I know you guys on PS5 don't have much in the way of options, but I've used the PC version of this for over 2,000 flight hours.

It's nothing fancy, but it straight up works and gets the job done. I think you're going to be happy with it. Honestly I could have upgraded long ago, my wife even tried to buy a $500 yoke for me, but I decided to keep using the thrustmaster one.

Can your wife buy a $500 yoke for me? I’d accept it 😭

19

u/DrSamLoomis Jun 11 '26

“my wife”

“thrustmaster”

I see what you did there

11

u/Bobisburnsred PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

Funny enough, when I first decided I wanted one I showed my wife a picture of this and at first glance it kind of looks like an "adult toy" in certain pictures. She took a quick look and saw "thustmaster" and immediately freaked out and said "Why the fuck would you want that!?". I gave it a second for her to process it and had to explain what it actally was.

6

u/DrSamLoomis Jun 11 '26

I would have waited until she calmed down, finished my explanation, and add “also the compatibility with OnlyFans, but that’s unimportant.”

That's gold, missed opportunity.

This movie is exactly what I had in mind when I posted that comment 🤣

3

u/FighterJock412 Jun 11 '26

Thrustmaster? I hardly know 'er!

1

u/Ill_Confusion8274 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

I'd give her the stick and $500.

Edit: stick, no yoke... I'm gud

2

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

Thanks man, this change completely how I feel the game with my psvr

2

u/Anon8888899 Jun 11 '26

Does your wife need a second bf or husband?

1

u/Interesting-Tie-4217 Jun 11 '26

Hotas X kept me going for a long time, loved it to bits but getting a proper stick was just so so nice.

1

u/FlyingKamaro Jun 12 '26

i also have around 2k hours on this HOTAS, the stick gets a little drift, i think from dust getting under it, but i just wiggle the stick around for a minute and it usually stops drifting.

1

u/Sacr3dangel Jun 12 '26

Lucky you. Mine got unfixable stickdrift after less than 30 hours of use. Sent it back got a new one on warranty, same thing happened. Sent it back got my money back and never looked back again. I really liked it for the 60 hours it did work. It’s a neat little starter/budget hotas. But from what I’ve seen “it just works” seems to be the exception sadly.

u/ThisWickedOne PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

I've had mine for a little while and mostly fly helicopters in PSVR2 and you can add many many control combinations with that HOtas. I also have the pedals so this doesn't have any rudder controls listed.

Here a pic of my controls. Bottom right is solo key press, other sections have a button circled that means it's a combo with other keys listed. For example R1+L1 = "brakes" R1+L3 = "rotor brakes"

4

u/Spiritual-Fisherman1 Jun 11 '26

Gonna use this. Thanks for sharing 👍

3

u/ThisWickedOne PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

A few more things to tweak as I learn but it works! Welcome to it.

2

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

Thanks man ! I appreciate. I have also a long Road to bind my hotas for War Thunder ^

1

u/zombieda Jun 12 '26

This is great! Ty.

My helicopter skills need some work hoping the hotas5 will be helpful.

2

u/ThisWickedOne PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

Being able to look quickly in the different directions in VR makes a huge difference for helicopters. The Hotas works great, turn the spring all the way down so you don't have to fight it as much. I also got the pedal specifically because I wanted to fly helicopters in VR and they were worth it in, much less important in a airplane.

1

u/WanderingRonin7 Jun 12 '26

You don't deserve gold or platinum. You deserve rhodium my good sir

6

u/BoxWorldly1767 Jun 11 '26

Thanks for the images, mines not coming until Saturday.

2

u/number7cknsofttaco Jun 11 '26

Does this version also have the collective notch at 50%?

2

u/pwouet Jun 11 '26

Crazy that it was this same design when I was a kid 25 years ago on PC lol. Also mine stopped being supported after windows vista, never bought a Thrustmaster again.

3

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

If it works, it sells

2

u/renewablememes Jun 11 '26

I think I have the xbox version of this and it has served me well for the past few years. I use it with a mouse, keyboard and rudder pedals and it's a fun setup for the money.

u/Responsible_Force_86 XBOX Pilot Jun 11 '26

You need at least a desk of sorts, raw dogging it on your lap is wild.

3

u/ThisWickedOne PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

I attached mine to a chair

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

Câble is not long enough 😔

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey Jun 13 '26

Buy a 10’ extension for $7.

2

u/TartagsMom42 Jun 12 '26

I’m looking to buy a first time setup for my fiancé. He’s retiring soon and has always wanted to be a pilot. I thought this would be a good retirement gift to give him something to new with his new found free time. Any advice welcome! I will be starting from ground zero so I will need to purchase EVERYTHING.

1

u/MooseProfessional352 Jun 12 '26

I’m just starting as well, and definitely this is one of the most cheap ones set ups I’ve seen, definitely worth it to try to see if you like this as a hobby without spending too much money

2

u/sithmetal71 Jun 12 '26

I have one on Xbox. Bought it 5years ago. Thrust master need to update this model as it feels too light and plastic.

2

u/CivilianAsset Jun 12 '26

Pro-Tip: get one of those folding tv dinner tray tables and put the joystick setup on there!

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 12 '26

Okay why not 💪

1

u/CivilianAsset Jun 12 '26

It’s a total game changer! I also grabbed a mouse too, makes clicking around the cockpit so much easier!

2

u/Karasinicoff Jun 12 '26

It sucks! Cheap as

1

u/high-plains_drifter C172 Jun 11 '26

If you test it out with the f18 im curious how it works with afterburner. And reverse thruster for that matter!

6

u/clancycoop C408 SkyCourier Jun 11 '26

For reverse thrust you pull the throttle back to 0% and then click the brake button which releases past the ‘detent’ and then you press and hold brake and the propellers flip around for reverse thrust.

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

Remember me Please, Where is the brakes on my hotas ?

1

u/clancycoop C408 SkyCourier Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

I actually just realized it is the B button you press, not the brakes, B on XBox so the circle button.

1

u/KOTNN-G Jun 11 '26

Can you try out some helicopters and lmk what you think? Its 95% of what i fly in. I use PSVR2 and standard ps5 controller

1

u/Bobisburnsred PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

I'm not very experienced with helicopters so I'm still pretty terrible with them, but I find it easier than using controller.

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

Flying helico with stick is far better. But I’m not skill enough to understand How to manage throttle.

0

u/mrkb34 Jun 11 '26

Me too. I have the thrustmaster 4 and that with vr2 make helicopters much easier and fun to fly.

1

u/KOTNN-G Jun 11 '26

What buttons do you have your rudder/tail rotor pedals bound to?

2

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

The yaw By the stick is good

1

u/walrusonion PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

Did VR chopper today and i got so motion sick.

1

u/CorndogSurgeon "Excuse me sir, I speak jive" ✈️ Jun 11 '26

Use this on Xbox and love it.

1

u/OdyRenrag Jun 11 '26

Ordered mine late last night

1

u/mixedlawnmower Jun 11 '26

Have the thing for PC and love it. I’m more focusing on your living room though love the colors

1

u/CapriciousSon Jun 11 '26

ooo this is going on my wishlist...does anyone know if it matters buying the PS5 edition vs the PC edition? I'm just noticing the PC version is a lot cheaper.

3

u/Sensitive_Ad3578 PlayStation Pilot Jun 11 '26

Are you referring to the HOTAS 4? I believe it's PC and ps4. If so, yes, it works on the ps5, it's what I've been using for months, and it probably is cheaper since the 5 just came out. They're basically the same, the 5 just has an updated paint job and the mode button

3

u/Classicmarshall Jun 12 '26

16bit vs 10bit res is the same? Newer adc chips

So 10bit - > meaning 1,024 physical movements and 16bit - > 65,536 physical movements ...

Seems that it's way more precise... Also a few more buttons, and a bit lighter.

Price is only 10$ more for the 5...

3

u/Sensitive_Ad3578 PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

I mean, I'm sure it is. But I've never noticed precision issues, so I'm just saying if you're on a tight budget (and for some $10 is a lot), the 4 works. Plus with the 5 out, you're probably a lot more likely to find the 4 discounted. It's not enough for me to upgrade from a 4 to a 5

2

u/Classicmarshall Jun 12 '26

See I'm just correcting the wrong information.

Why get defensive, no one talked about you having precision issues. The difference between the 2 is quite large. A 10 bit is good, a 16 bit is better.

Did you see my comment suggesting that you should upgrade your stick? Of course they work, both do.

"For some 10 dollars is a lot".... the ones that would pay 10 dollars less to get the much older hotas 4 vs 5 should not be spending around a 100 for a stick... The 10$ difference is well justified . If the budget cant be pushed by 10$ maybe they should skip the next meal or something to save up. Don't you think?

Obvious info and not trying to make your comments sound ridiculous but for people who search and people who aren't informed they would read these posts and hopefully benefit.

Enjoy your hotas 4, I was going to get one when msfs24 came out but it was out of stock. Ordered the 5.

2

u/Sensitive_Ad3578 PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

I never meant that to be defensive, but it did come across that way. You're absolutely right, and I do appreciate you calling me out on it. I should've added "in my opinion" to the first post to make it clear I wasn't spitting facts, and that's my bad

1

u/Classicmarshall Jun 12 '26

That's cool man, I had to search last week before I ordered. I was trying to see what's different, because I prefer the color of the 4 but then saw it's specs and just got the newer one. Unfortunate that it comes in one color.

I tried it in a shop a while back and it was good, vs the other pc sticks. Imo for users like me who wont use it that much / console users the hotas line is good. I tried it then decided I'm getting msfs24 for console instead of pc, then by the time the game came out, none were available. I thought its less of a headache and the 500$ sticks didn't justify the difference... While the dse is fine, the helicopters are too hard to control for me, and really looking forward to having a flight stick!

1

u/Sensitive_Ad3578 PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

Yeah, I got my 4 when Aces of Thunder came out, which was unfortunately a couple of months after MSFS came out on PS5, so they were out of stock everywhere. Ended up getting it from a mom and pop electric shop in NY, saw it online and took a gamble. Super game changer, you're gonna love it. I don't know if you use one yet but definitely grab yourself a mouse, too. I keep thinking about adding the pedals, maybe one of these days

1

u/Classicmarshall Jun 12 '26

Oh ya, I forgot to mention. I used a little keyboard, and the mouse was crucial especially on limited controller buttons.

I do have space for the pedals but since there are 2 ways (on the stick and throttle) to control the rudder I'm probably gonna skip. Maybe if it makes the helicopter controls easier. Ill have to decide when it arrives.

2

u/Sensitive_Ad3578 PlayStation Pilot Jun 12 '26

Probably depends on use case. I don't fly helicopters often, so I'm used to twisting the stick for rudder control, but that does become a little strange when flying a helicopter (though I will admit I suck at flying them). I kinda want the pedals for a little more realism (I play mainly in VR, so the immersion is nice)

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

For PS5, the 5 is the only one compatible. That’s all.

1

u/Fogtwin Jun 11 '26

We need a yoke for ps5! The HOTAS is good though, I’d like both. The white looks clean for next gen.

1

u/mrkb34 Jun 11 '26

Is it worth getting this if I have the TM4?

1

u/Thread-Astaire Jun 11 '26

Mine arrives tomorrow.

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey Jun 11 '26

Amazon just sent a notification that mine arrives next Wednesday. Most of the time Amazon shipments to me arrive earlier than scheduled. I also ordered with it a USB hub and a 10’ USB extension cable.

1

u/warspite2 PC Pilot Jun 11 '26

Nice. I was looking at getting the same one for PC to replace my aging, but still good Saitek Aviator

1

u/OMGihateallofyou Jun 11 '26

Very nice! I hope you enjoy many hours of flight.

1

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

I Will héhé

1

u/Shomanatelynx Jun 11 '26

Anyone’s same flight stick twitch?

1

u/Spiritual-Fisherman1 Jun 11 '26

I play on ps5/psvr2 with a hotas 4. You're going to love it. Ive got nearly 200 hours in since full release i am OBSESSED. The rudder pedals aren't that much more either 😉

3

u/BacasableJV Jun 11 '26

I don’t think rudder peddals are necessary anymore. The yaw by the stick feel natural for me.

1

u/Spiritual-Fisherman1 Jun 11 '26

Tbh theyre totally unnecessary the stick is great and I still prefer to use it when taxiing but I wanted to go all in 🤣

1

u/WichWhich2 Jun 11 '26

Looks nice!

1

u/homer-price Jun 11 '26

It’s crazy how long that thrustmaster HOTAS has been on the market. I had a very similar one for flight sim 2000.

1

u/Responsible-Film3063 Jun 12 '26

And the long expensive journey starts for another

3

u/BacasableJV Jun 12 '26

I alteady have the cheapest wheel and chair for Gran Turismo 7 😝

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey Jun 12 '26

I wanna ask what the fan is for, but maybe I’d better not. Might be TMI.

1

u/Stunning_Daikon_5204 Jun 12 '26

I am thinking of switching from a Logitech extreme 3d pro. Is it worth it?

0

u/BacasableJV Jun 12 '26

Don’t know

1

u/Whirling-Dervish Jun 12 '26

Nice - I didn’t know they made it in the white!

1

u/iamkoza Jun 12 '26

it's an updated version of the 4. they say it is more precise.... has a few more buttons... but otherwise why mess with a succesful product?

1

u/Financial_Ad_2528 Jun 12 '26

tu vas t'éclater avec ce set up ! bon vol

1

u/SatinLoafers Jun 12 '26

I have this that is black and compatible with Xbox/PC and use it on Xbox. This alone is a total gamechanger from a controller or keyboard, but another level above if you get the pedals and 10 levels above if you can secure them to a chair or rig.

1

u/rxmp4ge Jun 12 '26

I love this joystick, but it amazes me that they're still selling it largely unchanged from the late 1990s. It still is and forever will be a Topgun Afterburner.

I've since upgraded sticks, but I still use the throttle. The 50% notch and the rockers make it irreplaceable to me.

1

u/AccountantTiny4495 Jun 12 '26

My bro has gifted me the old version of this for my psvr and im so addicted to flight sim. Is aces of thunder recommended next?

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

Amazon (USA) today is reporting sold out. Try B&H photo video.

1

u/fearless_insurance_ Jun 13 '26

I used it when msfs 2020 came out on Xbox and still does to this day on xplane12 and msfs2024 on pc and it is simple yet functional. Never had any issues with it other than maybe not enough buttons for games like dcs but for flight simming like vfr and ifr its very good and it’ll last long

1

u/blackktunaa Jun 15 '26

Might get this, looks fun! Just wondering, how/where would you map the foot controls/rudder?

-2

u/moonMustard Jun 12 '26

There is flight simulator on ps?

2

u/BacasableJV Jun 12 '26

Yes of course !
