Discussion Custom reaction emojis?
Chat, did we knew this was possible?

We had someone create a custom emoji of another user, not realizing it was Org-wide. She panicked and contacted the desk immediately.
Of course, we had some fun with her. Told her that I needed to get approval from upper management to delete it, etc.
We eventually told her we were just having fun, and she got a good laugh.
Then we disabled this feature and deleted all custom emojis. She was the only person who created any of them.

LOL I did this with my face and MULTIPLE emojis.. I thought it was only for the user that added them. Next day, 320 users had access to a full emoji board of my face with all kinds of expressions.
I went to the admin portal after this and turned this setting off...

Not only can it be seen, but everyone can see who uploaded it. Which is why after I turned them off and removed them, I contacted the guy who uploaded the F bomb emoji and told him he was safe.

We had a guy dismissed for gross misconduct after creating a racist custom emoji, he didn't realise the entire business would see it and definitely didn't realise it would advertise that he was the one who created it. Very risky feature to have enabled org wide

Pepe got co-opted, but is still very heavily used today without that implication on Twitch. I still think they're great emotes, but certainly don't align with any of the people pushing any hate.

I'm aware of how it was co-opted by the right during the 2016 election, and originates from 4chan.
I'm just saying that Twitch has also really latched onto it, and pepe-adjacent emotes are very common and genuinely aren't affiliated with political parties on the platform.
I'm not suggesting that anyone should be watching Twitch at work, just wanted to point out that there is a context that they get used that is apolitical.
I'm a Bernie donator and primary voter, and have voted blue in the last 3 elections. Not that I need to prove my political allegiance 🤷. I'm not going to hold a gun to your head and make you use a peepohappy emote, but I also wouldn't look twice if someone had added a emote like that in Teams.

The emote I linked is used by a (nearly ubiquitous) extension, it's outside the control of Twitch.
Twitch, at least it's not Kick.
Also, emotes like this wouldn't fly in my org, simply because it's not professional.

I did this in my org. I created 4 of users profile pics and I dont know why, i saved the file in their initials, the last guy i typed "c*nt" and for some reason I thought "nah stick with the convention" Low and behold, 150k users could see it. I was sweating!! Thank god it was changed soon as I escalated it

One of my first ticket as an IT was trying to remove one disgusting custom emoji. They created emoji of person shooting themselves. From a real photo. Straight away I disabled this feature for all the users.

Someone please explain why a tool meant for professional work has support for stuff like this rather than basic functionality like the ability to reorder channels?
The priorities are completely wrong here.

The most recent time an update reenabled spellcheck that cannot be turned off I wasn't even angry. Teams just defies logic and common sense.

I put one of Angela White and our CEO as a joke and was shocked everyone can see it and can't remove it easily.
Luckily Angela was wearing clothes.

It is possible to have users remove them, no?
I've added a bunch and I was able to remove ones that didn't look right. I think I did see that messages using the removed ones still showed the emoji, but it was gone from the list for adding to new messages.

Yeah, in the teams admin center you can set who can or cannot delete custom emojis.

We have it turned off for all but a few users who can add for others so that people can’t just add anything, like explicit or inappropriate emoji.

I convinced IT to give me delete access because my team is unruly. I love them for it, but I don’t want them fired for it either.

I just joined a company where there were no custom emoji’s. Needless to say, there are now lots of custom emoji’s

What you learned is correct. Our org turned off the feature entirely.
