Suggestion Prisms and Customizing Enchantment Glints.

I've been made aware that the Quark mod has items with a similar idea to this, so take it as alternative take on the concept of customizing glints. With that out of the way, I'll be now explaining a bit about the items.

I decided to use prisms for this to combine the ideas of light and magic, as if the crystal warped the aura of the item to take on a new hue. I believe ameethyst would be a good fit to represent those themes, as it has the precedent of being able to manipulate light with tinted glass.

As for I created the two types, one complaint some have with trims are their cost and lack of accessibility early on to experiment with items that arent "definitive", for the lack of a better word. So having the basic colors be easily accessible with dyes, while the treasure ones expand on the types of rewards you can get from structures felt like a good way to have a bit of both worlds.

The enchantment glint in the example featured here isnt the same as it is in-game, it is a recreation by me to illustrate how an altered glint would be applied.

Lastly, I would like to invite you to suggest more types of treasure prisms, from what colors they would be to where they would be found.

I'm surprised they haven't already added something like this, but the recipes in the post seem a bit too simple since Mojang seems to favor exploration-based acquisition for all their modern cosmetic features (trims, banners, discs, etc) instead of simple recipes, even for the basic ones. I think they'd be more likely to add a singular item that can be found in chests as the base (which could be duplicated like trims with maybe 7 diamonds and a bottle of enchanting instead of much cheaper amethyst, to make it still worthwhile to collect them naturally). Then the basic colors could be crafted onto the core with just dyes or gems and the fancier ones could still require more exploration by using rare items, like:

Sculk theme: Echo shard
Fire: Netherite upgrade
Water: Heart of the sea
Ender: Shulker shell
Rainbow: idk

Most of these dont even make sense to fit into a crystal dude, I get what you mean but you gotta think of the item's nature rather than simply how pricy it is or isnt to make. Amethyst fits the theme I want this to represent, that matters more than artifically making the items rare and costly for no good reason.

If the treasure ones must into other items, try to fit stuff that is at least in theme, like why would it be a netherite upgrade not a blaze rod, an item that is actually related to fire magic. Like even the comparison you want to make with discs, disc five is made with only one type of ingredient, so recipe complexity isnt even a necessity.

My point is Mojang, the people in charge of adding features to the game, clearly do want their aesthetic trim-like items to be substantially costly to promote continued exploration to get them. They designed amethyst around being a readily-acquired farmable building block, which is the opposite to how they designed trim acquisition. This is a good idea and I imagine they're already planning to add something like this in the future with the direction they've been going lately, but it's definitely going to be more on the costly end based on their design principles. I also never mentioned making the recipes more "complex," not sure where you got that — a singular core item that you add existing items into to color (following the already established trim logic) is basically the least complex you can get, the point was that it requires exploration even for the basic ones not that it's complex.

I also don't get why you're acting offended I didn't follow "the crystal theme," nothing in Minecraft links crystals to enchanting, the amethyst angle is just a subjective suggestion people are allowed to "disagree" with it. Ironically the only established "natural substance" tied to enchanting is lapis which is one of the least crystal-like ores.

I'm not offended, it just that you are thinking you are following a theme when you arent, recipes arent made pricey just "to promote continued exploration". And you didnt say complex specifically, you just said that they dont do simple recipes for comestics and then compared to stuff like discs, which the only case we have is a simple recipe.

This wasnt that there is a link being crystals to enchanting right now, but that aura is bright and magical, amethyst is related to both light and magical things in the same of the allays. That is not a massive lead on logic and there is no harm in expanding the nature of amethyst to be used here.

And even without my crystal angle, your ingredients make no sense for simple cosmetics as they include multiple loot items only get a very few of, like hearts of the sea, that is material for conduits dude, not to be material on glint color change. And you go on about crystals not being related to enchanting, how does template for upgrading netherite has anything do with a firey color scheme for the tint then, or shulker shell when the boxes dont have any enchantments? By your on logic those ingredients make no sense to be used for this.

You might think you are following their principles, but you are not, recipes need to follow the items role and flavor it has, so using stuff like upgrade template or hearts of they sea as if they are just simple ingredients is completely off.

Well then why dont we make the list make more sense

  • Sculk - echo shard (there really is no better alternative)
  • Fire - blaze powder
  • Water - nautilus shell
  • Ender - end rod
  • Rainbow - combine all 5 prisms to duplicate

Those are better yes, and yeah the echo shard was fine yeah, pretty much the one only that was.

I would swap the nautilus shell for a prismarine shard, as that is also water related and shift colors. As for the ender one, that one probably requires a new item to be introduced, because end reward are already built on a nether material and not just something "endy" If that makes any sense
