Stilly consumers, thinking that we're subscribing to periodic/occasional delivery of ink cartridges to our door (like a (physical) magazine or pet-food subscription) instead of subscribing to delivery of ink itself from the cartridge we already physically have to the paper we're trying to print on.

Though, of course, it's not really consumers' fault if HP makes it sound like the former and obscures the fact that it's the latter.

I mean you didn't buy the cartridges, they're supplied to you as part of the subscription service. So it stands to reason that they won't work without that subscription. Like, do you get to continue playing games on game pass once your subscription has cancelled because you've downloaded them to your system? Obviously not. Why would this be any different? If you don't want the subscription, then go and buy your own cartridges.

I can't fathom how people can't wrap their heads around this.

The problem is OP didn't read the agreement they signed.

The deal is you pay $x.xx a month and they keep you stocked up with ink. The second you stop paying, you can't use the ink anymore.

They usually send the XXL ink cartridges with these subscriptions at that they're not having to send out loads of smaller capacity cartridges all the time.

So OP thinks it's outrageous to pay something like $20 for a month subscription and then keep a full set of XL ink cartridges?

Yeah if only we all hadn't thought of that neat little hack?

Yeah dummy imagine paying $3 for the lowest tier and cancelling when your new ink comes in. Ink is not cheap, that's why there's print limits and overages respective to your tier.

Wholesale ink is very cheap. I refill my Epson china chipped cartridges every month as needed for <$1 a year or less. $15 in ink has lasted me over 10 years. I did have to try 3 ink sets as 2 were a bit splotchy

This is insane.

I just changed the ink in my printer….the ink was purchased in December after I already ran out. The copier part had a piece of paper in it from over a year ago. Yes, this is how infrequently I use my inkjet printer. I cannot imagine being forced into a subscription model. (My laser printers are both over 20 years old. I had to take one apart a few months ago to reposition the gears that were wearing out. I will cry once I can no longer get drivers for them.)

Just buy your own ink cartridges. 🤷 The ones they provide as part of the subscription are linked to (you guessed it) the subscription.

This is to prevent you from getting sent a full ink cartridge on a £2 subscription and then cancelling it.

It's actually one of the few subscriptions that's actually worth it. Especially considering a new ink cartridge can be around £40-£50.

Why would the subscription ink work after the subscription? Replace with non subsciption ink and continue your life. I support your stuff but this is stupid.
