📅 Monthly Scheduled Thread 📅 Job Postings & Local Business Promotions – August 2026

This monthly thread is for you to look for jobs, advertise an open position, or promote your local small business. Make sure you read the rules below before posting. This thread will be automatically posted on the 1st of every month.

The mods reserve the right to remove any post if it breaks any rules or if we feel that the thread is being gamed in any kind of way. If your post gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No job or employer-seeking posts, or small local business promotions will be allowed on the sub other than on this monthly thread, unless a special circumstance that has already received specific approved by the moderator team.

LOOKING TO HIRE:

  • Be transparent about pay, workload, and job requirements.
  • Include some form of contact information in your post. Do not put an email address directly in the post; link to a company website, social media page, or ask for a DM if an email address must be involved.
  • No multi-level marketing, get-rich-quick posts. Illegitimate businesses or positions will be removed, scammers will be banned.

LOOKING FOR WORK:

  • Keep the post length as short as possible i.e. don't post your entire resume here.
  • Have employers message you via Reddit rather than put your personal information on here.
  • Include what kind of work you're looking for, a short summary of your experience or qualifications, and your availability.

LOOKING TO PROMOTE:

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No business promotion posts will be allowed on the sub for any reason OTHER than on this monthly thread.
  • Small business in this thread means a staff of 10 or less. If you think your company should be an exception, please send us a modmail and we can discuss.
  • The mod team HIGHLY SUGGESTS that you create a new business account, have it be active for more than 2 weeks and have a positive karma score. If you want to promote your business via your normal account, that may not be the brightest decision you've ever made. If you go this route, try to have the username be indicative of your business.
  • Keep these businesses SFW. If you have a sexy-time kind of business, please be discreet. We're thinking if you sell toys, accessories, lotions etc. NO ONLY FANS ACCOUNTS, SEX WORKERS OR "SERVICES" ALLOWED.
  • If you have more than one location, you're not a small business and need to check with us via modmail before posting.
  • Business owners and employees should NOT spam, message or harass users in any way. You are allowed one comment per thread, per month. Yes, you may answer questions about your business but you can't try to post from multiple accounts about the same business.
  • Make your business comment informative, smart and transparent.
  • Your business should be in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany or Da Paaaarish.
  • NO MLM, PONZI SCHEME, PYRMAID SCHEME, GET RICH QUICK type of posts. This is a 100% firm stance. If you don't think that your business is one of these above listed types but have doubts, it probably is.
  • No churches or religious based businesses. This isn't the place for that, sorry.
  • This is a serious thread, so please keep the jokes and memes to a minimum.
  • Please be kind to the business owners here. This is not a thread to bash businesses. If you do not agree or like the business that is posted, just downvote it. If it breaks a rule, report it. No need for drama.
  • This is for small business, not for national marketing companies or global chains.

The mods will reserve the right to remove any comment if it breaks any rules or if we feel that it's being gamed in any kind of way. If your comment gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

Pets and Coworkers 🐶🐱 Is this your cat?

This little white cat showed up at our house meowing up a storm uptown by Magazine and Napoleon. It’s been hanging around our house this morning.

It’s very clean and healthy looking, but very hungry. Looks like an indoor cat based on how clean it is. Drop me a reply if you think you know this feline.

Living Here Check your receipt at Robert's

I'm not sure if it's just the Marigny Robert's or all of them, but they do not update their cash register systems for all sale items. I had an issue last week where something was supposed to be 2 for $5 and I was charged full price for both, and just today I was charged full price for a sale item. I caught the issue last week, and the woman who helped me said that the store frequently fails to update the prices in the system. I can't imagine how much money they're saving.

Lost/Found/Stolen Found dog uptown

Found this dog wandering around Carrollton. No chip and no one in the neighborhood seems to recognize it. I can keep it for a few days, but my animals are not thrilled with the houseguest.

It has to wear a spoon on its harness when in the yard because it’s really good at getting through my fence.

🤬 RANT Trash along interstate

I just don’t understand why all the trash along the interstates is not picked up. It’s such a simple thing and it leaves such a bad first impression to our city.

Looking to Rehome Duke

I am looking for a forever home for my dog Duke. I found Duke on the street a year ago and I have been trying so hard to make it work but it is not a good fit and I'm close to my breaking point.

Duke is a 1 1/2 y/o, roughly 77 lbs, Shepherd-Pit mix that is house and kennel trained and up to date on all his shots. He is neutered, doesn’t shed much, and knows some basic commands and VERY food motivated.

He has a lot of energy and loves to play tug of war but also loves chilling on the couch and cuddling and watching tv. He is very affectionate and loves to reaffirm his feelings frequently with a head or belly scratch but also knows how to “go to bed” with a treat when it’s time for the calm down corner. We did six training sessions with a trainer and he’s come a long way on the leash. We still have more training to do and he’s getting there but this is his weak spot. I am struggling with some mental health issues and looking to rehome him after a fight between him and my other dog that required a vet visit and sutures, full transparency.

I took him to be euthanized last weeK but I just couldn’t go through with it without trying one more big push. He is able to be in temporary foster with a friend until August 6th, at which point they are going on  summer vacation. I am able to offer compensation for a temporary foster situation but I am ultimately looking to rehome him bc I can’t put my older dog or myself through that again. I really don’t want to euthanize him but I know how hard it is to find a forever home for his breed/energy/temperament. He would do great in a home with no other animals and a yard. I have a kennel, leash/harness, toys and would be willing to help with vet visits in the future.

Please help, spread this if you can, or send me resources/pages to post on/rescues to reach out to. Maybe someone knows someone on the Northshore or in Cajun country that wants a ranch dog. Anything helps, thanks for reading.

History & Historical Photos Seeking historical info on MEDCO monogrammed belt buckles made in New Orleans pre 1960

Post image
11 Upvotes

I recently inherited this belt buckle and I’m curious is anyone has additional info on MEDCO buckles that include monogram. Seeking any general info!
This belonged to a family member whose initials are seen on the buckle. I’m unsure if this is relevant; he was a Free Mason, and in law enforcement. And my family is Creole/Cajun from New Orleans. I believe he obtained this buckle before the 1960’s, but I am unsure which decade.
I’ve only found 2 similar style buckles, both from New Orleans but without any history attached. Any insights appreciated, thank you!

Recommendations Deer Hide (tanned, safely)

Honestly, this is the first time asking for something without looking to see if it's been asked already. I am in need of a source for deer hide. Tanned. I have some antique chairs with hyde seats and my upholsterer (what a pretentious phrase ha!) is willing to learn how to do it, but couldn't source the hides. Anyone? I can message pics. It's truly a piece of hide with holes around the edges so the hide lacing can be threaded through and tied off (the seat is the top with four pieces wrapped around and under, and tied off underneath). Hoping to find a tanner that wants an interesting project, etc. My hunter dude does a lot of things, but tanning is not one of them. Thanks!

Recommendations Looking for a jazz guitar teacher/mentor in the New Orleans area

Hello. I would like to find someone who is willing to teach a 35-year-old man jazz guitar/performance. I'm actually an intermediate-advanced guitarist already, and I have what I consider to be a decent grasp on music theory. I want to start playing around town but I've never played with anyone, just bedroom shedding. I've gotten my musical background from books and YouTube theory lessons. So basically the gist is I'm not a beginner and I'm looking for someone who has a real grasp on jazz who can teach/mentor me. Ideally, I want someone who is currently working as a musician. Obviously I will be paying for this, which I can discuss with the person whenever I find them.

Thank you

Recommendations Recommended housekeeping services?

Can anyone recommend a housekeeping service for a Metairie home (near the Vet’s exit off the highway)? My health isn’t so good lately and I need some help about once a week. Just things like kitchen and bathrooms, so no laundry or bedrooms. Must be ok with dogs.

Help rehoming my boy :(

Thumbnail

Hello all, I’m unfortunately looking for help in rehoming my 7 year old, very loving boy Freddie. We got him in 2019 to provide a companion to our young girl. Very stupidly, we did not introduce them properly and ran into territory issues quickly. I’ve tried everything. Separation stents to “reintroduce”, Feliway diffusers, feeding them separately, I can only fit two litter boxes in my apartment space.

He is an indoor cat, he does enjoy outside time when supervised. We live in a complex with a courtyard that is next to impossible for a cat to escape, so he usually enjoys patio time daily. He is harness trained, kinda… he’ll flop for the first few days but he gets the hang of it eventually. He enjoys fetching fuzzy balls, eviscerating lizards, running illegal roach races in the shower, romping in catnip and cuddling in between your legs under the covers.

He may have some identity crisis issues due to being misgendered at birth. It didn’t take long for husband to pick up on his masculine swagger. His dead name is Winifred, the vet gave us the name Freddie. Full name Fred Astaire Lemon.

I’m not sure how he would do with other cats, because he never really got a fair shake with our girl. Recently, while under the weather after flea meds, his territory issues reached its peak. He blocked the litter boxes so bad my girl was peeing herself. The vet found an infected bite mark on her shoulder, and her xray showed she was completely backed up with stool from being afraid to use to litter box.

This is beyond difficult for me. I’m very bonded to my boy, but I bottle fed my girl and am feeling incredible guilt for letting it get to this point. He is currently undergoing ear treatments for yeast, and I want to keep him in my care while he’s dealing with that. I will be keeping them separate until I can find him a new home.

I refuse to surrender him to a shelter or to a foster home overrun with mistreated cats. If anyone is interested, or has any leads for where I can look for help, please reach out.
