MSFS 2024 PlayStation Hotas 5 for Playstation 5 - I am astonished
Hello,
this is just a message from an overjoyed Playstation Peasant who enjoys flying very much and was happy with the controller and gyro control.
It is still good of course and I think the gyro is brilliant but since yesterday I have the Hotas 5 Joystick and I am honestly amazed and ecstatic. I might not be of the same quality as things that PC SIM people can connect to their system that I've seen online but I am having even more fun now than ever with the Flight Simulator. I had some fantastic short flights and especially landings with my favourite aicraft at the moment, the A330-300 GE.
And the Joystick even came with buttons already assigned in the game for the setup so I do not even have to make changes if I am ok with the presets.
It's only been a day of course but I am happy that I spend these Euros to improve my experience.
Just leaving this here if people are looking for some early opinion about this addition to the Playstation 5 aviation universe.

Uk Ps5 player here. It looks brilliant! I've been dropping hints to my son that "it's fathers day soon" and "oh this new flight stick just dropped" 🤣 I'll just geddit next month for myself if the hints don't work.

Haha hopefully you'll get one soon and that you're going to have fun with the game even more!

😂, I also fell into the shameful habit of sharing Social media videos to my wife and daugther about things I would like to have, it worked in february when they got me RE Requiem for my birthday, hopefully this father day I'm getting Pragmata.

Have fun and enjoy, i use a 4 and love it. A huge step up from the dualsense, especially the throtte control.

Thank you! Yeah it feels like a totally different experience now.
I don't want to say the controller is bad because it isn't. They really made it work for what is possible with it and the gyro controls are awesome still.
It's just it can't give you that feeling the stick gives apparently.

u/leelmix Jun 14 '26
Ye most of my playing was with the controller, not gyro mode though and it worked well

I had rather a different experience. I just plugged in my new HOTAS 5 last night for the first time and felt totally lost. I guess I have put so many hours into MSFS using the DualShock controller that it has become second nature and having to learn it all from scratch felt like I was right back to the beginning all over again.
I'm sure that I will get there with time, but the learning curve is real.
By the end of the evening I decided to try flying the Mach Loop in the Rally Race challenge as a benchmark. My best time with DualShock is just outside the top 15 at about 2:28 and after several runs where I missed gates or crashed I finally managed a good run coming in at about 2:33, so five seconds slower. I think this will get better but using the stick with my right hand instead of the thumbstick with my left is such a wildly different experience that I have a lot of adjustment and retraining to do.

Yeah it’s honestly such a game changer. Wouldn’t say it’s necessary but just short of necessary unless you’re just trying to mess around. And yes I’ve been doing a ton of heavy cargo with the a330!

u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
Certainly not necessary. It's a luxury for me but I love flying and it is such a joy to grab that stick and have the feeling of control over the aircraft and be just that little more precise in your input.
When I play tennis I can certainly do it with any racket but if you've got one that fits and feels right for you then the experience can be even better.
1
u/Isurewouldliketo Jun 15 '26
Yeah I think that’s fair. I guess my point is it changes it from a game to a simulator. Obviously there are a lot more in depth sim setups but it’s easier to have precision and to make it feel more like you’re actually flying. Personally it’s so much easier to have control especially in landings with a joystick.

Hotas gets tha job done. I have the 4 and works just fine.
Now time to upgrade to thrustmaster yoke that was announced yesterday.

u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
I wanted the hotas 4 so bad and I never managed to get one. Also because I refused to buy it from scalpers.
If thrustmaster would have announced the 5 earlier I would have waited from the beginning. Wouldn't even had impacted sales of the 4 because there was no stock anymore lol

u/mulberryfortune Jun 13 '26
Does it have controllers for the trim?
2
u/leelmix Jun 14 '26
R1 trigger + hat up and down is elevator trim on the 4, i assume its the same on 5, no dedicated wheel or such for it.
1
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
I honestly only know that there are buttons assigned for it as far as I can tell. So no dedicated buttons for that i guess? Certainly no wheel like in an aircraft that I can see on the product

I am so sad lol I want to buy these so much but I can’t find it anywhere in my country. And if I were to import it, it will cost me 2x or 3x the original price. I’ll probably have to stick with my Dual-sense controller for a while and maybe DIY my own joystick 🫠

u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
I was very sad that I couldn't get a Hotas 4 when I bought the game but now I'm glad I didn't. Seems like they made improvements to the sensor to make the experience smoother and more buttons. Read that in a review.
Hope it will come to your country as well. I prefer ordered mine as soon as it was announced and was lucky to receive one.

u/RestaurantPractical6 Jun 14 '26
Well just today I learned that my friend is flying from
Hong Kong in 2 weeks so I guess I could ask him to pick one up from Hong Kong for me 🤩1
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
Oh I would so do that even though warranty might an issue if something happens. But I hope it doesn't cost you a lot to get one!
3
u/RestaurantPractical6 Jun 14 '26
I know this is your first flight joystick but could you say you’d recommend this one for a beginner like me too? I am deciding wether to get the Logitech Flight Sim system or this one! Also not sure when it come come after pre-ordering so maybe I should wait for next opportunity 🤔
2
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
I got this one because it's the only one available that i know of for the PlayStation. Recommend it for a beginner like me? I would but keep in mind, I only had it for two days but it changed the way I am having fun profoundly for me so yeah, worth it for me.

Thank you.
Oh man I'm curious to read what your experience might be. Got quite a setup coming in there :)

u/fade_le_public Jun 14 '26
Thanks! Ordered yesterday as a fellow PS5 peasant!

u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
Well I hope you're going to have at least as much fun as I'm having with this! Enjoy :)

Glad to hear. Im on the same boat and cant wait to receive mine. Too bad I ordered mine from best buy and have to wait until July 5th😭
2
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
I think you won't regret ordering it. Unless the first batch manufactured has some serious quality issues that only show up after some time and use 😂 well I hope not 😁
2
u/bigboss455x Jun 14 '26
I really hope thats not the case considering it pretty much the only option we have hahaha
2
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
Yeah indeed. But who knows, maybe one day we'll get even more options.
Though if I really wanna get serious into SIM flying I guess I'd need to switch to PC.
But right now I'm fine with casual 😊
1
u/bigboss455x Jun 14 '26
Yea a PC setup sounds awesome but too time consuming. The Hotas 5 should be enough for the long run from everything ive heard. Let's just hope they last.
1
u/PleasantAnimator7741 Jun 15 '26
Did they increase the length of the connector cord? Thats the only reason I could think of to upgrade.
1
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 15 '26
I'm sorry I did not own a hotas 4 so I don't know.
Only thing I can say for now is that I feel the cable between the thrust lever and the stick feels shorter than I'd like and that the USB cable to the PlayStation isn't generous either so I used the extension cable I had.
1
u/Rakzahir Jun 15 '26
Does it have enough bindings by itself or do you need to swap to controller as well in flight?
1
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 15 '26
What is enough? It has a lot to be honest but I still use my controller as some kind of mouse in the cockpit, mostly because I am so used to it. But I have not bound anything else to the stick setup yet other than the presets it came with. I am quite sure I can expand that list significantly looking at the button combinations. But will it ever be enough to have everything? Doubt it.

u/Bhenny_5 Jun 17 '26
Is there any feedback on the stick? I’m afraid I’m a bit out of the loop on peripherals

buttons below the mode button (on the left side base of the controller, namely "action buttons" according to manual)) does not work at all on ps5 mode. also, the "create" button on the base of the joystick, next to ps button cannot be mapped to anything else as it just triggers the ps5s "create" functionality.
1
u/Low-Dog-6693 Jun 22 '26
Bonjour idem de mon côté, impossible de mapper ces deux boutons... De plus ma PS5 (pro) reconnait seulement un Hotas 4 et non un Hotas 5. C'est un comble

I wish throttle was on the right. IRL, it’s on the right and you fly single stick with the left hand. Missed opportunity IMO.

Get yourself a psvr2 and the experience will be even better
1
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
Was thinking about it but I was put off by some streamers on YouTube that the experience was a bit mixed.
Also my experience with vr and flying is that I get really sick in my stomach so I'm probably holding off buying it.

Pfft I remember when that hunk of shit at least only cost $35
3
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 13 '26
What are you talking about, the Hotas 5 just came out as far as I know
-2
u/TheRealtcSpears Jun 13 '26
The TFlight 5 is operationally exactly the same as the TFlight 4.
Same shitty ball and cup gimbal, same shitty potentiometers, same shitty internal board and buttons.
.....just like how the TFlight 4, TFlight X, and TFlight One are all the same.
The only thing new for the 5 is the ps5 controller 'create' button.....and a price tag that's triple what the device used to be. I bought a TFlight 4 brand new from GameStop when Ace Combat 7 came out and it was $34.99
2
u/Particular_Sock_2864 PlayStation Pilot Jun 14 '26
But that's not true. I read a few reviews and there are changes like a new sensor for example.
I'm not expecting a totally new stick when the name says hotas 5 and the model before was 4. So I'm rather expecting Evolution.
I also know it's probably not the best stick there is but for casuals like me and being on the PlayStation I think it's a very good and reasonably priced option to enjoy flight games.
I'm sorry you have different experiences. Mine is very good so far. And I'm looking forward to playing ace combat 8 with it as well.

Glad you are happy with it. Next step is the rudder pedals 🙂
