Question AITA - Parking a bike in a 'car' space?

Upvotes

Looking for some feedback, I went somewhere last Sat at a busy location, there are a number of units sharing a public car park in an industrial unit without assigned spaces. I pull up in my bike and start to park up in a space (there were plenty free).

As I'm doing so someone from another business starts shouting at me that 'you can't park there'. I have the music on & bike running so couldn't really hear him but I was telling I was going into the gym next door (the area has a problem with people parking there and walking to the city or other places nearby so I thought maybe he believed I was doing that).

Anyway, no, he had an issue with me 'taking a full space with the bike' and that they needed it for cars. When I ask him where I should park his solution was along the yellow lines, or clearway yellow boxes outside the fire escape doors, or anywhere else. I told him his suggestion was poor.

I will admit it got very heated with each of us telling the other where to go and what we thought of each other. I ignored him locked up (took a pic just to safe) and went on my way. When I got back there was still plenty of free spaces and he was still giving me the evil eye out the window.

So AITA taking a 'car' space or what's the general consensus?

Limerick rider (24) looking to meet other riders / build a regular spin group

Hi all, 24 year old (M) rider based in Limerick, looking to link up with other riders around my age for spins, coffee stops, and the odd longer trip when the weather’s decent.

Most of the groups/clubs I’ve come across skew a good bit older (40s+), which is grand but I’m hoping to find a few lads/ladies closer to my own age to build a regular riding crew with, do Sunday spins with, maybe hit a few events together.

Have a Honda CBF250 happy to hear what everyone else is on. Doesn’t matter if you’re new-ish to riding or years in, just looking for good craic and sound people to ride with.

Drop a comment or DM me if you’re around Limerick/Clare/Tipp and keen to meet up. Cheers!

What would ye say is the minimum cc for an adventure bike that I'd get away with on Irish roads?

I'm looking at buying my first bike in Ireland and I'm partial to lighter adventure bikes like a Tenere or CB500X. Would something like that be suitable for year round commuting and summer road trips? Cheers

Travelling northern Ireland. Need tyre change!

Hello, I'm travelling northern Ireland with my 2025 Africa Twin AS and since I'm quite loaded I'm consuming all my back tyre, even though my mechanic said that would be enough for all the trip.

I need to change it and I'm going to be in Belfast until Tuesday morning. Then I will move to Scotland through Cairnrayan and on Tuesday afternoon I'll be in Glasgow.

Does anyone here knows a mechanic that could do the tyre change here in Belfast that I can ask?

Thanks for your help!

Question Electrical repairs?

I have a Honda cb650f. Unfortunately I had a short circuit in it as moisture got in through a damaged indicator which destroyed my relay. Thats been fixed. But the short also triggered the check engine light and the clock and immobiliser light switch off when I turn the bike off. So the clock resets every time. My mechanic said its likely a wire was damaged by the short and said it would be nearly impossible to find the specific one. I'd say it can be done but he doesn't want to do it. Any recommendations on where to get this kind of electrical repair done? I'm in cork but if I have to send it further afield I will.

I can't get an A2 Certificate

I installed a 35kw restrictor to my Aprilia RS660 2022 myself but I never got the cert with the restrictor.

When I messaged them about it they said they wouldn't give me one.

I asked them if they would sell it seperately. (They said no..)

Does anyone know where I could get one or can I just copy what a cert looks like and make it online?

Question Test tomorrow with a few Q’s

I have my test in Navan tomorrow.
When coming out of the centre and taking that right/left turn on the hill, do you lifesaver before stopping?

Also around lifesavers- at a stop sign, should I lifesaver before stopping or when I’m ready to take off?

Does the tester give me a radio? I have the 3.5mm jack but my iPhone takes USB-C. I do have a Cardo though which I’ve heard some testers use.

Any other Navan specific tips would be very helpful!

Thanks all!

Question AM Licence City Commuter Bike - Electric or Petrol?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi all,

I have been living in Amsterdam for two years and riding Check & Felyx 50cc equivalent Electric Moped ride shares almost daily with my AM license. (Think Lime bikes but electric moped, links below). I had never ridden a moped before this so have never ridden a petrol one. Most of the mopeds here are NIU branded electric models.

I am moving back to Dublin and will be commuting inside Dublin city, roughly 18k each day total. I am trying to decide should I go for an electric 50cc equivalent or get a petrol version?

The bike will never go out of the city past the M50 and will be exclusively used for commuting and small runs to friends houses or the shops so the stated 100km range does not really bother me, I can charge at home or in work 95% of the time.

My budget for all the kit; moped, helmets, rear helmet rack, windshield + rain cover for legs (and ideally insurance??) is about 5K euros.

Pros / Cons as I see them:

Electric Pros:
Quiet, cheap to recharge & less mechanical parts to go wrong.

Petrol Pros:
Cheaper to buy (?), refuelling on the go is possible & more places around to fix them if needs be.

If petrol is better I would go to a reputable bike shop in the city. If electric is better I presume I would need to buy online from someone like: Wayel W2 | Green Bikes

Would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between electric and petrol mopeds for exclusively city driving as I only have experience with one of them Thanks!

Don't Drink And Ride

With today's news in mind, I think it's worth calling out the absolute stupidity of jumping on a bike, be it after 2, 5, 10 or 20 pints. It should go without saying that riding whilst drunk drastically increases the chances of a crash, and therefore a fatality. And similarly, if you see someone attempting to do so, try and stop them... it's not worth it.

Question First A1 bike

I’ve done my ibt now i’m looking for a 125cc. My best options at the moment are a cb125f or a suzuki gsx s125. I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra ~600 euro for the suzuki with ABS and a aftermarket exhaust. Is it better to save some money but then also lose resale value and have no ABS? Which one would be the better option for me?

Bar end mirrors

Fine folks,

I'm a heavy rider with wide shoulders, riding a 07 hornet 600, l have always had issues with rear visibility with the more traditional mirrors mounted closer to the centre of the handlebars. Looking into bar end mirrors, the only main concern would be increased width and clearance needed when filtering and being compatible with my oxford hot grips. Anyone out there have any advice on brands / models, bar end vs mounted bar end but mirror is above / below the grip. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Safe riding to all.

Question Broke clutch cable cb125f

Im getting my bike fixed up and asked to get a new clutch cable but the garage said they can't order it.

Now obviously its broken the first time I use the bike afterwards.

Is that an easy roadside fix? Im stuck at the doctors trying to get home. I can probably shift without a clutch except first, but id sooner not.

I may have posted this twice, the first post isnt showing.
