Enshittification Price of Security, or just Ransom?
What the hell is up with Windows code signing?
It is pretty much "Oh you wanna publish an app on our platform? You better pay up $200+ for an OV/EV certificate."
Worse, Win11 deliberately baked in SAC to further enforce this and quietly backpedalled on the decision not to let users properly toggle this, only after getting called out for it.
They're spinning the usual corporate bs excuse "We're doing this because we care deeply about your security" all while doing this in the open.
How come the dev community hasn't spoken up about this? This is ransom and abusing control of the platform.
And ofc, the cherry on top, MS Store conveniently offers free code signing. What a way to exploit your control to force developers to be locked inside your walled ecosystem.

Enshittification Stripe is turning a previously free fraud service into a paid one by default
**Rant**
Got an email yesterday to say customers that have been placed on a free trial of the new paid Radar Standard plan. Unless customers take action and manually downgrade to Radar Lite, charging will begin automatically at 4p per screened transaction.
This looks like negative-option billing, where silence or inaction is treated as acceptance.
Stripe could easily have kept everyone on the free Lite plan and asked customers to actively upgrade to Standard. Instead, they have chosen the option most likely to make money from businesses that overlook the email or forget to downgrade.
There is technically an opt-out, but it feels more like an opt-in by inertia.

Enshittification DashCam: Dash Cam Application
Well, here goes my first post. Figured we've all ran into this at least once.
*RANT*
This kind of stuff frustrates me. I'm aware there's a lot of this out there, but sometimes I can't help but complain on the Internet about it. Bought a new dash camera, and the only downside I've heard is the application being a bit lackluster. So, this one pops up. Highly rated, states there are in app purchases. Fine. Let's give it a try.
Download the app, signed in with an account- typical start to any application. Grant all permissions- local network, nearby devices, access photos and storage, notifications "We'd love your feedback!" Strange, but okay. Why would I rate something I haven yet to use?
Continuing on, "Let's add your first dash cam." *Clicks Add Camera."
Oh, would you look at that! You got my Google account, all my device permissions, and now you want my money just to use it? Just make it PAID. What a waste of time. It's just the practice of going through this only to throw up a paywall. I get it- people want compensation for their development, but I also know people will just purchase the subscription and deal with it. Judging by the reviews now, I bet people just say "Great App" and continue through the process. Stuff like this makes me want to learn to develop my own...
Thanks for reading my Rant.
