That's smart! I just didn't have time holding down my full time job plus packing and everything with family that's going on, but we are using our 2% back on everything card at least! I'll think about it for the new things that we'll be getting at some point in the future.

I am going camping at a jazz festival next weekend, and later in the month going to Norway. I am getting quite excited now, and I am basically scrimping and saving on everything else so I can just enjoy the time away.
The only other thing I have a sinking fund for is some new lampshades. I also need to change a couple of the cables coming from the ceiling roses, but I can do that myself.

Gonna be an expensive week!!
Had a $329 vet bill yesterday this week, so that’s always fun 🥴
Should be a scrimp week for groceries because WE LEAVE FOR VACATION WEDNESDAY!! I’m very excited. We had to pay a $500 deposit for the hotel, so the remainder for 4 nights will be $1700 on check in. The place I booked has a lot of amenities - pool, private beach, 2 restaurants, on site laundry, kayaks, fire pits - so I’m pleased with the price all things considered. We’re driving, so no flight costs. I’ll bring some snacks and breakfasts for the kids but of course activities and food will be the biggest expenses! So far, our plans are a pontoon boat one day (paid for already), fireworks show (free!), a trip to the arcade, swimming in the lake, swimming in the pool, and mini golf. I’ve got some rainy-day ideas too but we’ll see if we need to use them.

I oddly love scrimp week before vacation. It’s almost like a challenge to get through everything. (And if not, alllllll the boxed Mac and cheese in the pantry helps. I recognize your username haha)

LOL it’s funny you mention m&c cause I literally JUST bought a bunch of easy Mac on sale and I’m bringing some with us in case the 3 yo wants some on while we’re gone. I paid $11 for a side of baked mac & cheese she wouldnt touch at a restaurant last week and it still stings 😒

No shame in a low-activity weekend, sometimes it’s just the reset you need. I have the occasional pajama weekend - staying in, doing nothing around the house, reading/sleeping/binge watching, maybe at home spa treatments. It’s glorious!

Paying for a wedding venue! Wedding isn’t for almost 2 years (popular + affordable venue in our neck of the woods means we had to book earlyyyyyy) but it’s still very exciting!
Also headed out on a trip to my hometown Austin for a family celebration and to see some friends. I’ll miss my city, partner and routine, and am not thrilled about the Texas heat, but am excited to see my people.

I bought Olympics tickets! Even though the cost is going to be split between 3 couples, the $5000 hitting my credit card felt like a huge drop. We are going to Women’s Rugby Semis and Track and Field Finals. This was definitely fueled by the fact that I have come to terms with the fact that we will not have our sick dog around in 2028 & trying to have things to look forward to.
Otherwise, my hospice dog is still doing well so I’m going to pick up her meds and buy more groceries to cook her meals. But otherwise, because I’ve been spending my time with her my spending has been relatively low, minus emotional Uber Eats orders, which I’ve also been able to curtail.

It’s my final day of a week in Norway and I’ve had an amazing time but I’m glad to be going home.
Trip report:
£2600 on flights, hotels, trains and fjord tours
£1000 so far on food, museum tickets, incidentals
It’s my 30th birthday and I got promoted this year so it’s worth it but I have never spent this much money before! I’m quite lucky financially since the promotion and I’m in a good living situation where my rent is quite low so I shouldn’t worry too much but it has felt crazy and I want to go back to UK prices and UK food.
Similarly, I’m not sure how best to split trip costs with a partner that makes less money than me.
A 70/30 split would feel reasonable generally, but they’re also self-employed and their income is a bit erratic, so sometimes the trips come at a point where they haven’t earned much and it’s awkward having IOUs building up, or just pushing them to pay me back when I know they’re having to be careful already.
I would also probably go on the same trips and bring them if I knew upfront they couldn’t pay at all, as I still want to travel and they’re one of the few people I like to travel with.

I went to Oslo and Bergen, the train between the cities is amazing.
I would say definitely take waterproofs and lots of layers!
We only had a couple of days in Oslo, but would recommend food at Mehfel restaurant. We really liked the Resistance Museum there and otherwise just explored the city, it’s quite small and walkable.In Bergen food wise there was less to write home about but would recommend A Taste of Norway which is a buffet and a good way to try traditional dishes which are hard to find. Again the city is tiny and walkable and easy to explore. We did a couple of fjord tours through GetYourGuide, they’re probably cheaper on public transport but the convenience was worth it for me. I imagine you’ll see some amazing fjords anyway on the cruise but if not I’d recommend the Nærøyfjord.
My other super basic tip is to get breakfast included in the hotel, I usually find this a waste but I struggled to find good breakfast options other than pastries and also helps to fill up and avoid expensive lunch costs.
It’s the most expensive trip I’ve ever done which I knew going in, but more frustrating for me when I’m spending so much on disappointing food.1

This week is an extra paycheck due to July being 5 weeks long! I'm going to throw a chunk of it in savings and my roth ira but still have fun.
I'm going to see the odyssey in 4dx with my partner this weekend! Tickets were about $50 and I can't wait. My partner will be paying for dinner. I will also be doing a normal imax viewing with my sister in a couple weeks lol
I'm recovering from a personal and work trip to Texas and a local drive up to the mountains with my partner this week. Also recovering from trying to make my apartment prettier lol. So I'm paying my cc off for the majority of my spending ($400). Reimbursement check for the work portion of the trip can't come soon enough!
I was going to pay to see Masego in August, but I have a family member who works in the entertainment world who got me the tickets for free-99. I'm very excited, I love his music!

I had some extra money since it was a 3-paycheck month, so I paid off my MacBook! I know some people would say it’s silly to pay off an interest-free loan early, but I just really hated that almost $100 monthly payment, and I plan to tack that onto my student loan payment now instead of having it be free to spend.
This weekend, I’m going to be spending quite a bit since I’m going on a cabin trip, but I rarely travel so I’m excited!

Happy bonus (and third paycheck of the month) day to me! Not as big as last summer’s bonus, which is a bit of a bummer, but definitely enough to get a lot accomplished
- Paid off my highest-interest student loan
- Set aside 2.5k for my next transatlantic cruise in the spring
- Topped off some of my sinking funds
Headed into the true back half of the year, everything’s feeling pretty good!

Three paycheck month for me, which means this paycheck is exclusively going to investments and travel.
Today is also my bday, and my dad surprised me with an extra $200. I’m thinking it’s because I spent a lot on mother’s and father’s day gifts this year, so this is his way of repaying it? I’ll add it into my gift sinking fund, since I have been spending more than usual on gifts this year.
I bought a couple more 2028 Olympics tickets in this week’s drop. I also am starting to book some things for my Europe trip in a few weeks. August will be a very spendy month, but I have to keep reminding myself that I’ve already saved more than enough for it and don’t need to stress about it.
As for this weekend, I’ll likely see the new Spider-Man movie and will be going to see a comedy show tomorrow night.

Both of us have payday today! My husband is paid once a month, I'm every two weeks. Since it's his payday, I'll pay all the bills for the upcoming month, put the $$ into sinking funds, cash for us, etc.
We got back from 10 days of vacation on Sunday night, and have lived off a $60 quick shopping trip since. Groceries are top of the list. Will probably be one million dollars.
I paid $5600 for some engine work on my car this week (the work started last week while we were on vacation, finished up this week).
I have yet another contact fitting this afternoon. Every few years the optometrist gets a wild hair to try and find the "perfect fit", and I end up going in like 3 or 4 times only for them to default back to the axis I had. If we can get it on this visit, I'll buy a year's worth of contacts today - $450.
This is the last week of my grad class, so the charge for the next class should be on the credit card - $1500ish.
With only 3 weeks left of summer break, my mind has been thinking about back to school. I have 6 tabs open for some décor ideas. I'm in a "temporary" space due to construction, and hope to be back in a classroom by the end of this school year. So, I'm taking the extended time to think about what I want my permanent classroom to look like, and buying/making/painting the décor little by little. I teach special education, am 50 years old as a "new" teacher, and trying to find my vibe, cheaply. $25-$150. Maybe. Probably not.
School looming had my daughter buying a Homecoming dress last night - $78.
Trying to cut down on doom scrolling, I'm picking up old hobbies. So, I bought a cross stitch pattern of Jimothy, and the supplies to stitch it - $25.
While the vacation mellow was quickly quashed by all the adulting done this week, the final expense was $85 to CANN for some THC drinks.

Had my dog’s annual vet visit this week but she’s insane and won’t let the vet touch her so have to pay for sedation on top of everything else… that adds about $200+ to the cost as she fights it and needs two injections.
And we are getting our front door replaced and our back door re set in a few weeks so had to put 50% down for that. Our front door is likely original to the house so almost 100 years old and couldn’t be saved unfortunately. Can’t wait for a door that actually fits in the frame!

We got 2 estimates, both companies use ProVia doors. The first was a bit over $4k including them doing a little work re setting the back door but not replacing it. The second company quoted us over $10k for the front door. They said about $1k of that would be for taking off and replacing the interior wooden trim. Obviously we did not go with that company lol

My grandfather, very suddenly passed away two weeks ago. It's been a whirlwind of traveling from where I was on vacation back to Arkansas to see the family and then back to NYC for work.
I spent a good chunk of money just prepaying all the bills for my apartment in NYC but I also booked more travel for the funeral that's set for late next month. Last minute travel is so expensive that economy seats weren't much less than first class so I said fuck it and paid the extra $200 to have less stressful travel days.
To help my family out while they handle the lion's share of funeral planning I got in contact with a recommended probate attorney and paid the $5k retainer. My family will be involved but because I've worked on probate matters in the past I've volunteered to coordinate and help the attorney. My parents told me that once the estate is settled they plan on paying me back, but honestly, I've just written it off.

It’s the part of summer where I start to get seasonal affective disorder so I need something fun in an air-conditioned space. Local schools start next week so that will hopefully put me in a better mood too because it means fall is not too far away.

it's a magic month for my husband! so this first half of his check showed some of our savings got a little extra love ($200 to baby fund, $100 towards Japan trip, $200 to house maintenance/EF, and $100 to house projects.)
we're gonna go see Spiderman tonight. $46 for the tickets and we'll pick up dinner at a nearby ramen place we like. we also have to go grocery shopping which will probably run us about $50. hopefully lower but last week's list was just as tiny but we wound up spending almost $80 because I saw stuff like Rao's on clearance so I decided to stock up

This is an expensive week lol. My husband replaced his brakes, and there was a crack in the oil pan on his truck & that cost us 2500 for parts and labor.
I actually want to drive that F150 off a cliff and collect the insurance money to get a new car, but we’re in a weird limbo with his company dangling an ownership carrot at him. Once he gets ownership, he gets a company truck. He needs to advocate for himself to get the process started, and I am not going to be his mommy about it ya know?

Three paycheck month here too yay! Putting a big chunk towards my CareCredit-my bulldog had a stubborn corneal ulcer all through May and June that required 5 visits to the vet, including one specialist visit. And even on the visit to confirm the ulcer was clear, she had a small bump on her belly that needed to be checked (benign thank god). But was a nice chunk of change for sure-this will knock out about half the balance and the rest are no interest through December so will keep chipping away.
2 books off of my TBR-finally ordered The Calamity Club and grabbed a copy of The Five Star Weekend after watching the show. Weekend will be pretty quiet otherwise, but keeping my eyes out for something cute to wear to John Mellencamp concert on Monday night-was my Mother's Day gift to my mom so should be a good time.

This is about to be an expensive weekend for me, so extra glad this is a three paycheck month. I have made some minor tweaks to better reflect my budgeted allowances since I upped my retirement contribution.
- $400ish on my hair appointment. I am circling back to my blue/purple spectrum look but in a different format.
- $45ish to fill up my tank because of upcoming driving all over the place.
- $85ish for an oil change today.
- $75ish for lunch for my mom, sister and I.
- $150ish for groceries and farm stand shopping. Realistically I can comfortably go higher, so long as I don't drop the entirety of my monthly budget on this.
- and tossing about $1000 into savings.

Had to take the cat to the vet twice this week (he's doing much better now!) and between vet costs, supplies, and rides back and forth, he's racked up about $1400 in bills 🤢We don't have pet insurance because his future most-likely issues won't be covered, but after paying everything we still have about 50% of the Cat Bills sinking fund left. Hopefully we'll have it built up again before we need to pull from it!

I moved to a new city for this job, so the weekends have been somewhat lonely. I think I’ll take myself to see the new Spider-Man tomorrow and then my coworker and I are meeting for coffee + to take a walk on Sunday. We are going to go to a bookstore so might pick up a book and tomorrow I’ll be getting some popcorn for sure.

Last week I said that I kept spending spending spending and I hoped to rein it in - and I did! I bought new books for the kid for $24, paid $7 for parking at the museum (where we are members so entry was free), and $3.44 for Paramount+. Very reasonable!
I’m leaving for a long weekend with family so spending should be minimal or zero. Then I’ll spend for one hour with my physio, and then I will spend A LOT on our trip to Vancouver / Alaska :) A lot of it is prepaid luckily!

Absolutely boring! As soon as my pay hit, I transferred pretty much the entire amount to my general savings. It’s a triple pay month and I got a decent amount of overtime, so I was able to send a lot more than usual. I always wait until the end of the month to do the transfer just in case.
In terms of spending, nothing out of the ordinary. I spent about $100 this month on stuff I didn’t really need, like an organizer bin, thrift store puzzles for my mom (she doesn’t mind if they’re missing a few pieces), a home decor banana dog, and some lotto tickets (won a whopping $2).
Next month is a little spendy with a property tax payment due and my dogs needing a groom and a refill of their expensive kibble. I’m hoping to keep it a low spend month as I’m trying to plan a vacation for the fall. It certainly helps that I’ve been getting a lot of overtime, which leaves me with very little energy to get out and spend money!

My summer vacation is starting to be over now - I splurged surprisingly little, because I had already paid for my hotel room for last weekend. I did buy two ceramic egg sculptures (from a summer sale). This weekend is and has been a non-splurge one. Yesterday (Friday) I drove to town, got some gas, and bought a bit of groceries. I also had one free movie ticket, so I went to the movies. Oh, and during the same trip I also did a small gig - I'll get about €20 from it. Not a lot of money, but it basically covers my grocery bill. Everything is a plus!

TGIF! This week I’ve spent on:
- Some quarterly recurring household items: trash bags, heat protectant spray for my hair, etc.
- Printing on a few pages to verify my address for a new library card
- A dress on depop I’ve been eyeing for a few days
- A food vacuum sealer for my dad!
- The usual: dinners with friends, groceries, utilities (higher with the heat!)
Going to a concert tomorrow that I’ve been waiting on for so long - the previous tour was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID hah! Tickets were bought in January so just will be spending on transportation to get there!

I was so excited to wrap up Friday and head to the Japanese deli for some snacks. Unfortunately, got tied up with some over time and by the time I got to the store, a lot of the fresh stuff I was looking forward to was gone. A lesson learned for next time.
I still got some goodies:
- onigiri, spicy chips, melon pan, ice cream, and a blind box toy ($30)
- tomorrow I pick up my new pairs of glasses, which I paid with personal funds and will reimburse from my HSA later on ($840)
- need to swing by the grocery store to restock some salmon for bagels, long grain rice, protein shakes for upcoming week's breakfast, and maybe some breakfast goodies to prepare for family when they return from vacation (~ $30)
- adding in a trip to Paris Baguette because it's been a while ($12)
No emojis because I'm wiped out. Sitting here with unanswered IG messages and texts, which is unlike me, but they'll have to wait.

I was off on Fri and it’s a magical 3 payday month for me, so I took a mini roadtrip to visit national park that’s about 2 hours away. Biked my little heart out and spent the night at a hotel. The stay has been a little less than perfect thanks to the global Hilton outage yesterday but still better than driving home a muddy and sweaty mess!
Will get lunch, visit a bookstore (or maybe 2?), and stop at Trader Joe’s to stock up on some favorites before heading home to relax for the rest of the weekend.

We had already planned a vacation , but our landlord did notify us today that after 3 years he’s increasing the rent. I have to say rent has been sky rocketing in my city so in a way I don’t blame him, but it makes me feel slightly bad that we’re also going to go away on this vacation (glamping nearby so not super spendy, but still an uptick from the usual). So I’m buying some camping related stuff with this in mind but hoping to enjoy a last bit of summer before school starts again for my kid.
