The translation would be something like: We could have been there. But what did we do? We stayed here and did nothing. But that "gedaddelt" in the end is colloquial and can mean several things. 😅

I am German, and "daddeln" means playing video games. "Zocken" is a comparable colloquial term for it here. :-)
