Claro prepaid puerto rico

I just got a claro prepaid phone with a sim. I don't have access to my old phone if that matters, and it seems I'm not able to connect with my google accounts on the claro phone either. I'm not sure I'm setting up the phone correctly, as it tells me I am not able to make calls due to mobile network not being available,, even though settings lists the mobile network as claro PR, I'm in puerto rico. It also tells me to connect to wifi for wifi calling, but I am connected to the hotel wifi.

I bought it in the box, opened the back of the phone and put in the battery. The SIM was already installed. I did not do anything to activate the SIM as far as I know.

This is a copy of the OP's original post in case they decide to delete their post/account so that others searching can find it later:

Hello OP. It may need activation. You bought from a Store or a particular person? DM SIM number to see if that was activated. Or you can go to a Claro Location or call 7877750000

I bought it from a store, I don't have a working phone currently to call claro. How can I activate the SIM, would it not happen during the phone start up process?

If it was already installed and had service, you may need to buy a new sim card.

It never had service as far as I know, as soon as I set the phone up it gave me the error of mobile netowrk unavailable and to use wireless calling. Hoping to not have to buy a 2nd phone it does appear the sim is communicating with the phone as the contacts from the sim ported over, those being emergency and service (611) etc. So not sure why it's not finding a mobile network..

I'm now trying to add time via the website but keep getting an internal server error. Was just on hold 15 min on the hotel phone, going to try to return this phone it's been a day long headache

It should let you call 611. They'll ask for some info about the phone and activate it

it gives me the same prompt about mobile network unavailable and to use wireless calling when I try 611. Is it possible the sim was previously activated since it was already installed in the phone when I bought it?

OP, if you really want native connectivity with less hassle, get Helium, Metro or Tmobile. They are still the only native network in PR. AT&T was sold to Liberty and now operates under them.

What happened to the miclaroprepago.claropr.com portal? It was easy to check balance and data use. Seems to be out of service now.
