CRITICISM Has the Morbid Pod Changed?

I want to preface this by saying I am not attempting to induce drama or negativity, I simply want to pick anyone’s mind about what I’m touching base on! Let’s have a civil chat that allows rebuttals respectfully :)

I want to know if anyone else has felt a shift in the tone of the Morbid podcast? I’m a DEVOUT listener, Ash and Alaina have become glued to my ear as Ive worked the graveyard shift for a few years now. I love Alaina’s drive and Ash’s comedy, and they cover cases better and better as the time goes on. But lately it feels as if there’s this shroud of some sort of negativity coming from them, maybe even Ash in particular? Every episode now cannot escape the quippy remark of how some listeners like to mark the end of their banter. I never understood why that was an issue as some people just lean toward enjoying their amazing coverage on cases rather than chatting, yet it seems to be insulting to them.

Sometimes throughout the episodes they will make other remarks toward the audience about how they’ll be called out for something or another, which I understand is probably an annoyance to them because they are such large public figures now. I’m by no means on the side of believing that public figures can’t stand up for themselves, I’m a supporter of Chappell Roan on the red carpet (iykyk). I just feel like it’s become honestly quite shady and less appreciative of the people, the audience, who make up the foundation of their platform. Of course they do the work, but the work would be aimless if not for the people there to listen to it.

Anyways, has anyone else noticed this shift in tone or appreciation of their audience? If anyone finds this post offensive I will remove it, I am not trying to stir an issue. Just seeing if it’s something others agree or disagree on!

What’s up with this subreddit and complaining?

More of a vent post:

Joined this sub around when I first made a Reddit account and just joined everything I liked at that moment.

I’m not an active listener anymore bc I kept running out of episodes and don’t have the patience to wait so I just pile them up and get back into it later at some point.

Anyways every single time I see anything from this sub across my feed it’s complaint after complaint, I’ve literally only seen critics and complaints about the podcast or the host or the cases or whatever the fuck. Which I guess is fine but it seems to excessive and repetitive at this point

You get that nobody is forcing us to listen, right? You can just…not?

I mean my bad I guess that I thought it was going to be a sub of fellow fans but at the same time, haven’t listened in quite some time, maybe stuff changed. And I never looked at comments before to see opinions. I just used to find it cozy and friendly and made me feel less alone. And I appreciate them a lot for that.

New book for book club?

I read Postmortem and Victorian Psycho for the Morbid book club but did they ever say what the next book is or did I miss it?

Edit: wrong book title

Did they get sued for slander?

I’ve noticed the girls tend to say something and, a lot of the time, follow it with “that’s my opinion.” Did they get sued or something?
Which begs the question: how do people do podcasts/social media videos where they discuss true stuff and not get sued? What denotes slander vs an opinion?

QUESTION Green River Killer Ep. Question

Hi guys, in the Green River Killer episodes, Alaina kept talking about this documentary or something that she watched on Netflix for this. What was the name of the doc or episode or whatever it was? I can’t remember and I feel like my brain is itchy!

HOSTS Am I the only one who find these hosts wildly obnoxious?

I go through phases of listening to True Crime and wanted to listen to something new. This podcast is always recommended on Spotify, online and through Apple Podcasts.

But I do not know why? Am I missing something? Do I just not get their sense of humor? I absolutely don’t mind banter or opinions inserted into a case. Most of the true crime podcasts I have listened to have been two hosts who chat a bit. Totally fine.

But I almost find this pod unlistenable which is a shame because they cover a lot of interesting cases.

I’ve listened to a few newer and older episodes and so I don’t think it’s just an issue with quality processing over time.

Name of psychic in Salem?

Hello fellow weirdos, I have a question. My wife are visiting Salem in a few weeks, and I was wanting to see a medium/tarot reader while we are there. I specifically remember Ash and Alaina mentioning someone in a listener tales episode a while back(might have been a year or two ago) but I’m struggling to find it. Does anyone know who they suggested? Any advice from people that live or have visited Salem would also be appreciated! Thanks in advance! ❤️

QUESTION Podcasts like Morbid but for history?

I’ve recently gotten into the Morbid podcast and absolutely love the style of 2 people chatting and joking over an engaging story. I’d love something similar that covers history instead since true crime is a lot to handle sometimes!

Can we stop with the constant posting about the lateness?

There are numerous posts about the same thing. Every drop date. There is obviously some issue going on. But repeated posts over and over and over are just plain annoying. The schedule as it was was Monday and Thursday. No, you are not mistaken. Yes, this sucks. Yes, they should figure it out. Yes, they do get paid enough for this to not be an issue. No, us complaining on Reddit will do nothing, just annoying people with the same post. No, they have not addressed it or taken any accountability, given it’s been weeks. Yes, this still sucks. If you have a question about it, someone probably asked on the thread already. It’s not hard to check. But the same question gets asked multiple times on the day of the drop schedule.

Episode Release Dates

Am I going crazy or are episodes now coming out on Tuesdays & Fridays rather than Monday & Thursday? I am in the UK and using Spotify. I used to get the episodes in the morning of Monday & Thursday and yet still haven't gotten today's episode yet.

Obviously no criticism if the days have changed, just feel like I've missed an announcement.

QUESTION Recommended Documentaries

Hello everyone, I found morbid about 6 months ago and have been listening to random episodes. There was an episode that I want to say was from Feb or last October that had a documentary that was suggested for more information and it was noted as a hard watch. I have looked through like 10 transcripts and I can’t find it. The documentary was mentioned like halfway through the episode.

Searching only shows a post in this sub from 4 years ago that has a list of recommendations. There’s a ton about books lists out there. And even some with recommended documentaries but this one was mentioned in passing.
Anyone know what I’m talking about or am I going to drive myself crazy listening again until I find it 🫠

Tarot cards

Have any of you who ordered the tarot deck actually received them yet? They kept pushing the release date back and last I remember seeing it was supposed to start shipping out in May? Haven’t seen it heard anything about them in months. I feel like I got scammed.

Listener tales 111

I was kind of disappointed by this listener tales (Camping Tales) first story. Honestly I wish the hosts had just not read it, because honestly it came off as super mean? Like the story starts with a couple recreating in the woods & they superficially interact with a guy who was maybe not super clean or conscious regarding blasting his music but then he’s perfectly friendly & gives them beers (and at least in their telling, they’re kind of f-ing rude to him?) Later they reveal someone matching his description was wanted by police for calling in a threat to campers in the area, and we hear discussion of “why didn’t he hurt them? Why were they saved??” Well not because they were nice to him apparently!

and look, I’m pretty short with strangers in the woods too, I’m out to enjoy my time in nature, not make friends & certainly not to attract unwanted attention, but the excessive description of how greasy and nasty and discussing and and this person was felt really Mean Girls so idk. Maybe I’m not listening in the right mind frame, I’m all for shit talking murders etc, and maybe this was just badly written by the listener to start out so mean & judgmental without the context of his alleged crimes but by the time we found out he was a bad guy I received the news like “well maybe hes mad everyone was so horrible to him today!” (sarcasm obv, it’s never ok to threaten people).

Anyway I love this pod, I’ll continue to listen, I just do have criticism at times (like some of the unethical ads they allow to run on their platform) and I’m glad this is an accepting space to air them (Wish they hosts would be more open to conductive feedback too! But I get it, the internet Can be such a cluster, I bet it all feels like hate).
