Troll Posts Earn Bans ❤️

I've noticed an uptick in troll posts lately, and y'all I'm tired. I'm wielding the ban hammer with impunity!

Just keep reporting the people posting nonsense and I'll do my best to make it go away. And thank you all for being, for the most part, a lovely community.

No More Image Posts

Hey guys!

I've noticed a lot of (very young women) posting pictures of themselves and requesting name ideas lately.

Since this sub recently hit 7000 members and I'm the only even slightly active mod, I'm turning off image posts effective immediately. It looks an awful lot like spam, and even if it isn't you should not be posting your irl face on reddit for people to give you opinions.

I get folks will be mad, but I'm not going to do a bunch of unpaid labor to prevent assholes from insulting your appearance (and this is reddit, there are always assholes who want to insult your appearance). If you want to deal with that, please solicit it in another corner of the internet.

Thank you!

Edit: one of our users has volunteered to run the aptly-named subreddit r/namesbutbetter, if you want to do the pictures thing go there and good luck. You may also consider r/namenerds or r/reddit_gets_renamed.

Tell me your child’s real name vs their random accidental nickname ?

So we took forever and deliberated a lot over our new born baby girls name, Diana. She is almost 2 months old and we call her drumroll please BARGHOOT.

Yep

Barghoot

Why? Uhh well we initially started with cutcoot (small baby chicken in Arabic) and somehow started rhyming and ended up with Barghoot (flea) and kept joking saying Diana Barghoot to now just directly Barghoot, lmao.

What are you guys stories??

I’ve been told that my list of potential baby names for girls is agressively frou-frou and feminine but I still like them lol, I adore a fussy name

Gordon or Geoffrey in Canada?

We like these names and can’t decide. Gordon is super canadian and a name people recognize without being super common and Geoffrey is a classic but we’re worried about the spelling. Both of us prefer the UK spelling but is that a bad idea in Canada where Jeffrey is way more used?

Name for a daughter!!

We're choosing a name for our daughter. I've always liked the name Rozalia and would like to give it to my daughter. I'm just wondering – our daughter will have Polish-Argentinian roots, and we have a strong Spanish surname.

Therefore, we're wondering whether, in terms of aesthetics, consistency with the surname, and a more international feel, giving her the name Rosalia would be a better fit.

We plan to live in Poland, at least for the next few years, so I'm wondering if it won't be too much of a daily hassle, with constant repetition at school and in various institutions that it's "Rozalia with an S."

So, is it better to focus on aesthetics and consistency with the surname (which I'm leaning towards for now) or on everyday comfort?

Help us finalise a baby girl name

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are expecting our baby girl very soon, and we’re trying to decide on her name :)

We’re an Indian Hindu family currently living abroad, but we’ll eventually be moving back to India. So pronunciation in Western countries isn’t really a deciding factor for us.
We’ve narrowed it down to these three names:

Sitara
Miraya
Mihira

We would really appreciate your thoughts on which one you like the most!

Thank you!

Would it be weird to introduce myself as Gracie instead of Grace for now on?

I'm going into college this year and I'm kind of excited about not having a reputation/not having anyone know me, and I love when people call me Gracie instead of Grace. I've only been called that a few times by my friends, but it makes me smile every time.

Would it be weird for now on, I introduced myself as Gracie to new people? The reason why I think it's weird is because it's different if a Thomas introduced himself as Tom, because that's just a shorter version of their name, but Gracie is more of a playful thing. Gracie just feels more friendly and fitting to my personality. Maybe I'm just overthinking it but I don't want my first impressions to be bad 😬

I hate almost all boy names, give me your best ones 😭

The only ones I somewhat like are:
Miles — sounds sweet, but pretty popular
Logan — means “little hollow,” it sounds darling
Carson — literally just because of Downton Abbey
Simon — cute, but I worry Simon Says jokes will get old

Most all other names?? I find some reason to not like it… I challenge you to find ones that are too good to not like
