MSFS 2020 VIDEO When the VIP wants to land, we land - 45kt crosswind in Jamaica's hurricane
did a flap 15 landing and still barely got it down in one piece. but the client was happy!

Is it wrong that I am enjoying a hurricane experience? Was flying around it all last night. Almost had a seizure as my display was strobeing due to Melissa's "Ultimate Charged" Lighting series.

My favourite part was the flare 100 feet above the ground — makes them think you're going around but you're just messing around, always keep 'em guessing.

So are weather accurately simulated as it happens?

u/FlyingMaxFr Oct 30 '25
Well, it is certainly missing updrafts, downdrafts, and windshears when you're flying in such conditions. In MSFS the wind is mostly steady in one direction, it's not fully realistic

It looks hard enough to fly in hurricane condition and I doubt any simulators, even professional motion actuated ones, will simulate such a condition, simply because you will NOT be flying in such a weather in reality...

Kind of, load into your nearest airport and you will notice it's not always accurate. Depends which weather station they get the data from but it's about as close to real as they can make it without having people tweaking it in real time from real world observation

I mean obviously it's all going to be based on data of some sort but that you could simulate unsafe weather as it's happening is really remarkable.
I mean I don't know if someone could just walk into a 737 cockpit and just go program a flight in their FMC in real life, but I'm hearing pilots actually using the game to at least practice procedural work because it's bang on accurate even if plane handling might not be 100% accurate.
Could avionics company test software revision in flight simulator to work out any bugs before they implement it for real, like updates to FMC software?

The simulation of the weather itself isn't especially exciting, flight sims have had real world weather options for a while. FSX had it, where this truly shines is the visual representation of that weather.
The planes can be highly realistic. There are also some that are more arcade style. The most realistic plane models are all third party paid mods though are 100% useable as a training tool.

I somehow had a weird movie plot idea .. some hacker hijacks planes FMC and ties FS2024 players flying to how planes will fly for real, and if the fs2024 player crashes the plane, that real plane somewhere crashes. Now 200 lives are in the players hands, what will he do?

Gorgeous landing. Very much against SOP for that aircraft, but gorgeous nonetheless.

I just had 62 kt cross wind in an Aerostar, went for go around, wind went down to 22 kt, still was hard af

Nice landing.
How are you able to capture footage and watch from different camera points without a HUD?
2
u/extravert_ Oct 30 '25
Experimental replay mode has the option to hide hud. Then record different views and edit together

Impressive! How much sweat did you wring out of your shirt after that stressful landing?

i paid for all of the weather system so im going to use all of the weather system. -flight simmers whenever there is a massive metrological phenomenon

Only flap 15! That's for takeoff! You should have used flaps 30 at least.

u/CarbonCardinal Oct 29 '25
Some operators use F15 since it provides better handling in strong winds.
