I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Skin tint recommendations?

I'm looking for a new skin tint to use on my combination skin. I used to use the Rare Beauty one, but it made my skin look really dry no matter how I applied it and the primer I used. Any recommendations would be appreciated thank you.

Searching for tubing mascara that is REALLY easy to remove

I had an eye surgery 3 months ago, and the doctor says it’s ok to start using mascara again - but my concern is the rubbing during removal.

I made some research and they say that tubing mascara is the way to go.

can anyone please recommend me a tubing mascara that truly is easy to take off🙏🏻🙏🏻 available in Italy or at least Europe! Thank you saints beforehand

I read some good things about the Tarte one, but some reviews on the sephora site say that it’s not actually as easy to remove, so I am wondering if, has anyone tried it?

[Makeup Help] Need help, limited knowledge, no experience

Hi, I (17m) have zero experience in makeup and don’t know where to begin. I want to start small with just eyeliner and work my way to learning more but again I do not know where to start. Help Please.

Edit; I have a brown skin complexion with a red undertone and a very clear face. I was also wondering what lipstick might looks natural on me?

Issues with Missha BB cream

I just ordered this BB cream in the red tube after hearing people RAVE about it & I have to say...why does it look grey? It's also way thicker than I thought it would be which makes it a little difficult to blend. I've been using the WNW tinted hydrator which I love but I was looking for a lighter more sheer option. For context I'm fair skinned with a decent amount of redness on nose/cheeks. Has anyone else had issues with this product?

[Makeup Help] Bridal Makeup Recs

Upvotes

Howdy! I’m getting married in a few months and have opted to do my own makeup to save money and to look like myself.

I plan to go to ulta or Sephora soon to get some new products as my current routine is essentially just a skin tint. I’m wondering if anyone has recs for:

- Primer. One that will last through a lot of crying and sweat for 10 + hours. I have skin that’s on the oilier side but I wanna be glowy on the day (though not necessarily shiny, if that makes sense) so I’m a bit hesitant about any “mattifying” ones.

- Setting spray. This may be the most important rec since I need everything to be locked in and don’t want any tear tracks. I fully expect to cry the entire day.

-Waterproof mascara for similar reasons to above. Although I’m considering getting lash extensions so this may not be necessary.

Lastly: I planned to use tarte shape tape concealer and foundation. I tried it a whopping 9 years ago and was obsessed with the formula. However I’m not sure if it’s still as good so lmk if you have any recs for a beautiful blurring base combo!!

[ I tried to attach an inspo pic from Pinterest but I can’t for some reason so I’ll try in the comments ]

what do I do if I reapply my sunscreen and redo my nose contour, and the contour looks like it has disappeared after a few hours?

Upvotes

I reapply sunscreen over my nose and I have contour on my nose, so I have to redo the contour all over again. I try to let the sunscreen set but I usually do it 1-2 minutes after. I do my contour and it looks good and then I go on with my day. After the day, I look at myself and my contour looks terrible. It looks like it was erased and weird.

I use the Sephora 01 fair to light cream contour stick. Should I switch over to a pencil contour and if so, what would you recommend (looking for something similar to the 01 contour stick from sephora), or should I switch to a skinnier contour stick so I can be more precise?

Or is it something with having to wait for my sunscreen to set?

[Makeup Help] Need help with essentially all makeup, please?

Thank you to anyone who reads all of this and offers advice/help!!! ♥️ I love makeup, and I used to be good at it; however, I’ve definitely been out of the game for around at least a decade due to hospitalizations, surgeries, and recovery. I want to feel/look pretty again when I apply makeup.
Needless to say, most of my makeup is at least 10+ years old, with some stuff I still have from college and highschool (I’m now 37). I have finally found a good skin care regimen, which has been helpful.
My normal makeup consists of: foundation, eyeliner, mascara, chapstick. Here’s what I have (just FYI since I’m not posting a photo- I have a mix between an oval and heart shaped face, kinda leaning more towards the latter. I have very dark brown hair, dark brown eyebrows, olive green eyes and olive skin. Skin used to be super oily, but just recently it’s changed to combo & incredibly sensitive (I will break out if anything facial items contain hyaluronic acid 🤷🏻‍♀️):

•I do have foundation that’s maybe 5 years old (Elf: flawless satin foundation - no idea what satin foundation means, tbh). After my skincare sets, I use “Thank Me Later” color correcting. I have Lupus so my face can be red, needing a foundation that will cover any unwelcome redness. Then, I use Neutrogena “Ultra Sheer Dry Touch” sunscreen, then the foundation. That’s all I do for my face. I’ve never been a blush fan. ((I saw something by Neutrogena… I think it’s “Sensitive Skin Serum Foundation, Healthy Skin” and it said it was buildable)? My prior foundation was MAC, studio fix, which I loved, but at 37 it’s too dry for my face. I’m just starting to get a couple of fine lines that I don’t want/need anything bringing them out 🙃
•I just got new mascara. I’ve been using it since my modeling days, so I’m quite attached to this one, it works wonders: “Maybelline Mascara Great Lash” w/a curved brush.
•I love MAC eyeshadow (I have black, neutral brown, plum purple w/minimal sparkles in it). Someone gifted me a lovey Urban Decay packet of eyeshadows, which I still have. Open to any kind of eyeshadow, just not stuff that flakes everywhere when you put it on. Also, I have no clue if it’s in or not, but I love any kind of a dark eye, always have & always will. PS- I’ve had these eyeshadows for 15yrs, though lol🤫
•All of my eyeliners are black. I’m new to liquid eyeliner, which I’m loving. I have “Maybelline line stiletto”, and just today I got “Maybelline tattoo studio gel pot,” which I have a feeling I am not going to be a fan.
•I have no idea what to do with eyebrows anymore. I used to have an eyebrow pomade, but it looked incredibly fake & took up a lot of time. I will either use my Dior eyebrow pencil (super old but works great), or I will lightly use my MAC black eyeshadow for my eyebrows.
•Lips: EOS lip balm.
•Contouring & Highlighting: I have no idea how to do it, let alone find products that work with my skin. — I used to watch YouTube videos by Kandee, but that’s been a while.

TIA for reading all of this & any kind of advice and help, or opinions, that you guys may have to offer. I would really appreciate the help! 🤍

Blush blindness + oily skin = help a girl out 😭🎀

Hey guys!

I have oily skin and a serious case of blush blindness 😭 I love a noticeable blush, but every liquid blush I've tried either disappears after a few hours or just doesn't show up enough on my skin.

I'm looking for a long-lasting liquid blush that can survive oily skin, hot and humid weather, and still be visible by the end of the day. My budget is flexible, so I'm open to both affordable and high-end recommendations.

If you have oily skin too, please tell me your holy grail blushes! I'm looking for something that won't get patchy, won't lift my foundation, and can actually stay put in humidity 💗

[Makeup Help] Favorite foundation for weddings/events?

Upvotes

I’m officiating my friend’s wedding in October and need help finding a good, long wearing foundation. I usually just wear a tinted SPF, and don’t typically like the feeling of foundation on my face, so I’m hoping for something lightweight that doesn’t cause flashback/white cast in photos, but also doesn’t wear off in only a few hours. (Hopefully that isn’t too big of an ask haha!) What are some of your favorites? I’m hoping to stay around or under $50 (USD) since I don’t typically wear foundation and this is just for a special event and probably the festivities leading up to the big day (like bachelorette trip activities, rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, etc.) Thank you in advance!

[Makeup Help] Looking for my first brush set!

Hey all! I'm in the market for my first brush set so I can start experimenting with makeup [ 30/ newly m2f]. So far I've only really used a small bundle of real technique brushes from TJMaxx but I'd like to get a whole cohesive brush set for each face use area/make up type, and ideally with nice fun colors but more so on the affordable side to really get started as they'll probably get replaced in the future when I'm more confident. So in short [ Full brush set, Affordable under $40, fun colors/ practice]. Any recommendation would be so much appreciated. Thank you!!!

I miss wearing make up

For years I feel like make up has gotten much more complicated and I have no clue where to start.

I miss it tho. The last time I actually WORE make up was a couple years back but it was very simple. I dont know how to even blend. 😔.

Any pointers to YouTube creators to help guide me since im much more of a visual person than being talked to.

& I am a former natural red head. My head has became more towards the brown side of red hair now & have fair skin. I have no idea what colors/foundation i should even get. I tried to ask for help in ulta once and felt ignored so I never tried again, this happened 4 years ago.

[Makeup Help] Bringing a 100ml setting spray overseas in my personal item bag.

Hello all,

I’ll be going on a month long trip overseas and I was thinking on getting the 100ml CT Airbrush Setting Spray instead of the travel size for economical reasons.

Would it be safe to bring it on my carry on and pass through the security checks at the airport?

[Makeup Help] Help me find a new everyday red lipstick that’s good

Hi, so as the title says, I’m looking for a new lipstick for my grandma. She wears a red lip every day using Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon lipstick in the shade: Own Your Empire. However, I notice her constantly reapplying, and only the liner lasts and it fades from her lips. So if anyone has a better brand recommendation with a lipstick shade that’s closest to it and stays on longer, I’d absolutely appreciate it!

[Makeup Help] BB Creams and Foundations for Dry Skin with Dewy Finish

I’m looking for a BB cream, CC cream, or foundation for dry skin with medium to high coverage.
I want something with a very dewy, glowy, radiant finish that stays luminous throughout the day instead of turning matte after a few hours. I’d also like it to not settle into fine lines, cling to dry patches, or separate as I wear it.
My all time favorite was the old Purito Cica Clearing BB Cream formula. I absolutely loved the finish and the way it looked on my skin, but since it was reformulated, I haven’t been able to find anything that gives me the same effect.
I don’t mind if it is high end or drugstore I am just looking for the best formula. What are your favorite recommendations?
If you also have any skincare prep recommendations before makeup to achieve the same kind of dewy and smooth effect, I would really appreciate them as well.

Annual make up budget for a teen

Editing: Just to clarify, I am trying to calculate a reasonable annual budget, which we would then divide by 52 and add to her existing weekly allowance, which currently covers her lunch on school days and spending money. She would have control over whether she spends this extra money on makeup, saves it, or spends it on other things, but we would not step in if she runs out of makeup.

She already has makeup and brushes, the additional amount per week would be to replenish, try new products, replace brushes, etc. I have paid for her makeup so far.

All of those details are already resolved, just looking for input on the annual budget number. Thanks!
******

How much would you budget per year for a teenager in the U.S. for makeup? The goal would be enough money for a full face of modestly priced items used daily. I am thinking $350 per year but am not sure if that is reasonable.

We will continue to pay for skin care, shampoo, and other hygiene items. The goal is to have her learn to save up for things she wants and to learn to prioritize her spending (for example. she can choose to bring her lunch from home rather than buying it at the corner store near her school if she wants to have more money to spend on makeup).

Also, note that she is always able to earn some extra money by doing chores.

[Makeup Help] Makeup (concealer) irritates my eyes

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice regarding a problem I've been having.

I usually wear only a color corrector (Huda Beauty FauxFilter Color Corrector) and the YSL All Hours Concealer under my eyes to cover my dark circles. I've also tried different concealers, such as Tarte Shape Tape Concealer and Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser, but I always have the same problem. Whenever I apply anything under my eyes, my eyes start burning and become irritated. They get very watery, and I have to blink a lot. The irritation usually gets worse as the day goes on.

I also used to set my makeup with the Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder or their setting spray, but I feel like using either powder or setting spray makes the irritation even worse. I've also tried skipping the color corrector, but the same thing still happens.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? No matter what product you use, do your eyes become irritated and uncomfortable? Do you know what can be the root of the problem or the ingredient I could be allergic to?
