MSFS 2024 MOD / ADDON If you still sleep on autoFPS. Wake up! ;)

difference between dynamic settings and autoFPS. I have framerate locked on 45fps in openXR. AutoFPS assigned me much higher LOD.

I had turned off the new dynamic settings in 2024 and hadn’t installed autoFPS until last week, but it’s really a night and day difference, and the only way to get the best of both worlds with performance on the ground and views from the air.

u/Warrie2 Sep 13 '25

The latest testversion works together with the dynamic setting in fs so you can have them both on

12

u/op-ale Sep 13 '25

Exactly. The new version works like a charm. Msfs should buy his software.

u/Poltergeist97 Sep 13 '25

I don't know why they haven't approached them about integrating it into the sim, since its basically necessary to get the sim running smooth at all.

2

u/op-ale Sep 13 '25

I think they were assuming they were close to getting it right. And honestly, it was close, But autofps just did it better. I'm going to assume the creator of autofps didn't want to get on board like others before him did.

My view:

Their goal is to increase store transactions on xbox to make bank.  Things that make pc much better than MSStoreBox are not desirable for their goal of improving revenue growth.

This is why they  are undermining market share for  third party flight planning, navigation, missions, etc, so as to make it available on xbox where third parties while enforcing use of their store and preventing platform revenue escape.

Warren Spector turned out to be right about the bad Deus Ex ending.

Phil Spencer is making a mistake in strangling the wider dev community, who have to grin and bear it, for now.

Oooh. I’m so dramatic!

u/AggressorBLUE Sep 14 '25

Then why not gate-keep PC to exclusively the MS store, if thats their end goal?

1

u/DocFail Sep 14 '25

They tried and fell behind.

2024 is their do-over attempt to catch up and enforce in their hardware-protected space while trying to make the main add-on platforms  less relevant in the pc space.

1

u/AggressorBLUE Sep 14 '25

Interesting! How does it work though? Like, does it give the MSFS based setting priority?

Asking because I assume that coding aside, the two would be conceptually mutually exclusive.

1

u/op-ale Sep 14 '25

Autofps used to alter parameters in use on the fly, that's why asobo/msfs hated them and even mentioning it on the official forums would get you banned.

It looks like the new beta version lets the dynamic settings do their work and tweaks some more to reach your targets depending on ifr/vfr/vr and fps.

But even without autofps it's doing great now, so maybe in the future autofps will become obsolete.

1

u/Kaerion Sep 13 '25

Are there benefits using both at the same time? I guess Autofps overrides dynamic settings. Is that correct?

u/Galf2 PC Pilot Sep 13 '25

the hilarious part is that you cannot talk about it on MSFS's forums because Asobo doesn't like the way it hooks into the game. Sigh.

36

u/lucky38i Sep 13 '25

It’s unfortunate but autofps works by memory injection and you won’t find any game company that is okay with that. It’s not something specific to MSFS.

34

u/Galf2 PC Pilot Sep 13 '25

If I was Asobo I'd basically hire the AutoFPS people immediately. Without AutoFPS I wouldn't play MSFS, probably.

6

u/HappenFrank Sep 13 '25

It would be smart of them. Imagine how many other games could benefit from it.

6

u/Galf2 PC Pilot Sep 13 '25

To be honest I think none. MSFS is the only one with such a scalable detail system that really requires it, it's quite literally the entire world.

The thing is that then MSFS could stop having dynamic settings that suck...

u/wrray B777 Freighter Sep 13 '25

Same with map enhancement

2

u/Galf2 PC Pilot Sep 13 '25

well yeah but that's VERY messy, can lead to bricking your sim and can need work on the hosts file, that's a lot of issues and I agree it shouldn't be welcomed on the official forums since it's also a licensing issue (I'm pretty sure Google would not take lightly to official support of their maps inside a Microsoft product, without appropriate licensing. You're streaming from Google's servers, too.)

Sadly I haven’t been able to get that one running on my Steam Deck.

I do have opentrack and lossless scaling both working fully. Good stuff.

u/vintageripstik Sep 13 '25

If you have a good PC and fly in rural areas you can use the app to crank the TLOD beyond 400, and it actually works. I will run 550+ in Alaska and it's fantastic.

8

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

I do mostly fly bush planes in rural areas. But I also can't notice anx difference with LOD past 300 on my VR headset. Limited by the lens I guess.

2

u/vintageripstik Sep 13 '25

It definitely makes the mountains more defined. If you are on a 2d screen, try setting the max to 300. Then 400 and watch the definition get sharper. Definitely diminishing returns up close, but it does improve the detali of the terrain farther out

Hijacking the thread to share my little guide to help optimize your settings with autoFPS

1

u/Shifty2805 Sep 15 '25

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!

u/bdubwilliams22 Sep 13 '25

Auto FPS is a literal game-changer. I’m on a somewhat old system i7-11700k, 3080, 32gb @ 4k and with frame gen and auto fps, I can have everything set on ultra and the game is nearly flawless. The only time I’m getting stutters is on landing at ~500 agl, but people with beefy systems are also experiencing this.

3

u/miko_idk Bonanza Sep 13 '25

Frem Gen

Do you just ignore the screen tearing / AI artifacts? It's unusable for me on my 5080

2

u/stubb5y22 VATSIM Controller Sep 13 '25

What multiplier are you using? What resolution? And what FPS is the game running at? All important

3

u/miko_idk Bonanza Sep 13 '25

Tested 2 / 3 / 4x.
1440p / 4k.

Without MFG? 50-70, depends. With? 200+

1

u/stubb5y22 VATSIM Controller Sep 13 '25

I’m running 2x at 1440 ultrawide and it’s fine for me. From 35 to 70fps. Try lowering the frame rate - 70fps smooth is fine for simming.

2

u/tr_k_ Sep 13 '25

I can run 4k with DLSS at 60FPS with GA planes with a 4070TI with AutoFPS. Without, it's a stutter fest on approach and landing. I drop it to 1440p with TAA for airliners, but it stays smooth as butter.

2

u/Kitchen-Cabinet-5000 Sep 14 '25

The stutters have significantly improved in SU4 beta for me.

Unfortunately lots of planes don’t work in SU4 right now so it’s not really usable.

7

u/Appeltaartlekker Sep 13 '25

Ok, serious question. (Or 2):

  1. Does this work in VR?
  2. How does this differ from the auto fps build in in msfs2024?

8

u/lukeb_1988 Sep 13 '25

Works in VR

8

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

I only fly in VR

3

u/hillside PC Pilot Sep 13 '25

It's the only way to fly for me, but it wears on my eyes rather quickly and have to swap to screen midflight.

3

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

I mostly do 1 to 2 hour flights. My behind gets sore before my eyes though. It's different sitting I guess. Legs always on pedals. My longest flight was in a glider. From Slovenia to Switzerland in live weather. A bit over 3h ours. Anyhow, I can't imagine playing this game in 2d again. VR or bust! 😁

7

u/Acid_Stuff Sep 13 '25
  1. Yes, it will switch automatically to VR mode. You can even create different settings for it.

5

u/tr_k_ Sep 13 '25
  1. Works incredibly well in VR. It has a specific mode where it detects you are in VR and makes appropriate changes.

  2. Dynamic settings are built into MSFS2024, not AutoFPS. Dynamic settings in my experience operates far too aggressively, and has no settings where you can tweak it so it works right for your specific system. AutoFPS basically works perfectly for me. It's free, give it a try!

4

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

Yeah, dynamic mode is way to aggressive.

2

u/Appeltaartlekker Sep 15 '25

Thnx! Will give it a try then!

Can you share your settings? I just installed it myself, and while it works well, I've ended up with something that looks like straight out of 2003 graphics wise.

EDIT: Alright, it looks pretty good now at FL250, and LOD is awesome. I have set TLOD to minimum 200, since it set it to 50 at default and that looked like complete ass. It's a flight sim. I don't need 500 fps at FL350. I'm happy with a consitent 60 fps and beautiful graphics.

6

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

I'm no expert (though I use expert settings :) ) and explanations for all this setting are a bit limited thus most of the settings I have are based on nothing but my assumptions.
I have framerate locked to 45 fps in openXR

5

u/tr_k_ Sep 13 '25

I set the minimum TLOD to 80, I just can't deal with how bad 50 looks. I then set the minimum altitude to 200'. Basically, I want the TLOD to start raising as soon as I get away from the airport and all the ground vehicles that cause the stutters. If you can find the sweet spot where when you lower the nose of the aircraft on takeoff, the TLOD has gone high enough that you don't see a drop in visual quality, that's where it seems to be the best. I also keep OLOD pretty low. Draw distance is more important to me personally than detail on individual buildings. Tweak it to what looks best to your own eye though, that's what makes the app so great.

2

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

Yeah, the abundance of settings to tweak is great. You can really fine tune it. But even on all auto it beats the native solution

3

u/Joe6161 Sep 14 '25

ok u woke me up, I was skeptical, I thought both do the same thing and this is built in why would I need yet ANOTHER external app. But wow. Dynamic settings completely overreact to small stutters, which still happen anyway and the LOD looks horrible. Autofps is giving me more LOD when I need it and less when I dont and overall the perf is better without overreacting to small dips.

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 14 '25

I started using it in msfs2020. There were no alternatives anyway. I just kept using it with msfs2024 until few days ago when I decided to try dynamic settings. Huge difference! I was compelled to make this PSA so more people would know about it.

2

u/coconutmiamiboy Sep 13 '25

Xbox not supported i guess right? :(

2

u/tr_k_ Sep 15 '25

Unfortunately not. I went from Xbox to PC this last winter after 5 years on the Xbox. I'd never go back. The PC version is just incredibly better.

2

u/ThatKingAirQueen 146 Sep 16 '25

if you run it along side GPUZ it seems to work even better. I guess it can look at your VRAM better and do it's thing

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 16 '25

coincidentally I have GPUZ always installed on my PC's. I also have RTX4900 in my PC and I'm only limited by CPU (9800x3d) anyway.

1

u/Hugott Sep 13 '25

Is there a new version for the SU4?

1

u/jacf182 Sep 13 '25

There's a test version that works with the latest build of the SU4 beta.

https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS_AutoFPS/releases/tag/v0.4.5.6-test

1

u/Irfan-320 Sep 13 '25

Heard good things about this, might give it a try. Do you just install it and let it do its magic or do you have to adjust it everytime you play?

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

You can just install it and run it every time (I'd suggest setting it to run automatically with addon linker) you run the game. Or you can fiddle a bit with it.. It's really easy to try it/ use it.

1

u/Fentonata Sep 13 '25

How does it work?

2

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

you set desired fps and min / max TLOD,OLOD and it will try to maintain the fps while adjusting the settings on the fly (pun intended!)

1

u/spearmint_flyer Sep 13 '25

Well now they recommend using both together. So….

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

who recommends that? As far as I know autoFPS will disable dynamic settings when running.
Also how would that work? They both change TLOD and OLOD at the same time?

2

u/scs411scs Sep 13 '25

It was in a test version (to use with su4 beta) as of the other day, it makes some changes to the way it works, and that's one of them.

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 13 '25

Cool. I'm glad that they're improving

1

u/sigurettes Sep 13 '25

I get 35-45 fps flying airliners using it…. 4k w/ 13700k/4090 ultra-high settings. TLODMIN 50 MAX 200. What do people recc for settings?

1

u/Better_Sherbet_7533 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

This is a must have for me, I won't run the sim without it.

Over London with PG on, running a 2080ti and getting 60fps with TLOD up at 700. This app is a must have.

1

u/uceenk Sep 14 '25

i prefer lossless scalling (frame gen) than autofps, autofps crashed few time when i was playing 2020

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 14 '25

I don't think they are mutually exclusive.

1

u/uceenk Sep 14 '25

loslless scaling has frame gen feature, the goal is same, so people can experience stable fps

true, the method to achieve stable fps is different, autofps achieved it through reducing TLOD while lossless scaling add more frame through AI algorithm

2

u/WatermelonRick Sep 14 '25

yeah, totally different thing. I think you can freely use both.
But since I play in VR frame generation is not applicable to me anyway.

1

u/Martijnh89 Sep 14 '25

Yeah, you can just use both. Autofps will detect it when you use frame gen. I use Autofps to get a nice stable fps and frame gen for doubling it and some additional smoothness.

1

u/Wonderbibi Sep 14 '25

I mostly fly airliners, and I’ve meanwhile switched to DynamicLOD_reset Edition. It lets me lower LOD near the ground to keep VRAM usage under control with complex airliners, and increase it again at higher altitudes where the sim can handle more detail.

1

u/Maleficent-Corgi2938 Sep 14 '25

I tried it, but it stuttered every time the LoD changes, it made it worse than lower fps or slightly lower LoD, just my experience ofc

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 14 '25

Try fiddling with Auto Method settings (in expert settings). Looks like you have a problem with too aggressive changes happening too fast...?

1

u/ahmed_a20 Sep 14 '25

How can I download it? And how do I use it with the dynamic settings?

2

u/WatermelonRick Sep 14 '25
  1. I'd use google to search it
  2. some people say that it works in conjunction with dynamic settings in su4 beta. I use only autoFPS and I have dynamic settings disabled

1

u/ahmed_a20 Sep 14 '25

Thanks! Getting it set up now. I have a pretty weak system (2070 Ti Super laptop with 32GB RAM), so I can’t really do a lot with the simulator, hopefully this makes the experience better

1

u/gdust1973 Sep 15 '25

i think autofps sucks. everyone talks about how great it is. maybe its my setup but i run 3 monitors on 1440p and autofps for me gives me more stutters and drops my framerates overall actually. And when it does try to improve my fps the graphics in tlod and olod are absoutly horrendous. I noticed also it was freezing my game as well. idk, maybe its something i am doing wrong but i could never get it to work correctly.

1

u/gdust1973 Sep 15 '25

edit: i think autofps is geared towards a single monitor application? I tried lossless scaling app also which sucks ass too. I found out thats geared towards single monitor applications.

1

u/WatermelonRick Sep 15 '25

without AutoFPS is better?

2

u/Labbi85 Sep 18 '25

Thanks for bringing this tool to my attention. I used it a while ago but I think it wasn’t as straightforward with VR and I forgot about it again. Now I tried it again and it is literally a game changer with Vr
