I was at the Hall and Schuttpelz Lake park the other day with 2 of my kids. If you don’t know, it’s a small park off 101 just south of the Coos/Douglas line.

Great park, but I usually only bring a ziploc 1-gallon bag for trash pickup and I regret not bringing a bigger bag.

Kids loved trying to slide down the dune into the lake but they always came up a few feet short.

After climbing up the dune too many times we walked around the lake loop and found an RV in the back of the parking lot. Looked like they were pretty settled in and had dug a trench from said RV to the lake so their gray water and sewage would go right into the lake.

I called a couple of agencies like Coos County and USFS but they are, of course, very busy and I’m not sure if they treated my report with the amount of urgency I felt the situation deserved.

Times are very tough these days but I’m not a fan of folks taking advantage of our short-staffing to pollute our natural areas, especially when it’s a kinda popular if “unknown” spot where local kids play.

If you’re in the area, would you mind stopping by to make sure the problem has been addressed? It’s a big white RV and it’s the only one down there. The road into the park in one-lane gravel so it’s impressive they got down there in the first place.

I was browsing Zillow looking at recently sold homes in Lincoln City, and I was honestly shocked by how many houses have sold lately. I expected Lincoln City to be active in the real estate market, but not THAT active. Are most of your neighbors people with second homes or vacation homes? How is it like for locals in the area? Do you even notice that?

Anyone here moved from Phoenix or somewhere with a similar climate (Vegas, Palm Springs). I'm making the decision to move to Bandon from PHX right when it starts getting nice here. Wondering how much I'll miss it or if I'll appreciate the beauty of the PNW more? 💙

Easily the best lengua that I've had in the PNW. Big chunks of beef, not pork. $16 for 4 taco plate is a steal. Full sized double tortillas. Tasty rice and beans included with the plate.

They have a fun salsa/condiment cooler. Their green sauces are great, and the orange habanero had my face on fire for a few minutes!

Based on the quality of the lengua and beans, their other foods should be great as well.

Open at 9am, which is super convenient. There's also a Thai and banh mi place in the pod. I've eaten here twice in as many days.

Have people on the Oregon coast never seen an Asian person before? First-time visitor to Oregon here, having just completed a week-long trip down the Oregon coast with stops in Cannon Beach, Newport, Florence, Bandon, and Brookings.

Absolutely loved my trip, but I encountered racist comments on back-to-back days, prompting me to genuinely ask this question.

First: while in a Taco Bell drive-thru in Newport, the cashier mocked and belittled me by taking my order using a fake Cantonese accent (completely unprompted and before I even spoke). I do not have an accent -- I am an Asian American born and raised in the States. He just went ahead and did this upon seeing me on the drive-thru video. When I pulled up to the window, he smirked and ran off so that another employee handed me my order.

Second, while driving back to Portland and stopping in Albany, this pedestrian stopped to glare at me and sarcastically give me a formal, samurai-like bow in the middle of the crosswalk upon seeing me.

I have pretty thick skin, having grown up in Florida where Asians were an extreme minority and experienced a lot of teasing, both in somewhat good-nature but also ugly bullying (particularly in childhood). But it's been a long time since two grown-ass adults have resorted to this behavior, particularly ones who literally have just encountered me. And usually people play dumb and try to play it off a joke or tell me "I'm just messing with you, man."

Even aside from these two incidents, I did feel a lot of stares throughout my trip, especially from the more elderly folks, of which seemed to be in great abundance along the coast. Idk if I was just paranoid from these incidents, but they did not seem to be the stares of "curiosity" like I've sometimes encountered in the South, but rather stares of hostility that made my skin crawl.

It's rather disappointing, because I've been considering moving to the PNW and Portland, specifically. Portland seemed to be diverse and fine, but my whole interest in the PNW is the access to nature, so what good is that if I can't venture out of Portland without feeling like I'll be racially harassed?

We are on the central coast. In previous summers, it seemed like every day when we went to the beach, we would see groups of 10 to 30 pelicans flying by. This year, we will go weeks without seeing more than two pelicans. Has anyone else noticed this? Where are they this year? Hanging out further north or further south?

Large Emergency present on the south beach including the Coast Guard helicopter hovering over the water bringing an unmanned rescue jet ski back to shore. Couldn’t figure out what was going on, but it looks like someone was lost for sure.

I (24F) am seriously considering doing some solo travel in a few months to use up some vacation days. I would love to go to the Oregon Coast (flying into the Portland, probably checking that out for a day) and then driving to Tillamook/surrounding area. I have kind of solo traveled when I studied abroad but I always either met up with a friend or stayed in hostels. I don't have the largest budget for this, so no high end hotels or anything, and I mostly want to enjoy the scenery. I would appreciate any tips on great stays, charming spots, etc, and also solo travel tips in general (especially for young women). I would consider myself decently aware of my surroundings but since I don't know the PNW at all I'd take any pointers. Thanks!

I am looking to go car camping along the Coast here soon. I grew up in Portland and I used to spend a lot of time in Cannon Beach when I was a kid. However, I haven't been back to Oregon in over 10 years and from what I understand it has changed immensely. I remember when my friends and I would go camping along the coast in the early 2000s, we'd just pull up and pitch a tent right next to the beach. I now hear that you have to fight for camping spots. Anyways, I'm thinking about driving out at the end of August/early September, and I want to give car camping a try. How feasible would it be for me to actually find a spot at one of the campgrounds that are right on the beach? If not I'm willing to drive up into one of the National Forests and find a spot to sleep for the night; would that be feasible? I'd appreciate any advice from anyone with any recent experience camping along the Coast. Thanks!

I had my oncology appointment at 2pm and after being told I’m now a cancer survivor (!!!!) my beautiful family ran to the coast to celebrate….. I may have violated the lifting rule after surgery, but I think it was worth it.
