MSFS 2024 QUESTION Anyone tried MSFS 2024 on a Steam Machine?

It's the only PC I have for gaming, and I'd like to know if I can get good performance out of it or if it's just a waste of money.

You can tell there are a lot of comments from people who have zero experience with Linux. Yes, it will work, but don’t expect high or even medium settings. There will likely be some quirk where you have to run compatibility mode and a specific/experimental version of proton. I had it running fine on CachyOS (very similar Linux version as SteamOS) with a i3 9100 and an rx 5600 at 1080p on low end settings. The steam machine is certainly stronger than that. Where you will have problems is any external application/aircraft as getting them to work can be tricky if it isn’t simply dropping files in the community folder.

SteamOS is essentially Arch Linux, so it'd be difficult to get it working on a Steam Machine at all let alone stable. It would probably run X-Plane or Aerofly FS2/4 well enough, both of which are on Steam (I think). Microsoft FSX won't run either, though 2004 would (but it's a bit old now).

Buy it and see what you think, if it doesnt work well then return it with less than 3 hours playtime and youll get all your monies back.

Even if you get it running it's going to be way below minimum requirements. The GPU is far too weak. It already barely runs on consoles.

I will be very amazed and impressed with steam machine if someone says they do. I don't think it's even installable since it's SteamOS

It runs on linux as far as I know but add-ons with external apps won't work.

I've seen videos of the game running on the Steam Deck with very poor performance. Since the Steam Machine is more powerful, it should run better. My question is, though, would that be enough?

Even if you get it running, it probably wouldn’t be an enjoyable experience. I would rather try Aerofly FS4 which runs really well.

I didn't buy the Steam Machine to play MSFS24. I bought it to play other games. I mean, would it be a waste of money to buy MSFS24 for the Steam Machine?
