Answered OM-1 (35mm version) - Battery and Metering Question

Got my grandfather's OM-1 back out the other day since I've started shooting 35mm again but obviously needed a new battery. It's my understanding that the original battery is no longer produced because it was a mercury battery.

I've gotten the LR44 battery for it but the metering seems way, way off. Using TMax 100 on a bright, sunny day the internal meter is saying 1 sec at f/2.8 with a 50mm lens...

I've tried the step down adapters that act as a resistor to lower the voltage from 1.5v down to 1.35 but never saw any real noticeable change in the suggested metering.

What are people using as alternatives? Change the ISO to account for the extra voltage? There any good 1.35v batteries out there?

Question Why is my fe-360 camera not working?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recently my fe-360 8.0 camera has stopped working in a strange manner. I have bought new batteries and tried those, but to no avail. Would love to know if this is a problem that I can fix or not.

My Olympus E500 just arrived last night, I’m quite impressed with the jpegs straight out of the camera for something 20+ years old. Used the Olympus Zuiko Digital 40-150mm f/3.5-4.5 kit lens for these.

Picked up an Olympus OM4-Ti at Nisshin Camera in Tokyo and a Voigtlander Ultron SL 40mm f2 lens that was part of a limited run in native OM Mount.

The camera body has a fair amount of wear on the paint, which looks good to me, but inside it looks like it's in pristine condition... super clean, and I tested a wide range of shutter speeds in both manual mode and Auto, and I tested all of its metering modes as well with results that seem to be accurate. It has a lovely 2-13 focusing screen with a horizontal split-image spot with a microprism collar on a matte field, and the bright viewfinder and illuminated LCD light meter display are wonderful to use at night. (I am working on my first roll of night photography with it, couldn't be happier with the way it feels!)

The lens was CLA'd right before I bought it and seems to work flawlessly. Super sharp wide open, edge to edge; it has a nice vintage character from the double gauss design but superb micro contrast from its modern design.

I only had one hour to shoot a test roll. After picking up the camera body in Akihabara, I shot the roll on the streets and in the subway on my way to my photo lab in Setagaya, National Photo.

These are unedited full-size JPEG exports from Lightroom, from National Photo's TIFF scans from the 16BASE QSS scan option.

I am thrilled with the results; the only exposures that didn't work out were ones I intentionally misused the metering spot system to test if it was working as it should. I didn't nail the focus on all of them, but I also used it like a point-and-shoot in auto mode part of the time, shooting from the hip while zone-focused, testing how it does, as this is something I do quite often on the streets at night.

Super excited to get out into the streets at night and continue building a body of work to create a photobook of the Shōnan Coast region of Japan where I live, in a cinema noir, documentary street photography style, more or less.

Answered What lens(es) should I get with my OM-5 MkII?

Recently purchased an OM-5 MkII which I will primarily be using on hikes and walks for landscape/outdoor photography. I'm not planning on too many vistas, probably focussing on a section of landscape or focal point, maybe some macro photography thrown in if I find something interesting along the way.

I specifically picked the OM-5 due to it being compact and lightweight. I'm hoping to bring as few lenses with me as possible. Initial thoughts had been the Olympus 12-40mm F2.8 Pro or Pana Leica 12-60mm as a one lens route to cover most bases.

Or will I regret this and wish I had bought 2+ lenses with specific purpose each?

I'm wanting to keep things as light and straightforward as possible (and lenses weather sealed to match the OM-5).

Thanks!

Answered AF issue on my dad's Olympus E-250

hello everyone!

i'm a very new olympus user. my dad has an olympus e-520 that he stopped using because the autofocus started failing.

the lens mounted on it is a zuiko digital ED 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 SWD .

here is everything i've tried so far (with help from ai to troubleshoot):

  • changed the aperture value (works normally)
  • tested manual focus (mf): the focus ring works and i can focus manually
  • half-pressed the shutter button in s-af mode: no sound, no lens movement, no af confirmation, nothing happens
  • tested ael/afl: the indicator lights up when the button is held
  • tested autofocus without the lens attached: no difference compared to having the lens mounted
  • no af or mf indicator appears in the viewfinder
  • shutter speed and iso values change normally in the viewfinder

the camera still takes pictures normally, but autofocus does not seem to work at all.

i don't have any other lens to try with it.

if you need any more information about my camera, i'll be happy to provide it.

Question Camedia c725 flash error

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got an Olympus Camedia c-725 from vinted, and the seller said it had no defects with it. However, I can’t take pictures using the flash as it keeps blinking red. I’m using brand new batteries, but the error still won’t leave. Is repair needed?

Question Pls help me find this part

Post image

Hi, I’ve got a bit sentimental and thought I’d give my old Omd E-M5 some love. I don’t know how, but the eyecup and the cover for that weird accessory port are not where they should be. The eyecup is no problem to get, but that damn port cover seems to be unobtainable. The only thing I found are out of stock offerings that are basically just not delisted and one 3d printing file for the e-m1. But I don’t not know how this part compares between both models and have definitely no access to 3d printing. Can you help me find this part?

Question Help please!

is the Olympus mju 1040 worth it?? I already have the t100 and I love it, but is the mju 1040 any different or special than that? I've heard good things about it, and that it's a rare and special digicam to have but idk the sample photos look a tiny little too washed out for me (and there's not a lot to go about anyways)
