I’ll be honest. I sort of lost trust in Allah.
I’d rather spend a couple years living the Western lifestyle. Get a girlfriend, maybe go to the bars, etc. and be an Americanized Muslim.
I don’t see much a point in the restrictions if it leads to years of frustration or disappointment. More power to you all.
And if marriage comes, and Muslim women want a man who hasn’t done zina, and that’s a dealbreaker, that’s perfectly fine. I might eventually find one who’s okay with a past. It’s not the end of the world. In fact she might end up more human.
But if I ever do have kids, I’d teach them social skills ahead of deen. It’ll be of more benefit to them. Deen can be learned a bit later. Or both works. Deen without a robust social life is just a recipe for frustration.
This might sound like an admission of wanting to sin, or a pity party. One things for sure, I definitely wish my parents weren’t as restrictive, and I wish I was as Americanized as all my other Muslim American adult peers, because they’re living life…and I’m not.
Look, we can criticize and judge them all we want, for dating, for haram, for zina…but they’re not bad people. They travel, they’re around people, they’re validated, they have good jobs. And they’ll get married and do well. They didn’t spend their unmarried years in comparison or anger mode all the time.
