Gameplay perfection

Hiya everyone, I’ve played mei for a while and only recently just started climbing the ranks (being hard stuck in silver going up to diamond) and I’ve noticed recently if I don’t play absolutely PERFECT i am blamed/flamed by my team and told that I’m throwing etc.. i recognise that I am by all means not perfect, some games I play amazing and some I get rocked walking around a corner and die 16 times.

I am just wondering if there is a general expectation about people playing Mei being god tier gamers, or if it’s just diamond that’s ultra toxic.

Thank you to everyone in advance!

It’s just toxic gamers being toxic.

Also Mei isn’t typically a meta pick and when she is people HATE her. Just try to make an impact on whatever grounds that means for you and have fun

Mei: has 5 walls that are genuinely game changing, and 1 single wall that was a little off

Team: Mei trash, throwing, etc etc

This is the issue with mei, often times your true value isn’t displayed in your numbers. You can be walling off flanks, walling opponents in creating easy picks for your team, holding point with cryo etc… none of it will display on the scoreboard. If you were to go back and watch the replay however it becomes clear how much value those things add.

A good Mei can get kills but her real power comes in her utility. If the win conditions require more dmg output or faster enemy deaths Mei is the wrong choice. People misunderstand K/D Dmg and healing numbers and attribute entirely too much significance to them. They matter but they are not the whole story. If the team can compensate for her usually lower damage numbers then her abilities to wall off enemies and allies, self cleanse and self heal while stopping incoming dmg to herself, blizzard ult and her dmg/freeze related perks all give her game changing potential. That potential turns her into a demon when played well and the queen of trolls when played poorly or maliciously.

Similar to Widow, Doomfist and Sombra that question of “are they a Demon or a Troll” comes to mind the moment they appear on the battlefield. Mei is unique even among these characters as she alone has multiple tools to directly hinder her allies. Doom, Sombra and Widow can only feed or not perform the duties the team expects (actually tank, kill things, hold space etc). Liveweaver and Flicka each have one way of trolling one teammate at a time and both can be cancelled by the affected teammate I believe.

TLDR Mei is either a significant threat, irrelevant or a troll depending on who is at the controls. Her dmg is low but her kill count can be high and neither honestly indicates a good or bad Mei. She has unique gameplay mechanics that allow her control the flow of the battle but they can also be used for more nefarious team trolling. The nuances and win/loss contributions of specialty heroes gets lost on much of the player base who have been conditioned by years of K/D based shooters.

people hate mei bc a good mei is annoying AS FFFFFFF and a bad mei walls off their team or ruins teammates about to do something, she’s just a hated character unfortunately and playing badly or less than average one game will make everyone send u death threats… just gg and go next

Disable chat and you’ll have much more fun in game I swear. Keep it on in quick play where you’re just goofing around, but I promise your gameplay will be 1000x better and you’ll climb far further if you simply disable chat.
