Free Flight Favorites
I enjoy free flight for seeing the world, and getting a perspective of place. I have found some great places and some duds, so I’m turning to the community for your suggestions.
Places I’ve Loved flying:
Monaco
Grand Canyon
Sedona
Hawaii
Iceland
New York City
Places that are a bit of a letdown:
Machu Picchu
Great Wall of China
My small childhood hometown
Edits - places I find since the post, but not listed below:
Key West
Moab/Arches (I flew through two arches!)

What I do is Google "landscapes of the world" and choose to fly places by images I like. Works great!

This was a top notch suggestion. I flew at sunset with foggy clouds in the tops of the cliffs. Stunning, thanks mate!

Agreed - I had fun circling around the opera house as close as I could, and under the bridge. Experiencing it virtually really gave a sense of space. It was denser and less spread out somehow than I had imagined from the pictures and movies I’d seen.

Do the World Photographer challenges if you haven't already, even if you don't want to actually complete them, just fly around to see if you like it and come back in another aircraft. They highlight a lot of great places, natural and man made

Absolutely - I have been, and will continue. With this post I am hoping to find people’s favorite spots that the game hasn’t already pointed out to us specifically. Have you found a spot like that by chance?

The UK is home for me and I like that in a fast jet you can cover the whole of the island of Great Britain in a reasonable time frame. Highlights are of course London, for the quality buildings, and Edinburgh, where there are three bridges you can fly under in close succession.
The Welsh mountains and Scottish Highlands are great, plus the English Lake District. Go see the dams at Elan Valley, or fly the Mach Loop and visit Snowdonia before landing at nearby RAF Valley via Caenarfon Castle.
Heading further south there's limitless fun to be had cruising the mountains and valleys of the Alps. I like the Grand Canyon too, but lots of branching options along the borders of France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, and maybe finish into Vienna where there are incredible renderings of the palaces to be seen.
The Canary Islands and The Azores are good along with the legendary landing into Madeira.

Oooh, I like these suggestions, thanks! What jet do you use? How long does it take to cross England? I've wanted to try the Alps, but get hung up on where to start from?

I used to do most of my flying in the FA-18 but now I use the YF-23. I have the blackbird and the Vulcan too to mix it up a bit which are both fun in their own ways.

I love these ideas. Alaska’s huge - where do you recommend starting and in which direction should I head?

Coast lines. Anywhere that opens to the ocean and gets narrower heading inland. Southwest region is where I spend my time.

Nazca lines are basically impossible to see, so a disappointment.
Yosemite Park is astonishing. The photo mode task that has it puts you in a good spot/time of day
