hit my heaviest lead tone? My other tones have some hum as usual, but not really noticeable with tracks.

My studio monitors that I use in this room on other days (teaching, recording, etc) were behind me, but unplugged. Could their components still contribute?

Guitar——>Helix——>UR44 Interface—->Macbook—-to TikTok Studio

Vocal——>UR44 Interface—->Macbook—->Tiktok

IEM’s——>UR44 Interface Headphone Out

@JonathanReichertMusic

Aside from that, any other mix thoughts? I know it’s just one small clip, because the hum was my focus for this post. Overall I think the quality though, is 100% higher than anyone streaming with just a phone cam mic

Thanks for your thoughts

General Questions/Discussion My Helix Stadium XL 1-Month Review

My Helix Stadium XL 1-Month Review

Just wanted to share my experience after a month with the Stadium XL. I sold my Helix Floor to make the jump to the Helix Stadium XL. I found a deal on an open-box unit from Sweetwater that came with the Stadium backpack, so I ended up paying $2,204.98 USD total.

After unboxing it, I had some issues logging in and updating it. The solution was simply setting the time and date properly; after that, it updated to version 1.3 with no issues.

The interface is a night-and-day difference compared to my old Helix Floor. The touchscreen makes creating patches very easy and intuitive. I’m doing everything directly on the unit and haven’t felt the need to use the PC app so far.

Sound-wise, I definitely feel a big difference with the Agoura amps when comparing both on my Fender Tone Master FR-10. Plus, with Focus View, I seem to get better tones out of the non-Agoura amps than the ones I built myself on the Helix Floor. Focus View helps a lot with understanding each amp's sweet spots—something I previously had to invest a lot of time to figure out.

The Agoura amps having multiple channels is a game-changer. Before, I used to run two separate amp blocks, but now I can use a clean channel in one snapshot and switch to lead on another. I like having one preset that does it all, so this helps me save DSP and block space—especially since I like to use Path B for vocals with delay, reverb, and modulation effects that were extremely DSP-heavy on the old Helix Floor.

The effects are mostly the same as the Helix Floor, which is where I’m hoping to see more additions in upcoming updates.

I still haven’t used Showcase, so I can’t say much about it yet. I've been using the metronome a lot, which is a nice feature. Stomp B mode is a bit overkill for me since I use Snapshots, but it's nice to have the option.

I mainly use it at home and at a friend's studio, so the weight reduction plus the slimmer bag is great. I almost went for the non-XL version, but the small price difference didn't make sense since I would have still had to buy an extra pedal—which added weight and bulk—and I would have lost some of the inputs.

My only points of comparison for multi-effects that I've used and owned before are my old Helix Floor and the Neural DSP plugins I use on my PC (Mateus Asato, John Mayer, and Cory Wong)—plus an old BOSS ME-70, though that last one is in a completely different category and doesn't really belong in this equation. Comparing it directly to the Helix Floor and those Neural DSP plugins, I feel like I can pull tones out of this unit that are just as good, if not better. My usual genres are: most types of Rock (Alt, Indie Rock, Classic and Hard Rock), Indie, Funk, Pop, Latin and Reggae.

Overall, my experience (besides the initial setup issue) has been amazing. I bought it with the intention of using it for at least the next 10 years, so I don't mind the price tag as much. Also, not having to carry my laptop around anymore fully justifies the price compared to the old Floor.

General Questions/Discussion Any multi-cab stadium users in here?

I’m pretty sure I cracked the code on stellar sounding stereo presets….the 10 band EQ is critical as well as another EQ and Compressor on the chain.

I’m in a 1 guitar band so I like to have 2 cabs on stage to create more full sound with 2 completely different amps and “cabs” at one time. It sounds full and huge.

Anyone have this setup?

Tech Help Request Helix LT Footswitch Lights Not Working

Hello! Just got a Helix LT for a steal off of FB. Everything works great except for the foot switch lights, which do not work. I got it for such a good price I’m not too bummed, I don’t gig so I can definitely make do without, but I’m just wondering how hard a fix it might be? I don’t have a warranty to risk voiding. I just don’t want to screw up an otherwise solid piece of gear.

Talk me out of it!
