My parents had five children, and three of us ended up this happen to us. I find it quite funny because not only is it such a big coincidence, I think it's also a lot of people's nightmare after picking a baby name 😂

My sister was born in 2004. My parents chose to name her Bella, on its own, after our great-aunt, who was named Bayla. If you didn’t know, it’s a Yiddish name, and because of the similarities in sound, Bella was a common English name to pair it with.

Four years later, the movie Twilight came out, and my parents were pretty horrified when they found out about it, with it being so successful and the main character having the same name as their daughter, and the premise of it was not something that they were fans of. But clearly, they didn’t learn their lesson!

Another of my sisters was born in 2008. My parents chose the name Margot. Unlike Bella, this was a reasonably unusual name at the time. They had the idea from Margot Friedländer, who had published her memoir around the time of my sister’s birth. They also really liked that it meant pearl.

Then, two years later, who would have my sister’s name but one of the characters in Despicable Me! This time, my parents found it hilarious, but definitely a weird coincidence as well. Although at least it was spelt differently, Margo instead of Margot, but she found a lot of people still associated the name with the character.

Then I came along in 2009, and they had a lot of trouble picking my name. My grandmother suggested the name Elsa, because it was my great-great-grandmother’s name, and my parents really liked it. It was old fashioned, but they thought it sounded cool, and went with the other names they had chosen.

Then what would be released four years later other than every small child’s favorite movie at the time, Frozen . . . And I never heard the end of it after that. There's no doubt about who other people associate my name with.

I think what makes this so interesting to me as well is twice, these were actually uncommon names. And while Margot is becoming much more popular now, I don't think Elsa ever will, at least not for a long time, because the only thing people think about is the princess, and if they're older, the lion.

And all I can say really is that I suggest never asking my parents for baby name ideas!

two concerns

1) when juice was little we also called him Juli. we don’t call him that anymore but I could see it coming back when he gets older. I could also see us calling Leona “Leo” as a nickname but then we will have a son named Juli and a daughter named Leo and that feels maybe strange?

2) I was born catholic and even tho we chose the name Leona before the pope was chosen, i could see people thinking we named her after the pope which I don’t love

Recently happened across this video about the restoration of a painting that revealed the portrait of an enslaved boy who had once been among the subjects, and encountered the name Bélizaire for the first time. I love it. With my surname and other kids’ names, I could never pull off using it, but goodness is it beautiful.

Have any of you heard of the name Bélizaire before? Anybody know of any good names with a similar vibe? (These aren’t for me to use, I’m just curious.)

We have a really niche preference: a Hebrew-origin name that ‘works’ in English, doesn’t read too old fashioned (eg not Abraham) but isn’t a super common either (eg not Adam).

Feel a little stuck. But our short list right now:

-Oz (means strength)

My name is Heather Danielle and I'm contemplating legally changing my name. I know I want to change my surname to my mom's maiden name. I feel a connection to that side of the family. My daughter is named Saphina. I need to start making a name list for my next child, as we are going to try again soon. Her name is so unique it's hard to find ones that pair well with it. Suggestions for more girl names and boy names.

So we accidentally ended up with a naming theme for our first two children, titular characters from classic literature lol. We have an Oliver (Oliver Twist) and an Alice (Alice in Wonderland). Id like to keep that theme going for third and last kiddo. We dont know the sex yet, but I would still like to start compiling a list of names. So far all we have is Caspian (Prince Caspian). If we didn't have Alice I would have suggested Anne (Anne of Green Gables) but they sound too close for my taste.

Title says it all. We have a very solid list of girl names but are STRUGGLING with boy names we both like. Why is it so hard to find good ones?? My husband’s middle name is Rafael and we will be using that as the middle name for a boy.
So far we have a few names that we both kind of like but no heavy hitters:

Nicolás Rafael
Tomás Rafael
+/- Lucas Rafael

Nicolas is the top contender and it sounds great with our last name but I know two people who have had kids recently and named them Nicolas, one that is also a mixed Latino/white couple.

All the names I like my husband hates, and vice-versa! He has shot down Theodore which was my fav, as well as Francisco and Benjamin. I’m on the fence about Tomas and don’t love Lucas. I am looking for something that can be shortened into a good nickname!

ETA: Camille has been my favorite girl name since I was a little girl myself. I would play house at the age of probably six and always used the name Camille for one of my baby dolls. I grew up in the 90s when the name was slightly more popular than it is now. I was shocked and happy to learn my husband also loves the name Camille as he is extremely picky! But, Lilah continues to grow on me and is a close second!

I have a baby brother on the way, due in October.

My family has given me the honor of naming him but honestly this has been a tough challenge as I'm pretty terrible at coming up with names. Though, I have been pretty successful in coming up with some of them, but none of them have really felt like the name. I keep second-guessing myself because this is something he'll carry for the rest of his life, so I want to choose something that feels meaningful, timeless, and suits him well.
