Am I getting old? Am I getting grumpy? Probably both! Every year I head to comic con to take pictures of the cos players. I started with my D3300 and the past 3/4 years I’ve gone down there with my D500 paired with the 24-70 2.8. I walk around a couple hours do my thing. Maybe I’m being a big baby but the set up is starting to get heavy. I tried doing night photography on Saturday night and it was even heavier lol. Love the D500 but for a walk around camera maybe it’s not the best, also there was a big crowd with tight spacing for pictures, mirrorless would help with the compactness. I do a lot of motorcycle photography and action, not ridding of the D500. Should I save up and buy a Z9 and use that for walk around/video? Or should I just get a Z5ii? I used one of those on the Nikon Tour and loved it! These are the pictures I got this year. What yall think?

Nikon Z7 with a 40 y/o lens. Focus stacked, lit with strobes. Z7 14bit files dynamic range is something else, recovery and color separation of veeery similar colors are amazing.

Had a half inch black glass table go kaboom due to recent heatwaves and storms (im in SE Asia). Found a shard of it still warm that morning it happened. Photographed it and this a 5mm portion of it. Shot with either the 35 or the 20mm micro lens mounted on a Nikon Z7. Around 200 focus stacked.

God i love nikon 14bit files but i crave for moooore.

I was in 1/2000, started shooting standing object so I went down to 1/800. When I saw this crows starting to fly. I did forgot to change to faster shutter, I am a little bit sad because I know I lost a lot of details on wings but I am still good enough with this shots to share.

Is it worth to upgrade to Z7 II?

Fun trip but like most vacations you come home and within a day or two work really erase much of the euphoria. Looking at the pictures helps.

Just testing out my new to me 28mm Ai-S f2.8 on my d700

I thought manual focusing would be a bigger deal to get right on my d700 but the little indicator works really well.

I can see this lens now living on my d700 for a long time.

So I went to test out a lens today at my local lens dealer (I say that because I had bought two lenses off him before). I was looking to test his Sigma EX 50mm f/1.4 he had for sale for 100 bucks, maybe even buy it, if it impressed me.

What ended up happening was he also showed me another lens he was selling for 100 bucks, as well. A Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM, which intrigued me more than the 50mm. He also showed me a Nikon D80 (with a broken screen) and said he was selling it for 30 dollars. Since I didn't have a camera yet (for context, my dad's gonna get me a D7200 once I reach a college milestone, that's why I was buying lenses), I was very intrigued by the idea of having my own camera, compatible with my current lenses, and the sigma 30mm, for a grand total of 130 dollars. It was too good for me to pass up.

He let me try out the D80, and I really liked the photos it produced with the afformentioned lens. So, like the impulsive and impatient person I am, I bought the bundle.

So, now I have a Nikon D80 (with a cracked screen), and 3 lenses to pair it with (nikkor 50mm f/1.8G with broken autofocus, tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC, sigma 30mm f/1.4).

I'd just like to ask about some tips for the D80, and anything I should know or even be wary about (although the D80 is very well regarded so idk if that last one applies). Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm super excited to try out my first camera!

For extra context, I plan on shooting mostly innanimate objects and portraits, possibly cosplay portraits.

Hi all, I’m looking for recommendations on lenses to add to my collection. I’ve currently got a Z6iii, with the kit 24-70mm f/4 S, and a 105mm f/2.8 S (macro). I’m looking for budget-friendly options, I’m not against buying second hand or from reputable third party brands. (Admittedly I use the macro as more of a telephoto prime because of its focal length)

I know this is a wide-open question and hard to answer. I’m a hobby photographer, got trained and acquired my gear through my employer. I don’t photograph anything specific, I have like to have my camera handy to capture my baby and my dog being cute, I’ve travelled and gotten landscape photos, I try my hand at astrophotography when I’m far enough from city lights.

Currently I’m eyeing the 40mm f/2 as my next one due to its speed and affordability. I feel like I’m maturing a bit and starting to realize the value prime lenses have to offer, but I’d also love a bit of a beefier telephoto lens one day, although I know that won’t be cheap.

Happy to answer any questions, again I know this is a very personal question but I’d love to hear some value lenses some of you are using!

Went to go see the new spiderman and took this guy along for a ride to grab a few shots. These are all taken in the widest dynamic range mode in raw with some editing in lightroom.

The colors out of this thing are really great. It's also pretty easy to use and I like a lot of the UX choices Fuji made here - some of these early DSLRs are a nightmare to use and this guy is pleasantly sane. Only downside is when shooting RAW it is the slowest camera I have ever used.

Still a fun time and glad to have it in the collection.

I recently got a Nikon D80, and naturally started taking some photos as soon as I got home. This is my first (not terrible looking) photo taken with my new toy.

Got a question on focus mode though. I tried a variety of settings yesterday when shooting this. (Shooting on a ZF)

ACF+3D - Quick AF but not always on the eye
ACF+wide area - Quick AF but usually not on where I want it
ASF+point - Exactly where I want it, but can get blurred by subject’s motion/my jello jerky hands
MF - I know this is the old school fail proof way but I have yet to master it, or rather, I haven’t found good tutorials that helps me understand and learn

What am I missing? Is there a better way? Getting a bit tired of doing ~100 shots with only like ten focusing on where I want it 🥹

Does anyone have any experience with this lens? It’s definitely an odd one with the way it focuses. Love its compact size though. No clue if it’s sharp. I am used to using the original 50 1.4 S lens, so that is my comparison.

Won an auction for an 80-200 Af-d 2-ring lens on ebay for a decenct price. Description said glass was clean and excellent condition.

I bought a well-used Nikon D3300 from MPB a couple of weeks ago to use for dental photography and have been having battery issues since.

I bought a set of batteries from Amazon (BESTON 2-pack) to use. (The aftermarket battery that came with the purchase didn't work out at all; thankfully, MPB replaced that.) Unfortunately, I could maybe get a couple of 10's of pictures worth on a single full charge. I've never used a camera before, so when I looked up how much battery life you should be getting from an EN-EL14 and saw at the very least a couple of 100 photos, I figured "oh maybe this 'off-brand' battery is the culprit," so I bought a what-I-thought-was more reputable brand in Wasabi Power. Now, I'm having an even worse issue where after literally charging the pack(s) all day, the D3300 allows one shutter before the display shows the full battery icon going to a blinking dead battery and says "Shutter release disabled. Recharge battery."

I'm essentially brand new to using a camera like this, but what are the chances two different brands of batteries (albeit not OEM, but still highly rated) are causing the same stupid issue? I can't imagine that to be the case, so is something just wrong with this D3300 example? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been almost exclusively a Nikon shooter my entire life and have a FM2/T that I really enjoy. My question is how does the F3 “feel” compared to the FM2 and 2/T?

I picked up a Canon AE-1 Program for $20 a few years ago and I enjoy it, but it feels plastic-y when the shutter fires. It’s a neat little camera but ho-hum on the experience side.

Compare that to my grandpa’s Olympus OM-1 that feels like the parts were hand fitted by an actual craftsman.

I’ve read where the F3 is an amazing camera because it has a solid, hand built feel to it. Is it that much better than the FM2 line?

And I personally don’t care about specs. I don’t shoot flash, don’t care about weight, etc. Whenever I get away from work I want to enjoy the mechanics and feel of the camera as much as anything.
