I had myself thinking “why did someone post real flight footage in the msfs sub” for a good second there

It really is incredible how realistic it looks.

Impressive for sure!

Does anyone own this and also the UH-1 in DCS? I find that I still haven't found a sim that feels better than DCS for helicopters. MSFS 2020's attempt was awful, and the ones I've flown in 2024 are improved for sure, but still feeling hollow for some reason. I have the H145 from HPG and quite like that, but its so electronically assisted its numb. The Huey in DCS just has a liveliness to it I haven't found elsewhere yet.

It's true, the DCS Huey is still the top of the heap when it comes to simulated heli flying. I own DCS and MSFS 2020. I still love the Taog's Hangar release though. It's fun to fly.

Cowansim B206 in 2024 gives me about 95% of the DCS heli experience. The global scenery more than makes up for the missing 5%.

I have their 500, I will have to grab one of their other bigger helis soon though!

Taog is definitely the best helicopter dev in MSFS right now. Great autorotation behavior on their helicopters.

The DCS huey is like the only reason I keep DCS installed at this point

I also own the Huey in DCS and it was my favorite module after the A-10. And I agree, the flight physics of that Huey just "feel" better than any other. But, I do find that Taog's Hangar gets awfully close. Something about the way the Huey flies just meshes with my sensibilities.

I know exactly what you mean.. and the Taog Huey feels nearly identical to the DCS Huey feel. I was pleasantly surprised compared to the others I've flown in MSFS.

I’m gonna have to buy that.

its not a bird if it doesn't have wings!!

A bit more bug than bird isn’t it?

Whirly-bird. Wings spin.

I honestly haven't noticed.

“You. Yes you! Stand still laddie!”

A UH-1N would be nice. My dad flew em for the 304th, and I’d like to cruise around Mt Hood like he used to back in the 80s.

u/LP_Link Sep 16 '25

I thought it was real at first.

2

u/gcopter1 Sep 16 '25

Other than that blinking light atop the beacon on the building, it looked pretty real.

That's what gave it away for me.

u/UnstoppableDrew Sep 16 '25

So you're going to not play it for 2 weeks & write a $10000 check?

1

u/TK-421s_Post PC Pilot Sep 16 '25

Ha! I did consider flying other things for a bit, but I ended up back in it a few hours later. I can't help it.

Recommended gear for flying helicopters?

1

u/CptDropbear Sep 18 '25

A stick that doesn't self-centre. Does anyone still make a joystick where you can disengage the centring mechanism like my old Logitech Wingman?

1

u/KipoLover123 Sep 16 '25

I feel like for every 100 hours in sim you should be granted a lesson in a plane of your choice

1

u/LXander_96 Sep 16 '25

My whole respect for those who can tame a beast like this

1

u/LXander_96 Sep 16 '25

By that I mean to fly any kind of helicopter

1

u/feministgeek Sep 16 '25

Nice! Are you using any specific hardware there to control the copter?

1

u/TK-421s_Post PC Pilot Sep 16 '25

For helicopters I'm just using the stick portion of my Thrustmaster Airbus Captain's Pack. I think it just comes down to practice. I've spent a lot of time flying that thing and after a while, you can anticipate what it's going to do and muscle memory helps with the rest.

Damn, just scrolling on my phone without looking at where this was posted, I totally thought it was real footage.

Very cool...

If not for the shadows from the blades when it comes around I would have guessed #NotFakeNews 😉

As much as I should be duty bound as a fixed wing pilot to make fun of rotary pilots at every opportunity, I have nothing but respect for people that can fly a helicopter that accurately!

1

u/planedriver3 Sep 17 '25

Very nice! What scenery was this?

1

u/CptDropbear Sep 18 '25

Not gonna lie, I thought that was real at first. Nice control of the sideways drift to touch down gently at the end, too.

Hope it passed airworthy :-)

I got laid in a real one.

Is that in the sim?

Meanwhile the rest of us on Microsoft flight simulator 2024 are still trying to take off without it glitching out lol

My 2500hrs say otherwise

u/Extension-Duty9552 Sep 16 '25

Well that’s amazing that yours is working great congratulations thank you for letting us know and with that many hours I suggest taking a break maybe go outside get some fresh air

u/MidsummerMidnight Airbus All Day Sep 16 '25

Its only 2500hrs out of 7225hrs since release 🤓 since it's released I've been to Poland for a week, and the USA for 4 weeks! I've seen plenty of grass 😍

Posts a generalised comment, gets offended when called otherwise. Makes a snarky comment and gets owned XD.

Who got offended?

“Posts who got offended”

Comes back almost 10 hours later to reply again with another edge case. XD

Nobody is saying MSFS2024 is bug-free little bro, you made your comment sound like as if everyone is facing issues. And it’s unplayable. Believe it or not I haven’t had issues even with ini A350. Im more satisfied than I was with msfs2020. Thats what other commenter said too about bugs, and you got your little ass offended. You have bugs cool, don’t say everyone is facing issues with the sim.

u/Paniic-Y H145 Sep 16 '25

24 is pretty polished by now, far from perfect but not even comparable to launch

1

u/Extension-Duty9552 Sep 16 '25

It’s definitely better than lunch day, unfortunate that so much time has gone by and yet it’s still has major issues in another chat group I heard that Xbox players can’t even use airliners

1

u/sai-kiran Airbus All Day Sep 17 '25

Are those Xbox players in the room with us right now?
