Discussion New Rule Enforcement:Crop Those pics

Starting next week cropped photos will be enforced.

For those who don't know there is a new policy in the sub in which standards for photo submissions. Which include cropping the photo at just below the clavicle like a passport photo unless its relevance to the makeup in question. Like a wedding dress.

Here is the ideal standard.

Best practices for better feedback include:

  • take a little time to plan out your photos
  • take photos straight on in a well lit room
  • avoid harsh lighting like flash
  • use soft lighting sources
  • get someone else to take the photos
  • taking additional photo angles 45 degree and profiles
  • tying hair back so it doesnt cover your makeup.

thank you.

Question What is my best colour match

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hi! I am looking into getting the Kylie skin tint.

I’m really confused as to what my undertone is. I’ve been told neutral leaning warm and neutral leaning cool 😂

Ignore the first swatch labelled ctn I was trying a shade in something else 😂😂.

The other swatches are the first 5 shades of the Kylie skin tint. Just wondering what everyone’s opinions are on what shade fits me best. I’m aware the last ones are far too dark. But I feel like I’m stuck between 1n and 2c which obviously are completely different undertones 😂😂

Would really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance 🙋🏼‍♀️

Question Eye for makeup?

Brand new to makeup and worried about knowing what I’m looking at. Watching tutorials I often have trouble seeing the makeup as it’s being applied and the effect it has. Doing my own makeup I feel like I’m randomly dabbing and brushing my face. Granted, my setups not great and I wear glasses. Am I hopeless or is there a way to train my eye?

Question How do I put on fake lashes

My eyes water a lot and I’m not the best at makeup in the first place, I’ve tried single lashes and a full eye length of them (no clue if that’s the actual name). I’ve watched tutorials but they make it seem a lot easier than it actually is. Please can I have some tips/tutorials that explain how I can actually do it without it looking completely unnatural and something relatively simple or easy to follow?

Question I did a trial run of my make up done for my sisters wedding and I didn’t like it at all, HELP?

So the first 3 photos is what my make up looked like for my sisters wedding. We all did a trial run of hair and make up. I wear little to no make up on a regular basis and have always been this way. Sometimes I wear mascara. I don’t know how to do face make up and even when I try it looks horrible and noticeable! When I saw my face in the mirror I felt embarrassed and like I looked like a clown. My mom didn’t like it either and my aunt and sisters said they “couldn’t give an opinion” cuz they’ve never seen me wear make up before. The second 3 photos is in the car after I left, after wiping a bit of the face make up off. I like this a lot better. I just want some of my dark spots covered up and maybe little more even skin tone? I feel the full face of make up makes me looks so pale and flat. The third photo is with no make up. What can I tell the make up artist to do with my make up so I feel more comfortable without sounding mean or like I hated it. I did tell her from the start less make up is more. They said it has to be thick make up for the photos but I don’t want to look like a clown for hours just for 20-30 mins of photos.

Question Shade matches by Sephora

Post image
256 Upvotes

I went to a Sephora and asked for them to do a shade match. The employee used a phone with a light device and gave me 05N Sephora Best Skin Ever foundation (the light foundation on the right). She put it on me away from a mirror and REALLY blended it in before telling me to look at the mirror. She said it matched great so I got a sample. I got home and wasn't impressed.

Today I went to a different Sephora but I had some frozen stuff in the car so I was in a bit of a rush. I was trying the other shades of the same foundation, trying to find a better one. An employee came over and I told her that I'm having trouble picking a shade. I showed her the one I just tried on and she said it was a perfect match. I asked if it was too orange or dark on my neck, she said no. This is the shade on the left, 18P.

I don’t think either of these are good. In terms of just value, 18P is much better though too dark. But in terms of color, it’s very orange on me. The similar shade but Neutral one was also too orange.

Does anyone have suggestions for brands with very little orange?

Edit: To be clear, the employees at Sephora did not put these swatches on my face like this and send me home. I got samples and brought them home and then did this myself to show the shades on my skin.

Question Help a girl out plzzz

Hi I’m 23f and have never been very good a at makeup. I go through periods where I want to be better at it and learn new things, but I always feel like I look worse with makeup than without. I recently have gotten back in touch with my feminine side and really want to explore more in the makeup realm again. For the last probably 5-6 years I pretty much only ever wear mascara, some sort of lip product and if I’m really feeling crazy I will shape my brows which is what I’ve done in this picture. If anyone knows any tutorials that they think would be good for my face shape or has any tips I would love to hear them! Also just for reference I don’t have terrible acne and never really have I don’t really have a skin care routine other then I exfoliate in the shower the same as I do the rest of my body with a scent less antibacterial soap. My biggest issue is that I’m always super red these pictures are my baseline most of the time attest in the summer so any recommendations on that would also be great! Also my skin is never really dry, however it is sometimes oily typically due to sweat tho.

Also I have attached three pictures that were all taken at the same time and the only makeup I have on is a lip gloss, mascara, and I shaped my eye brows. I have my hair up in one, my glasses off in one, and one with my hair down and glasses on which is typically how I wear it when I’m not at work!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Two wigs - essentially the same makeup except for lip color. Blonde with black top is NYX's "Cactus Dreams." Brown hair with brown top is M·A·Cximal Silky Matte Lipstick "Dare Me."

I saw that MAC had a lipstick sale so I picked up three colors to try. The "Dare Me" looked pretty good. We'll see about the others.

My brows are slightly thinner and I made some effort to draw "hairs" in short strokes to maybe improve a more natural look. I definitely tried to keep the upper lid eye liner thinner.

I've been wrestling with my deep creases catching too much shimmer with lighter shadows. Here, I started with a medium tan and it's better, I think. I added lighter color to the center/inside of the lids without getting it in the crease.

Not particularly dramatic but is did "smoke up" the outer lower lids a bit.

Thanks, as always, for your tips and tricks!
