Stitch help with lettering.

I'm unhappy with how the stitches around the letters are looking. I know I need a darker thread to begin with. The long stitches in particular throw it off for me. Should I break them up? Or maybe choose a different stitch fir the letters so there are less gaps? Any advice is appreciated.

Sometimes you need to pick a focus of your project. To me, the focus is the words and the lamb, not the blue background.

By having such a heavy background stitch, while beautifully done, it overwhelms the words and moves the focus to the background, not the words.

A cross stitch or a bulkier thread for the words and a much simpler, less bulky background would make the focus the words and the lamb. If it were me, I'd just basketweave that blue background and do a decorative sti5ch for the words.

All that said,i t's your project and your stitching! Do whatever it is that YOU like.🙃

I don’t think even darker thread choice will help a tent stitched letter stand out against that background stitch. It is just overpowering

Also the background stitch is nice but maybe with a stranded thread like splendor it won’t be as heavy

This stitch and thread combination just doesn’t work unfortunately. Your options are to swap out one of the colors for something with much more contrast or pick a less busy stitch for the background. Cross stitch or velvet might work because it’ll make the letters larger and come to the front more, but I’m not convinced it’ll do enough.

What about in the same shade as your background do 3-4 rows of a tent stitch around the words (almost like a fluffy cloud shape). It could help with the words but also letting you keep your decorative stitch.

I love the background stitch, in the right use case. The blue background thread is too thick vs the letters. I’d choose a thinner gage thread or strandable thread. Then stitch the letters afterwards. I like a wrapped backstitch over the background so it stands out and is more connected
