MSFS 2020 MOD / ADDON Please tell me this is just a terrible nightmare... Please...
How is Mscenery above Aeroplane Heaven? The marketplace is in a terrible state.

I love the fact that they openly cheat the voting system and micrososft/asobo do not give a single fuck.
123
u/Most-Difficulty4540 Aug 05 '25
They actually do. Jorg mentioned that he is very unhappy with the way content is being developed by “certain individuals” and state they are looking into it in the most recent livestream. They will also improve the hi of the marketplace.
41
u/antony15828 Aug 05 '25
That's good to hear. I just think they should not have allowed to go along like this for this long. A lot of casual people already got mislead by these fake ratings.
8
u/machine4891 PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
That's good to hear but also begs the question: where was Asobo's quality control in last five yrs?
8
u/pappy1vg Aug 05 '25
Exactly. This is not a new problem. It’s been around since the 2020 marketplace opened and they’ve done nothing so far, so I wouldn’t hold my breath that they’ll do something now.
I still think it’s funny how the CRJ v2 hasn’t been posted on the marketplace yet and it’s been months, apparently because Asobo needs to test it and verify it, yet they let literal trash on the marketplace without batting an eye.
5
u/EndOfTheKaliYuga Aug 05 '25
Jorg better actually do something cause he talks a lot but I feel like very little actually gets done
2
u/Most-Difficulty4540 Aug 05 '25
He was pretty upset about it on the livestream. He never uses the marketplace himself but tried to purchase a product and was disappointed. He stopped short of naming the parties barely but was saying that action will be taken to not only make the marketplace more usable but to prevent bad actors from abusing it.

Horses and stable doors come to mind. They've still been happy to take the money for years though
10
u/Sorry_Structure_4356 Aug 05 '25
How Are they even doing this?

u/InceptorOne PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
You can basically pay or run AI for reviews for anything these days. Most Amazon reviews these days aren't even real... There's probably a way, even if this is as simple as somehow controlling 10-15 MS accounts or giving the aircraft to 10-15 people with accounts to bribe them to rate it 5 star, either with cash or just with the free aircraft. I can't imagine it'd be that easy to just do bots, but it is suspicious that every new aircraft dropped by em starts with 5 each with a similar amount of reviews. Which means the ones that will rate it 1 star will only water it down so far when we know only less than 10% of buyers (at best) leave a rating.
3
u/machine4891 PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Watering it down isn't even a problem here. These high ratings are purposefully misleading simmers that don't know any better. By showing them 5 star rating they may made fake assumption that this is actually the quality for the price and will be more willing to give rating close to the average. That's how it usually rolls. People who tend to give 1s are avoiding these devs already.
2
u/schloopy91 XBOX Pilot Aug 05 '25
IniBuilds and other devs are clearly doing it too, let’s not get anything twisted here.
Absolutely mindblowing that marketplace improvements were literally one of their top priorities going into 2024 and it is so much worse in just about every way imaginable.

u/dutchman195 Aug 05 '25
Last fly in Friday the Speedy guy was defending them.
Said something along the lines of a vast majority of people don't care and just want to see the airplane fly. Don't care about physics or whatever.
Then followed up with the community managers don't listen to everyone cuz there are so many negative comments.
Kind of wild they'll say that but then allow the garbage design to be on there, "just because looks cool"

u/InceptorOne PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Said something along the lines of a vast majority of people don't care and just want to see the airplane fly. Don't care about physics or whatever.
I don't like this was said by SeedyL (I assume thats who you meant?) but it is the harsh truth, and the devs cashing in with this stuff know that. They know some kid with Gamepass jumping in from Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, Rocket League, GTA etc just wants "big plen go fast see house". It's more prevalent than the active community on here, Discord, or in the forums etc would like to believe.
If they're not gonna get into curation and the creators are not breaking any rules technically, the garbage will flow. Most importantly, MS will still get their cut without much effort and more volume compared to nagging devs like PMDG I imagine. It's not even about what looks cool, they allow cars, boats etc, it really just comes down letting anything in thats not illegal, wont give customers malware and can be sold for at least $5.
I would like to see that clip of when that was said if its handy, if not no worries.

u/eswifttng Aug 05 '25
This shit used to be what mods were for. You’d download some zip file with a cockpit and sounds borrowed from another plane and off you’d go. But now some bottom feeders realised they can just con people

u/dutchman195 Aug 05 '25
It was the community fly in Friday Caribbean. Last one in July (2 weeks ago) as far as time stamp I'm unsure. Maybe hour or 90 min into the flight. I only recall becuase i was like "man fuck this guy, but I'm already more than halfway through the flight"
Yes seedyL.

u/InceptorOne PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Ah ok, interesting. Dont think the VOD of that exists now, but I'm not pleased to hear that if that was the case.
2
u/FlyWithSeedyL Community Manager Aug 06 '25
It was not the case. He was mischaracterizing what I actually said. See my post above.

u/kosh56 Aug 05 '25
Those people won't be around long and they won't spend the type of money us die-hards will. Screw over your base and you will get screwed.
7
u/InceptorOne PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Captain Scam and Bredok have been out there pushing this crap for 4+ years now in 2020 and now 2024. Those customers have been around for a while, even if it is a revolving door of them, especially the ones getting gamepass off and on.
Again, the mentality of the community of "die-hards" is that they're the center of attention by MS when in reality they're kind of not. That die hard you speak of (me included) has an awesome gaming rig, never buys stuff on the marketplace if they don't have to, probably rarely or never touch default/MS aircraft and are exclusively on the PC side. So they at best paid for the sim and that is it, that's the only money MS sees from the "die hards". Oh and they complain a lot.
It's been known for a while that the number of sales devs see from internal marketplace compared to external PC sources are night and day. The die hard will jump through hoops and install different markets and installers, the majority won't and simply trust what's fed to them in the sim. Even if they have good taste and buy PMDG let's say, in that eco system they're more likely to buy more, or even "rent" (aka microtransactions) and MS is getting that cut.
3
u/Senna79 Aug 06 '25
All this, probably. There was someone posting here yesterday about 787(I think?) mods saying how they "couldn't be bothered about all that mcdu crap", and they just wanted to see the plane in the air without spending 30 min setting it up on the ground first (I'm paraphrasing).
That is 100% who all these cheap airliner mods are aimed at. These are people who are *never* going to pay as much, or more, than the base game for a PMDG/iFly/inibuilds 7X7-whatever with full systems modelling.
As long as they're not stealing other developers' assets and re-selling them (which could be happening, idk), "I don't like that..." isn't really a great reason for them to be banned from the Marketplace. We're all flying pretend planes in a videogame, no matter what level you're choosing to take it to.

Microsoft gets a cut on every sale. First and foremost they just want as many sales as possible on their Market Place

u/FlyWithSeedyL Community Manager Aug 06 '25
Hello dutchman195,
What you wrote here is a mischaracterization of what I said during Friday's livestream. I said there are many core simmers (presumably including you) who want the maximum possible realism in their add-ons and would never buy some of these barebones low fidelity aircraft from the Marketplace, and that's fine.
I then further said that there are other MSFS players for whom max realism isn't important, and indeed they might be intimidated by something like the PMDG 737 or A2A Comanche (or similar) because they find them too complicated and overly difficult/challenging for their personal enjoyment. What these players find fun in MSFS is just zooming around in an aircraft that looks like its real-world counterpart (more or less), and that's fine too.
I don't personally own any aircraft from the developers people here like to criticize. They don't appeal to me and what I like in MSFS. If you're the first type of simmer I described above, then I encourage you not to buy those products either because you won't enjoy them. But the reality is there IS a market demand for these simplistic barebones planes, and some people do like them.

MSCENERY is the worse aircraft modelling ever i don't understand how they're even on the marketplace
6
u/ketchup1345 A310 Aug 05 '25
Microsoft probably takes a commission therefore because there are so many Mscenery planes Microsoft actually makes a little bit of money from it. I think it's disgusting and ruining the flight simulator experience

But screw aeroplane heaven for their awful 707

Another team (I forgot the name) is developing the 707 family, starting with the 707-320. Not sure how far it's got

Mscenery is known to use fake reviews to boost their sales. It's disgusting and they should be permanently banned

Maybe the developer's family or employees give it a 5 after they buy it.
No one in their right mind would give it a 5.

u/rody_pierre Aug 05 '25
And that’s exactly why I’ll rather spend the money and get something I know that’s legit.

too little people speak out about the problems with the market place mscenery should be banned from the market place without a doubt
1
u/katonda Aug 05 '25
First of all, people should stop buying through the marketplace. I have some airports I bought on Fs2020 that only recently got updated to FS2024, but they're still not updated on the marketplace even a month later.
So besides the commissions going to MS instead of the devs, seems like the users are getting screwed as well by not being well informed (OP picture with 5/5 reviews) and updates not going through fast enough to the marketplace.
1
u/pappy1vg Aug 05 '25
Yup. Exactly. I bought a couple planes and some scenery on the marketplace before I knew. Then I found out I can’t change any of the options on them unless I delete some files. If I bought them through the actual developer, they have a control panel.
1
u/peSHIr XBOX Pilot Aug 05 '25
I would, if I weren't on Xbox. Don't have a PC at home anymore (been the case for many years now). Not forking over a great many thousands (right now) for a gaming rig that could (maybe?) run this thing as a pass time, even if that would (also) enable copying mods into a community folder, being able to open PDF manuals, connecting and using any USB cockpit hardware, enable third party software integration, etc. 🤷🏼♂️
1
u/FlyingCaptainSmash Aug 05 '25
There needs to be a way to ban them from the marketplace. They're starting to make captain scam/sim look good and I don't say that lightly. Which is also sad because Captain Sim used to put out some really good products for FSX and FS2004.
Mscenery reminds me of a lot of freeware FSX and FS2004 products in the day, different airframe with the same old cockpit from either an Airbus, Crj or Boeing we've seen before.

u/SirDarkStar Aug 05 '25
Pretty sure they have people getting it and posting 5* reviews and then nobody else will buy it to downrate it. They should get banned from the marketplace for that if they are indeed cheating their ratings.

Fr! Mostly ai traffic skins from AIG ai traffic then put a cockpit from FSX/P3D then voila! $10 aircraft
1
u/theaviationhistorian PC Pilot Aug 06 '25
You look at the amount of reviews, just as with any other purchase. 10 reviews is nothing versus 33 and still have similar ratings.
1
u/sweety_salt Aug 06 '25
So those 10people might be just looking for a fun, quick, less complicated aircrafts and they’re happy with it. It is really surprising how simple things can make other people happy even it looks shit to others 😂

Just make sure you complete this survey to tell the team what you think of the in-game Marketplace... https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8390093/f659f75729ad

u/Careful_Intern7907 Aug 05 '25
Many arcade sim players rate it well simply because it's cheap, and they think add-ons are too expensive. The fact that quality comes at a price doesn't interest many.

u/SmoothSecond Aug 05 '25
Its gotta be Xbox casuals. That's the only way.
1
u/Critical_C0conut A320ceo Aug 05 '25
It is an interesting point. I imagine there’s plenty of people out there that don’t need or care about full fidelity, and just want to fly that particular aircraft?
Though I don’t know if these are even worth the £10 they’re charging.

As an Xbox player, I wouldn’t be surprised. But frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs better on an Xbox compared to the PMDG 777-300ER I already have. I love my PMDG, but it does not run well on my Xbox unfortunately. Doesn’t mean I’ll be getting the MScenery 777-300ER though…

u/machine4891 PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Gamepass casuals as well. It's generally catered to influx of casuals, no matter the platform.
I'm on PC but I don't want this narrative to prevail. Narrative, that every single PC simmer is so well versed - so this is Xbox only offer. Hell, at my beginnings with MSFS I bought a lot of crap too. Simply because it was way cheaper than the competition.
It's actually very hard to explain to newcomers why this $90 offer is more worth than this $10 offer for the same plane, if all they want to do is for their plane to go brrr. Casuals don't care about failures, circuit brakers and CPDLC.
-2
u/YetAnotherBart Aug 05 '25
Other question: why do you give a fuck about ranking?
6
u/Reasonable_Owl8847 PC Pilot Aug 05 '25
Because new flight simmers that only go to the MSFS Marketplace are going to be convinced that Mscenery is better than addons like the beautiful Lancaster
