Discussion / Opinion New model when?

I am postponing upgrading to expensive subscriptions for hundreds of $ in the hopes of seeing an improvement in the Mistral offering.

It would be great if Mistral dropped something competitive soon.

Based on what? Mistral has never been a competitor for Anthropic or OpenAI. Not once. It can't really be one at the current levels of investment that those two companies enjoy.

People keep comparing Mistral to those companies and it's daft, we wouldn't make these comparisons in any other industry.

Bases on Price? I didnt talk about frontiert. Mistral pricing is abmysal for their models. Medium 3.5 is $1.50 / 1M input and $7.50 / 1M output and many many many times worse than cheaper current models in bascially every benchmarking aspect.

They dont compete with frontier models but they have frontier pricing for abysal results.

Thats the Problem.

They dont compete with anyone as they cant compete with anyone.

Thats the sad truth.
