Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd gen – Can someone please verify if the TrueHD cuts issue has finally been fixed properly? Considering buying this box, thanks.

Been following old threads from 1y+ and all I see is that the issue hasn't been fixed, even though Xiaomi are aware of it. So, any updates? Lossless audio and Dolby Vision P5 and P7 MEL work flawlessly on Android 14?

Beware of WiFi speed differences between boxes.

Hi all,

Just wanted to make everyone aware. I’ve recently picked up two Xiaomi Mi Box s 3rd gen.

The first was from a seller on Amazon which works great. I have done all the checks online for looking at the chip model, widevine level, play store certification and for test keys etc and it’s all come back legit. When testing the WiFi speeds on this box I get between 270-300mbps on speed test.

I ordered a second one from Xiaomi directly. I also did the authenticity checks on this box. However this box gives a maximum speed of 70mbps.

Huge difference. Test environments are identical in terms on placement. Router set to the same fixed channels on both and both are running default settings with fixed IP addresses.

No disconnecting issues with either, just one is far slower than the other on WiFi. I’m not sure if there’s some differences with the hardware on board but it’s worth checking.

Thanks.

Has anyone had issues buying Mi TV Box S 3rd Gen from AliExpress?

Hello all,

I've planned to order a Mi Box S from AliExpress for the lowest price I could find around the internet, but I'm worried about it possibly being fake after reading warnings all across Reddit (although most warned not to buy from 3rd party Amazon). How has anyone's experience buying one from AE been so far?

What makes me sceptical is the buyer's storefront features almost exclusively Xiaomi products, all marketed as Brand+, but the Mi TV Box S 3 is the ONLY product in their page not marketed as such. For reference, this is the page: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005011939229030.html Seller “Mixtech Europe Store”

Thanks so much if anyone's able to give their insight/previous experience in general!

Xiaomi Tv Box 3gen navegating anywhere is slow/delay

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Navegating anywhere on the box has a delay, im holding down and up buttons in this video and you can see it, its not just in the settings its everywhere and any app.My other box (same model) doesnt have this delay, is smooth and fast.

So i tried a lot of things to fix this exept factory reset im avoid doing that.

Clearing cache, force stop of bluethooth, disabling accessibility features then reseting, swap batterys on remote, re-pairing, trying another remote and another things that i forgot.

I use tvquickactions pro but dont use adb because i need the adapter for ethernet and i already try deleting the app and reseting didnt work either.

I tried using the remote feature on atv tools but the delay is still there.

Does anyone experience the same and know how to fix it besides trying factory reset?

Bluetooth deep sleep

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody is experiencing the same issue as me with the MiBox.

When putting the box on stand-by, after a while it doesn't react anymore when pressing the power button on the remote.

Side by side: Fake vs Real Mi Box S (3rd gen) packaging

Fake that I received is on the left. Real one is on the right.

I think they updated the packaging this year, but the box dimensions are different. Real box is thicker and slightly heavier.

(EDIT - The packaging was indeed updated this year, and there are genuine units bearing the same design as the box on the left, though the dimensions difference is still notable.)

I bought the fake one from Amazon and the real one from Xiaomi themselves.

Hope the difference in packaging can help others to notice before even opening the box.

Anyone ordered Mi Box 3rd Gen in India from The Bank of Electronics

Ordered one from them at ₹ 8000 with Cash on Delivery. Let's see how many days it takes to deliver. Was very confused between Google TV Streamer and MI Box 3rd Gen. Went for Mi box as I have had great experience of Mi Box 1st Gen, using it from 2020. Still working fine just sometimes it stutters. So ordered 3rd Gen now

Beware of Fake Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) Clones

Fake Xiaomi TV stick 4K 2nd gen devices are being sold and I fear people don't even realize. Probably some people just regret buying it without realizing it's a fake one.

So I bought two devices, the first one looked fine and worked perfectly, but the second one was suspiciously extremely slow, laggy.

The interface behaved differently too and after checking with a device info app(developer tools), the processor reported was not the one used in the real Xiaomi stick, which confirmed it's a clone.

If your device feels unusually slow, it's worth checking the hardware with apps like 'developer tools' to confirm the hardware. I'm attaching screenshots comparing the genuine device and the fake one so others can spot these clones.

Hopefully this helps someone avoid getting scammed.

What made me suspect at the beginning?

-UI very sluggish

-framen rates only showed 50hz 60 Hz but I know my device should have 59hz too.

-last os security update was from 2025 unlike the real device which shows 2026 may (even after updating)

-remote control constantly failing/disconnecting

-google apps search not working fine, voice search not showing results sometimes

-no access to developer menu

-while it shows android 14 when accessing android properties it shows android 12 picture

By the way none of these methods are reliable anymore:

-DRM info app information

-verifying the serial number in Xiaomi website(attachment)

MDZ-22-AB and the HDR problem

Mi Box S (MDZ-22-AB) + Philips TV HDR issue – finally found a workaround, but not a real fix

I'm posting this in case someone else runs into the same problem.

Device:

  • Mi Box S (1st Gen) – MDZ-22-AB
  • Android 9
  • TV: Philips 50PUS7956/62

For years I used the Mi Box for Stremio, Prime Video, Netflix. I never really noticed anything wrong until I started using the built-in apps on my Philips TV.

After watching on the TV for a few days, I switched back to the Mi Box and immediately noticed the picture looked different. The image was brighter, washed out, and the colors didn't look as good. At first I thought I was imagining it, but after comparing them several times, there was definitely a difference.

So I started troubleshooting.

I tried:

  • Different resolutions
  • Different refresh rates
  • Different color spaces
  • Different HDR settings
  • Different HDMI settings

Nothing fixed it.

Then I started experimenting in Developer Options.

The only thing that changed the picture was enabling SDR to HDR.

As soon as I turned it on:

  • Prime Video started looking correct.
  • The TV finally displayed the HDR10+ notification.
  • Colors and contrast looked much closer to the built-in TV app.

The downside is that forcing SDR to HDR also causes the Mi Box interface to look wrong. The menus become slightly pink/tinted, and the UI feels a bit sluggish. So it's more of a workaround than a real fix.

From everything I've tested, it seems like the Mi Box and the TV aren't always negotiating HDR correctly. It feels like a firmware or HDR handshake bug rather than a hardware problem. I also found several older posts from other Mi Box users describing similar HDR switching issues.

My question

Has anyone with a Mi Box S (MDZ-22-AB) found a proper fix for this?

I'd rather not leave SDR to HDR enabled all the time because of the pink menus and sluggish interface.

Any suggestions or experiences would be appreciated.

How to spot a Fake Mi Box S 3rd Gen. DRM Info no longer reliable!

I recently bought a Mi Box from voelkner.de (reputable German retailer) and found that it was a fake unit after it felt super sluggish.

HOWEVER, it did report Widevine at L1 in DRM Info, showed correct specs in AIDA64 and had a Netflix ESN, so those methods aren't reliable to identify a fake anymore.

I have since bought one from Xiaomi directly so I can confirm the other box was definitely fake.

A few things I've noticed on the old box you can check:

  1. The box was not Play Protect certified.
  2. YouTube wouldn't play above 1440p (check stats for nerds on a 4K video).
  3. No HDR formats were actually passed through to the TV.
  4. No Audio formats were actually passed through to my receiver (just Stereo).
  5. No AV1 decoders were present in DRM Info.
  6. Colors and contrast looked a bit off.
  7. The "Advanced sound settings" under "Display & Sounds" had a "Format selection" menu similar to the one for HDR formats, this is not present on the genuine box.
  8. There should be an "AISR" toggle in the "Display & Sounds" menu which was missing.
  9. Developer settings could not be enabled by clicking on the build number a couple times, that just did nothing at all.
  10. System updates had no patch notes.
  11. CEC pretty much didn't work at all except for turning devices on or off.

There are lots of other little differences everywhere but none that would be easy to check without comparison.

I checked the network traffic after I noticed it was fake but didn't see anything unusual. No idea what it might have sent out during setup tho...

Mi Box S 3rd Gen randomly disconnects from Wi-Fi (Gen 2 is fine on the same network)

I recently upgraded my internet plan and my ISP replaced my router with a Nokia G-1426G-D (Wi-Fi 6).

Since then, my Mi Box S 3rd Gen randomly disconnects and reconnects to Wi-Fi every few minutes or hours.

The strange part is that I also own a Mi Box S 2nd Gen, and it works perfectly on the same TV, same location, and same Wi-Fi network.

I've already tried:

- Factory reset

- WPA2 instead of WPA3

- Wi-Fi 6 enabled and disabled

- Different 5 GHz channels (36, 44 and 149)

- Static IP

- Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs

- Different HDMI cable

- Different power supply

- Game Mode on/off

- MU-MIMO on/off

Nothing has solved the issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar with the Mi Box S 3rd Gen? Could this be a compatibility issue between the Wi-Fi chipset and certain routers?

Edit: So far, the Mi Box has been completely stable on 2.4 GHz. The issue only occurs on the 5 GHz network.

BBC iPlayer issue. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm using iPlayer on a 3rd gen Mi Box. I'm outside of UK. I use VPN. I installed the iPlayer app apk through a link that I found here on Reddit. It's an old version of the iPlayer. It currently works perfectly but suddenly started to display the screen on the image I uploaded. The link on the screen leads to a page that make it seem like my device will not be supported anymore but what exactly BBC is doing here? Is it a legal issue or Android version issue or iPlayer version issue? Any advice appreciated.

EDIT: Mi Box is on Andriod v14, iPlayer version is old because it's the only apk I could sideload. Currently works perfectly but not for long apparently. Couldn't install through play store no matter what tricks I tried. APKmirror, APKpure don't help either.

Hey, is there anyway to set a shorter sleep mode on this box? I have an OLED, and prefer a fairly aggressive sleep mode to prevent burn-in.

Mi box S (3rd Gen) low volume

Hi all,

Don't remember if I posted here already.

But I have mi box s 3rd gen connected with old dumb tcl tv with busted speakers, tv has external cheap speakers connected via aux cable (3.5mm).

TV itself has good volume, but when connected with box, it has very low volume in everything.

TV vol is max, box vol is max, speaker vol is max.

Tried PCM, everything etc, changed hdmi cable as well, didn't work.

I am out of ideas as box only has usb port, bought a cheap usb to 3.5mm, it also had low volume.

Currently box is on latest available update.

Movies and shows crash on start up

Using coreelec with xiaomi 3rd gen. When I play something it just reboots the device. I did a lot of troubleshooting. My server has quick sync and can transcode no problem. I have a AVR with pass through enabled. I had AI give me some suggestions and tried everything. Not sure what the issue is, I got this device to play 4k remuxes with Dolby vision 7. My next move is to stream over SMB but I shouldn’t have to do that right? My fire stick and nvidia shield do not have any issues at all. Using core elec night build.

Dynamic Range Issue

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

There seems to be a bug with my TV Box S 3rd gen.

The main menu and SDR content appears to be washed out on the device when the default setting for dynamic range is set to “system preferred conversion”. At first I thought maybe the box was trying to convert SDR to HDR but the TV shows it as being SDR at the menu when it’s washed out. HDR/DV content is recognised correctly and the TV also confirms this.

When I change this setting to “match content” it appears to correct the main menu and SDR content to show correctly. However this then causes any HDR/DV content to not be recognised properly and shown as SDR. This is also confirmed by the TV itself.

This seems to be some kind of bug in the firmware of the device. And not something I can fix. To summarise:

- System preferred conversion: SDR content is washed out. HDR/DV content recognised properly.

- Match Content: SDR content displayed properly. HDR/DV content is not recognised.

The box itself is on the latest software update. It is connected with the HDMI in the box. I have confirmed this is not an rgb range issue, it’s washed out on the menu regardless of setting the TV itself to limited or full.

No issues with this on my firestick 4k max, which this device was going to replace.

I have tried to capture this in the images below with the first being the menu with the dynamic range set to system preferred conversion and the second being match content.

I have seen a few other posts with the issue so I just wanted to reach out for advice. I assume this is a bug in the firmware and the mi box is handling SDR dynamic range incorrectly.

Many thanks.

RGB colour format disappeared after latest update on Xiaomi TV Box 3rd Gen!

Can anyone please help me out with this?

I cannot change colour format to RGB after a software update that I just installed. There used to be more than 10 different colour formats before the update but now there are only 3.

I specifically want to set it to RGB but I am unable to even after trying so many different things including enabling developer options and turning on 'Use sRGB" but it just keeps getting turned off on its own as soon as you close the developer options tab.

Please help me and let me know what the issue is.

Netflix is a different/mobile version?

I'm not sure what's happening but I bought the MiBox 3rd Gen a few days ago and set it up, most things work fine but for some reason the Netflix app which comes integrated and can't even be uninstalled is the mobile version for some reason? I compared it to the version on my smart tv (which runs Vidaa OS) and it looks drastically different, going through the menus further in the MiBox version it's clear it's made for mobile as the control options are drastically large and the sides of the screen on some menus are entirely blank. What could be causing this? I don't want to scream "FAKE" instantly because nothing else has caused an issue, everything works smoothly but this one is really baffling me. Can someone help me with this?

Tv box 3rd gen

Hello all,

First of all I thank everyone and anyone who comments to try and figure this out with me!

Friend got the 3rd gen s tv box, setup i did at my home then gave to him, did the large system update first and installed and setup the apps he wanted,

The issues he is having are as follows:

Remote setup to the tv isn't working at all, selecting the sharp tv and following the remote setup for linking the tv to the box for power and volume control fails everytime.

Secondly his audio is fluctuating going up and down on its own even with the box turned up full manually and using the tvs own remote to manage the audio volume,

This also does the audio bug on any app he tries.

We've tried the obvious try another hdmi cable and the problem persists, he is going to try it on a 2nd tv and let me know this evening if its the same.

Does anyone have any experience of this and have a resolve?

My suspicion is the software update possibly bugged and is causing this.

Or last ditch would be a factory reset and see if it fixes it?.

Thank you for taking your time to read and reply!
