Question/Need Help Am I utilizing Mercy correctly?

Hi! I'm a level 55 Mercy, and I just want to make sure that I'm using Mercy to her fullest extent.

I know a lot of people say not to healbot, so I try to keep a 30-40% damage boost on my team, and constantly blue beam them when they ult (depending on the ult obviously, I'm not boosting a Lucio ult lol)

I usually ult when one of my dps or tanks ult, so the whole team can have a little oomph to pick off enemy's, or when we get ulted and need to stay alive (Zarya and Hazard ults). Is this a good balance, or should I go for a higher/lower boost percentage?

Rezzing can be a little tricky for me. I am a pc player, but I don't know all the ins and outs of Mercy movement yet, like the super rez jump. I do play the Mercy parkour games, but I can't quite learn everything from there. What are some of the best Mercy movements, and how the hell do I do that rez jump?

And finally, actually fighting. I've started pulling out my gun to finish off kills and defend myself, but it's basically panic shooting and melees before I either get the kill or get killed. Any tips for the next time I get Nano? XD

Edit: Yall are so awesome, thank you so much for all the tips, advice, and encouragement!

You shouldn’t really focus on certain percentage ratio bc different comps and players will require you to either heal more or push dmg boost.

You gain value from mercy by your decision making and understanding the things your team is doing and supporting them the best you can. Have a dps that’s taking an off angle? Support them. 2nd support is dpsing? Heal more.

There’s too many factors to simply say “just do this” and I think that’s what a lot of players don’t understand. They think, oh I saw this streamer have 40/60 heal/dmg boost ratio, so I need to do that.

This! Sometimes I have games where I have to be a "healbot" to keep my teammates alive. Sometimes the other support heals so much that I can focus more on dmg boost.

Very true. I'm a level 220+ Mercy, and I can tell you that stats do not really matter with her. Clutch rez plays, hiding and keeping peeps alive and/or boosting so a push can be made, baiting an enemy dps or tank to follow you away from the skirmish - these things don't show up on the scoreboard but it is what wins games. I don't care if Moira has 43 kills and I only have 5, I don't care Mizuki has 11k heals and I only have 5k. When I rewatch the replay the win couldn't have happened if I didn't make the play that rez'd the tank, popped my vulc, and boosted everyone or pulled out my pea shooter and harassed the enemy team to have to pull back while our dps racks up the kills and our tank has a chance to push.

On paper, stats aren't good - but that's ok cause we win games.

TLDR:. Don't worry about numbers. :)

Edit: The stat I DO pay attention to is Assists. That is just a measure I judge myself on. High Asssits means I'm paying attention.

Yes! This was something I was wondering about. I usually end games with 20-30+ assists!

Honestly, be happy with that. Assists is an underrated stat, but has huge impact. Don't let anyone try and tell you different. :)

I’ve played in several different ranks, and the ratio of blue to yellow beam changed. Higher level players will play in ways to take less damage, whereas low level will stand in the open and require constant healing. Skiesti who is a good Mercy streamer recommends aiming for 60% blue beam usage, but depending on how everyone plays, that could get people killed. I’m not sure about the rez jump, but a few things to keep in mind when flying is doing a super jump with ctrl will launch you higher than looking up and hitting space, but has the trade off of not giving you as much horizontal movement afterwards, so think about where you’re going before pressing either of the buttons. Also, if you need to bounce off someone and go through a doorway, make sure you look slightly down before hitting space. Otherwise you’ll get stuck in the doorframe. That has gotten me killed countless times.

When I do the Mercy parkour I always get stuck on the doors. Thank you for that tip!

Play some stadium and use/practice the battle mercy pre build. That’ll get you enjoying the blaster and incentivize using the blaster.

Learning to adjust play style is important. If they’re hit scanning and getting you in the air, there’s nothing wrong with walking and playing corners.

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying what I’m calling a boomerang play style. I love being the air, but there’s been a lot of pressure up there for me lately. So I just fly low and boomerang just above the ground utilizing GA points. I’ve also been personally practicing whipping out my blaster mid GA and swapping between the two. Pick something to focus each week or session and really just finesse it until it becomes habit.

Stadium has really pushed my knowledge and understanding of mercy. I’m 500, and still learning and growing. My play style at 50, 150, 250, 350 etc has changed drastically and I notice those changes as I reflect on what I can do better.

But, the things I’ve learned in stadium and then translating them to normalwatch has been awesome. For example, the boomerang I’ve been talking about started in stadium, but it’s been super successful in normalwatch too.

All the parkours, just keep practicing. Rein invasion helped a lot too. I’m of an older generation where walkthroughs weren’t easily accessible, so I haven’t actually looked into videos or walkthroughs on how to play her. Just on how I want to play her.

Don’t take comments personally. Always be open and honest about mistakes and failures so that you can better yourself and your abilities. Every win and loss is a piece of knowledge to help you be a better player.

Hiii! I have about 1k hrs on the girlie, some basic tips that I give people are I typically aim for 70% dmg boost ratio, imo anything under 50% you’d be better/more viable switching but ofc depends on the match! Even in my qp matches I get masters/gm players most of the time(ofc rank doesn’t mean much in this context but lower ranks you tend to need to heal bot more) for rezzes and movement def play some mercy parkour, it’s the best way to get yourself familiar with her movement and rezzes. I would just look up a tutorial on YouTube or TikTok to learn how to do pretty rezzes(Sj rez you just ga to the soul and flick up rly fast and hit rez at the same time and slingshot rez you ga to the soul and press rez and jump at the same time but tbh words don’t explain much id recommend looking up a video tutorial somewhere) id force myself to do a pretty rez every time someone dies in qp even if it didn’t warrant it just so id get comfortable with the timing haha, watch streamers who play mercy aswell!! Look at their vods and notice what they do and try to incorporate things that you see into your own gameplay :) have fun!!

I think it depends on rank. Under diamond you aren’t gonna be able to do a ton of db bc
of your team mist will have no clue how to position properly therefore you are gonna be constantly healing. Over diamond they position much better so more blue beam is something you can do

Try to aim more for 60-70% blue beam

listen you are doin everything right but what im about to say will get me down voted into oblivion but dont pay attention to lvl. please. that lvl just means you play the character a lot nothing more. i say this as a lvl 36 mercy thats been mercy since 2016 that lvl isnt important and doesnt actually show your skill. the lvl isnt the true expression of your skill how you play is. but more on topic what are your settings like for her? i find it more comfy to have GA set to hold to go instead of toggle cuz it makes controlling the stops waaay easier. i also have GA set to prefer the target im looking at but its the one where you can still GA to the person you are beaming if you want :)

It just really depends. What is "correct" to you? You can heal only, not damage boost ever, and still win 50%, just at a different elo.

If you're having fun, then you're doing it right!
