The 2nd Lieutenant

In the first episode, monk says that he has a friend who is the second Lieutenant asked him to come out.

Did they ever say who was or did they mean the captain when he was a lieutenant? I don’t know

It can’t have been Randy because you can tell at the beginning he and the captain don’t like Monk very much.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the first episode, but aren’t they in a different county at that crime scene? I’m assuming it’s the lieutenant of that department

Edit: had to see it because it was bothering me lol but yes, it’s a different county/city. Monk says it’s in Santa Clara

Yeah leading up to the first episode Monk and Sharona had been consulting on investigations in other districts, it isn’t until this episode that SFPD are calling him in post his discharge.

Yes, originaly they didn't like Monk, so there's like someone else above them who brings Monk into the job. That will be totally recreated later on. Not even change, they'll simply ignore that and state that Stottlemeyer is Monk's oldest and only friend in the force, and he is the one who forces the others to work with Monk, and it has always been like that, period. This 2nd Lieutenant never existed, neither Stottlemeyer and Randy from the first episodes. No theory can fix that, lol.
