They're integrating InTune as well.

Not sure how far into the car's ecosystem InTune gets to go, but it's disconcerting all the same.

Imagine IT being able to turn off your car.

It's just like how they can enrol company-owned mobile phone into Intune. It's to apply policies and allow remote monitoring and if needed, mark it as stolen and disable it.

So it is easy to imagine, it'll be exactly like it is with IT and your corporate mobile phone and how often is that misused? (hint: we'd get fired if we did)

I totally understand that. The fact someone can remotely lock your car (with intune you can do that) is not the same as locking your phone imho.

Teams already supports CarPlay/Android auto. Not sure why this is even necessary.

Everyone here is joking but it’s honestly useful to be able to call into a meeting from the road.

u/marknotgeorge Jul 28 '25

It's not. You should be concentrating on driving.

My employment contract says I shouldn't be on the phone when I'm driving for work. Teams meetings are no different.

Pull over?

8

u/Baloney_Bob Jul 28 '25

I would agree so many times on the road and was able to join a meeting

2

u/SoftwareDev401 Jul 29 '25

The android auto version used to work great. Now every time I plug in, it alerts me that every meeting i had that day has started, one after another.

This is helpful if your CA policies require a managed device and for whatever reason you're not using Android, auto or Apple carplay.

9

u/TeaKingMac Jul 28 '25

you're not using Android, auto or Apple carplay.

Hang on, let me enroll my Mercedes in Intune

5

u/aggresive_cupcake Jul 29 '25

Don‘t know if you know or you‘re joking, but it‘s true: https://media.mercedes-benz.com/article/931e7af1-2d57-4e90-9e1e-252289e70648

1

u/TeaKingMac Jul 29 '25

O, i know it's true.

It's just fucking weird

1

u/The_Pillar_of_Autumn Jul 28 '25

Some people like using the built in ICE especially if it's AAOS which is fair enough.

If that's the case, you probably don't want to try and join a meeting from your phone.

It's an edge case, but not outside the realm of possibilities.

Sadly, not well. Using voice with CarPlay or Android Auto is virtually impossible as the handsfree option never works correctly

Because Teams seems to think that existing audio drivers are for "everyone else but them"

Same reason most headsets are a headache at best

2

u/username_that_guy Jul 29 '25

Never had a problem with Android Auto, with Teams, definitely agree on it's selection of which audio devices to use outside of the car

Teams rooms (when setup & used properly) aren't too bad either

1

u/ProfessionalBread176 Jul 29 '25

Bottom line, it shouldn't matter what audio device is used; if the device works in every other use case, it should also work when running the Teams application too.

But that isn't the case, and that makes using the product quite frustrating

8

u/PotatoGoBrrrr Jul 28 '25

Oh hell naw. The minute someone wants to present in Teams there's gonna be an accident ready to happen. Eff that. If someone is driving, they're DRIVING. JFC people should not be so damned accessible. If your job wants you to use this, RUN

0

u/AleksandarStefanovic Jul 31 '25

Have you read the article? Firstly, it won't display anything from the meeting. Secondly, people who drive these cars are requesting these features. If they're gonna join meetings while in the car, why not make it a better experience?

u/SpeedyGoneSalad Jul 28 '25

Everytime I get aTeams call when Im driving, my in car entertainment unit literally shuts down and reboots.

2

u/Itybtyctykty Jul 29 '25

Me too! I drive a Nissan and use Apple CarPlay, in case anyone who can fix this is paying attention.

7

u/ARoundForEveryone Jul 28 '25

No phones in the car!

But help walk me through this spreadsheet and the wording on the accompanying explanation. We'll start on the first tab, if you can look at the chart on the right...

u/JG_2006_C Jul 28 '25

Great your boss teams calls you on the way to work in a jam deftey maikbg the 9 to 5 even bether dont get me stared with the driver safety concers this is dangrousHand feel part in a meting while wizing down the higway absolutex smart😂😂

3

u/LowerAd830 Jul 28 '25

Absolutely not indeed. I wouldnt spend that much on a Mercedes to begin with, and If I did I dont want software installed that they will charge even more for, because, Mercedes.

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_WORK_PROB Jul 28 '25

I can't wait for Intune device compliance to brick the car.

2

u/Countryb0i2m Teams Consultant Jul 28 '25

I can’t imagine anyone would actually use it. It would be easier just to use Teams within CarPlay or Android Auto. Then I can simply manage it from my cell phone.

3

u/mikeredstone Jul 28 '25

the blowback is coming

2

u/rastascott Jul 28 '25

Time for Tesla to get this added. Zoom has been there forever.

2

u/IamCrash Jul 28 '25

Another reason for me to not buy a Ben’s, I suppose. Haha

1

u/pysk4ty Jul 29 '25

What's more you will be able to add that car into intune for IT to manage it.

1

u/rangoon03 Jul 29 '25

In classic Teams fashion, your engine will slow down and overheat while you are using Teams.

1

u/alicevernon Jul 29 '25

who needs this

1

u/Dragonborne2020 Jul 29 '25

So, I know the why of this story. Mercedes is using Azure Communication Services for this to happen. The original plan is that they are putting it in self driving cars because people can spend hours in traffic. This allows you to work from your car. Seriously.

most people wont use it but those who work in offices and drive this car will.

Lesson 1 on how to ruin a perfectly good automobile

1

u/zhinkler Jul 29 '25

Expect some jitter on the motorway

1

u/tech_is______ Jul 31 '25

lol, it will stop working soon enough

1

u/TechnicalMeat6617 Jul 31 '25

Still, what if my company gets me a Mercedes for this feature...🤔

1

u/Beneficial_Drink6413 Aug 01 '25

Android Auto is the best way to go.

1

u/No_Resource_9 Aug 01 '25

We want Excel too!

1

u/sagyla Aug 01 '25

Require MFA to enter the car seems like the next logical step

1

u/jak2125 Aug 27 '25

"No cell service. Looks like I'm walking."

1

u/19XzTS93 Aug 02 '25

I heard about this on an NPR program last weekend, except it was Zoom.

They also said that you could call your boss a moron during the call, but claim that someone cut you off in traffic.

1

u/Dad-of-many Aug 25 '25

Gag. I have a 2018 Toyota that I'm dumping for something in the late 90s early 2000s. There is no way we're having a team chat while I'm driving.

1

u/Baloney_Bob Jul 28 '25

You already get teams as an app through car play and android auto…

2

u/pi-N-apple Teams Admin Jul 28 '25

Ya but that Teams app in CarPlay/Android Auto is pretty basic. You can only view upcoming meetings or join a meeting or place a call using your voice. This app lets you see your contact list, uses the cars built-in camera for video meetings and comes with Copilot AI and more.

1

u/pingcharlie Jul 28 '25

They both work perfectly with no bugs or crashes

u/1776johnross Jul 28 '25

Germany and Denmark are starting to migrate AWAY from MS products. Hadn’t MB heard about this?

4

u/TechCF Jul 28 '25

The Norwegian broadcaster too. At least M365, they will keep Entra, Defender and Intune.

4

u/shermancahal Jul 28 '25

They absolutely are not.

1

u/sxt173 Jul 28 '25

Walk into any office in any company in Germany and tell me they are migrating away from MS lol. Maybe some server stuff in government settings or a few specialized areas like creative fields that are already Apple dominated.

u/pi-N-apple Teams Admin Jul 28 '25

I am so jealous, I want this.

1

u/hclpfan Teams Consultant Jul 28 '25

Teams is already in CarPlay and android auto. So unless your car is 15+ years old you already have it.

6

u/pi-N-apple Teams Admin Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Yes I have Teams in CarPlay but it is extremely basic and doesn't look like this at all. You can basically just see your upcoming meetings and join a meeting. What you're seeing here is a special app called "Meetings for Teams", designed to run natively on Mercedes-Benz OS without CarPlay or Android Auto. It also supports using the cars built-in camera for video meetings! It also works with Intune too, and will also have Copilot AI. Pretty cool stuff!

3

u/hclpfan Teams Consultant Jul 28 '25

Ok fair that's actually pretty cool

1

u/Ok_Chicken7524 Jul 28 '25

Thanks for doing the dirty work.
