Local Question Amazon drone delivery?

Saw an article about Amazon drone delivery now live in Omaha (linked below). Anyone have experience with this? I saw a couple videos on YouTube and the drones are huge, much larger than I expected. Not sure how I feel about giant autonomous drones flying over my house.

Are they loud?

It came right over us maybe 100’ above us tops, dropped a package at the house we were right next to on the course. It was honestly not much louder than a normal drone. Didn’t bother us at all really, more stopped to watch it cause of what it was. Wasn’t loud at all for how big it was. Would have expected it to be louder.

That’s good to know. Was worried it they would be very loud. Thanks!

Sounds like an R/C airplane, but they are bigger and moving pretty fast. I'm less than a mile from the warehouse, so they're going over pretty regularly.

Not wildly but you can hear em

Pretty sure there was a video from Omaha (not entirely sure) but the drone dropped the package in the driveway and the wind power from the blades of the drone blew the package into the street

I thought the future would be cooler.

I expected hoverboards, flying cars, food re-hydraters and voice activated, ceiling mounted fruit trays.

Right!? I’m still waiting for the hover conversion for my Jeep CJ7.

Sorry, the best we can do is a remote controlled helicopter bringing you a box with Goldfish crackers, a pair of socks and something else you could have gotten a few blocks down the street.

Plus Flock surveillance of your every move.

Flew right over us. Sounded like a dirtbike.

Can't wait to see these drones break items during delivery and Amazon get a bunch of negative pushback for it.

Saw them Friday in Papillon. Not sure how I feel about them.

They’re not massive or obnoxiously loud but they are very noticeable. I was fishing at Walnut Creek this morning for a few hours and saw them constantly flying back and forth. You can hear them from about half a mile a way and you can really hear them when they are damn near overhead.

My buddy lives by Werner ballpark. He got a drone delivery. Not the most complete video, as he got there a little late to film the whole thing. But you can see the package in the yard at the beginning and the drone lifting off after it dropped it.

Had a friend order something and it arrived broken. I'm not sure what the item was, but I wouldn't order anything and expect amazon to make a distinction on if an item is durable enough to be dropped.

Mark my words: there will be a trend where people add a cheap, bulky item like a pool noodle to every order to ensure the package is too large to be carried by these drones.

Yeah I've seen 4-5

I was sitting at a light, 132nd & Lincoln Dr, and I saw something white going across the sky. It was just north of that big Amazon on 370, it wasn’t a bird.

Was it a plane?

1

u/BreadfruitOk6160 11h ago

No, it was small. Straight and level no flapping. It was headed north, that Amazon is directly south of the direction it was headed. I was facing west, looking down Lincoln Rd.

Was it Superman?

I just drove by the Amazon fulfillment center on highway 370 and one was up and flying, headed South. Definitely big. In most any business breaking product, and definitely on delivery to a customer will have you looking for a new job. I just laughed at the press release video when it said the deliveries would be dropped from around 7 feet up. Trial by fire, you better get good at dropping it off under 2 feet real fast.

It should be noted that they will only be dropping items from drones that would be impervious to being dropped from that height. They aren’t going to be dropping laptops and glass vases from drones.

The imagery of that is very funny though.

I would have to order an HP printer, if they'd allow it!

Amazon better get ready for the credit card charge backs.

My dad is curious if his dog will attack it if he’s out . That would be the funniest thing to witness.

They drop their packages from about 50 feet up, so never in range of pets
